It's the kind of spooky that I can handle, and I am a massive coward
The Japanese are absent from outer space.
The original Black Marker is at the bottom of the Atlantic which means deep sea Necromorphs exist
1 is fun post-RE4 horror game.
2 is fun action game with horror elements.
3 is absolute garbage but there's a little fun when playing co-op.
>DS1
Really tense game where you never know what's gonna happen next. Replay value in terms of the scare factor drops after the first run (Mostly cause you're probably familiar with the system and can handle the situations)
>DS2
Not as tense as DS1, but has some scenarios where it can do a better job at keeping you on your toes. Specially going back to the Ishimura
One of the last truly fantastic horror game series. Too bad 3 was a mess, if you want to think about the series, think about it like the Alien movies.
1 and 2 are the best and can give you some fright time when watched the first time, but just get funner with each subsequent watch.
That part of 2 was just awesome. I felt like it was the highlight of the game, cheap as it was.
There has to be a "no way fag" edit in here somewhere
How linear is the first game? Can you backtrack? I love backtracking in videogames.
Door opening simulator
pretty accurate
people tend to complain about the jumpscares and I can kinda understand that, but the atmosphere in 1 and 2 is still spot on
I bought Dead Space 1 and 2 on Steam and can't plat for shit with a controller. The aiming is way too wonky for me - acceleration is weird, sensitivity is either too high or too low.
Am I retarded?
Decent mechanics, in a slow third-person sort of way. Attempts to experiment in the sequels to mixed results, and some of that experimentation was arguably under publisher coercion.
Mechanically changes little between entries, aesthetically changes quite a bit. Levels are normally linear and disappointing given the pacing, and there's a distinct lack of memorable supporting characters or enemies.
The spinoffs are competent, both the rail shooter and the iOS game.
For non-videogame media, it's usually straight up B-movie tier, with the books, comic books, the first tie-in movie etc. The second one is fairly unexciting and is a clear mess of budget cuts and compromises. I suspect it's cheaper to commission a scene from a studio than a full movie, Dante's Inferno pulled the same shtick.
Does have a dedicated following, the third game is considered the worst. If I had to make a definite opinion I'd say that the obvious publisher coercion - for example
>copy pasted side dungeons with Borderlands loot chests for a reward
>the whole mineral scavenging
>crafting supplies compared to the environment "refunding" your losses
missed the mark but the core gameplay and aesthetic made it more than playable than me. But then I'm not a detail-oriented guy, big picture and the odd misstep doesn't ruin a game for me.
Overall, it's a series that's worth consuming but not one worth fully investing yourself into. This should not be your favourite all-time IP, but it's worth your time and largely expanded itself with competence.
Its a little linear, and you do backtrack but its done in a brilliant way. You're supposed to be in a large ship, but a ship nonetheless. The game makes you feel as if you're trapped in the ship forcing you to go through certain passages and things that should not be used for passage because of the state its in. The backtracking also feels as if you're literally walking back to earlier areas in a ship, but don't feel boring because your actions, or the damage to the ship, has changed them entirely. The level design in DS1 was fucking brilliant.
No, it's fairly fucked on PC. Gamepad or no.
If turning off V-Sync doesn't change anything then welcome to the club.
You can compromise with the wonky portjob. IIRC I played with a KBM, jacked sensitivity to full and treated aiming like ironsights.
Think RE4. No backtracking between chapters.

Scientology threatens to destroy humanity
Coolest attempt at a post-apocalyptic space armor.
is it okay if I just play the first game, would Sup Forums be mad at me if I dont play the other games?
a better resident evil 4 in a much better settings
the first focuses on survival while the second is more action oriented
the first is a must play, ds2 is good and ds3 can be enjoyable at times, but both can be skipped
godtier games when playing with headphones, audio is really good and contributes massively to the atmosphere. Liked 2 more than 1, stopped playing 3 in chapter 5 or 6, gotta finish it sometime, but I absolutely hate the crafting system
1>2>3
Perfect
I think the mobile game was great, with it's use of spooky reflections and madness moments.
Best action-horror trio
Dead Space - RE4 - The Evil Within
Hope you don't care about story. Or at least having a happy ending.
Dead Space 1 and 2 are good games OP, never played three but you have a consensus here already. Plasma cutter is best weapon.
> Plasma cutter is best weapon.
Excuse me?
Fuck off Boco
1 is great, and depending on how you play can be pretty spooky (like a cutter-only run) or a good introduction to horror (starts out terrifying, but the feeling of getting less spook'd as the game foes on because you learn how to handle stuff is great)
2 is an action game - decent horror themes, expands on the universe a bit, but the spook factor and story aren't great (especially coming from 1)
Skip 3.
>that secondary fire
No
>expecting a happy ending in a horror game
Secondary is great against twitchers.
Resident Evil has happy endings. Mostly.
first two are goat tier games but only spooky for 15 minutes before the spooks happen every 10 seconds and you grow numb to them

Was Isaac jewish?
>necromorph planets destroyed the Earth
Fuck this shit. This is just stupid as it gets. You can't prevent this shit. It was only the matter of time. This is not the ending but a big FUCK YOU in your goddamn face after hours and hours of shitty game.
Let me spare you newfags a few months of lurking with this lesson. Don't reply to tripfags when they have their tripcode on for no reason
Zombie/Alien/Mutant hybrids.
Greatest feeling stomp in all video games.
Series ended before it got bad. (Arguable if Dead Space 3 is bad, but I enjoyed it primarily).
I liked the ending.
The universe was such garbage to live in anyway, Space Scientology was ruining everything for everyone, so the Earth getting devoured by giant moons made up of corpses while the protagonist watches felt oddly fitting.
You get to punch a zombie moon the face, what more do you want?

What the fuck happened to 3? Seriously. The universal ammo, random weapons, cover shooting and even fucking rolling
But what bothered me the most was the fact that they REMOVED like literally 70% of the enemy types the series had. 60% of the normal enemies were the axe wielding dudes, 20% were the standard necros from 1 and 2, 10% were humans and only the remaining 10% were special types, even then tehre were only like 5
It's basically Resident Evil 4 done right. Without all the crazy shit and stupid banter but instead focusing on a creepy atmosphere with much better combat.
>reaches for his head
Save humanity?
But hey, any game that bashes Scientology is still good, downer ending or not.
Fuck off Boco
I liked the story and the aesthetics. Moving from 80's style ship to 80's style ship was really good, but as you said, the gameplay was fucked.
EA executive meddling, what else.
"Kids will surely buy DS3 if we make it as generic as all other AAA games and take away the aspects that drew fans to the series in the first place"!
...
EA realised the series was popular and enforced it's "play it safe" and market it towards "dude bros" attitude.
Visceral Games still holds it enough together to make it enjoyable, but holy shit did Dead Space 3 just feel nothing like the first 2 games.
>Dead Space 2
>must gib dead enemy bodies to get loot
>they start disappearing when they start to pile up
>mfw no ammo or items at the end of fights
>those shadows
Horrifying
DS3 isn't a bad game, it was just disappointing in the wake of 1 and 2.
This. I can handle spooky when I have a shitton of guns.
You don't even need to gib enemies to kill them in DS3. If you hit them enough in the chest they die.
>That feel when I stomped the shit out of every Necromorph I killed in Dead Space 1 for the first half of the game before I realised they don't have a chance of getting back up.
I really hope someone creates a game that gives me that sheer feel of paranoia again.
I like 2's multiplayer mode and wish they did more with it.
Dead Space 1 is the best, 2 is more action but still really good, 3 is skippable
Stop replying to tripfags retards.
I agree 100%
I hate this part so much, playing it with a mouse was pure suffering.
This is recored while playing with a mouse, just use the fixes and it works great.
>playing it with a mouse was pure suffering.
For me, playing it with a mouse was way WAY easier than with controller, I've never lost with mouse
Unless you're talking about without the mouse acceleration fix, in which case, yeah, that would be terrible
>player 2 in DS3 gets hallucinations and other crazy sights while player 1 doesn't
This was pretty cool. Though sometimes I couldn't tell if my friend was just fucking with me sometimes or what. But it made for some pretty fun moments
The only point the ADS become remotely difficult is when shooting one asteroid turns it into five.
No, the port for 1 is really really bad. I got halfway through it then had to format my computer, so I lost my save. The port is so hard to play I just said fuck it and never finished it. I might try again soon though. It's been more than a year.
You're doing God's work user
...
I got some respect for the people behind this game, really. Sadly they all died
playing it with a controller is terrible as well. easily the worst part of the game by far. i raged so hard so many times. maybe i just suck, but fuck me the controls were so bad i wanted to rape my daughter.
>I've played the game on babby mode, basically cheating, with the kb/m and this one shitty insignificant section was pure suffering
Just kill yourself, you cringey sack of shit.
...
DS1 is a masterpiece, but the series got worse with every game. It's a good example of a series where the developers and/or publishers didn't really understand what made the first one so great.
For ds1 you have to disable vsync in game and force it on in gpu drivers panel and then allow to use hardwsre cursor.
Ds2 is fine without tuning.
I think 2 was better than 1. Sure the horror took a backseat but the atmosphere was even more solid.
...
They're pretty cool. They're not exactly that spooky after an hour or two because you have loads of weapons and the stasis tool but the weapons are really cool and the atmosphere is top. They're also great science fiction games, running around a big space ship and fixing stuff and then doing the same inside a space station is always cool. Furthermore it has some cool worldbuilding, the story about the markers and the church were interesting. Played through 3 solo, was okay I guess. I heard it's pretty fun in coop but I don't have a friend that owns it so I don't know how it is.
TL:DR Fun games and probably cheap by now so get them in a sale or something if you don't have them already. F Visceral Games, another company devoured by EA.
Third one has the most lovecraftian shit. So third one is great too.
Turning off Vsync would mess with some scripted events though. More than once the game would just stop working, or the events would not play as intended, trapping me in hell forever.
I actually like 3 better than 2 because at least the setting is different. 1 is still the best though, and Extraction can just frick off.
The phone game was pretty cool for mobile shit.
Third one was cool. Series was never "so scary" anyways. It even has some goody Lovecraft elements that I like. I actually liked it better
.
That has to do with refresh rates.
You probably have a 120 or 144 Hz screen.
The game only works properly with 60 and below.
You can always just limit the FPS to that with some tool.
Dead Space = Alien
Dead Space 2 = Aliens
Dead Space 3 = Alien 3
Here you go.

I loved Alien 3 though, hate that shitpile DS3 to death.
That dead Necromorph isn't actually dead
After the first cheap jump scare I just started shooting all the dead bodies, because fuck that shit
Kys
>not fuck you and fuck your marker
YOU HAD ONE JOB

FUCK YEAH DEATH SCENES
Wonderful third person shooter. Very atmospheric, but not really scary.
