Get out of here

I want to play Shadow of Chernobyl.

Should I download the Starter Pack mod before I get going?
I'm guessing that I shouldn't start by playing vanilla

Or are there other mods I should use additionally/instead?

Vanilla in 2017 is greatly improved from the vanilla of 2007 and is perfectly fine for a first playthrough

>modding a game for the first playthrough
Just kill yourself, scum.

There's always a thread in /vg/ you can check out mate, pretty much everything's covered there.

t. faggot and someone who's never played STALKER before

I tried finding it earlier but control+f "stalker" didn't do the trick

I'm not too smart

vanilla is alright but it's sort of easy though even on master

I liked that mod that bumped up the weapons' damages so you died and killed in a couple of shots. Even the Exoskeleton couldn't save you from more than four rounds, now that's true stalkan.

Play ZRP, mostly just bugfixes so it's a good choice. I think it has some optional cut content but you don't need it.

you COULD get some graphical stuff bu it's not necessary

I'm the guy who thinks you should play it vanilla, as is just because why the fuck not

It'll make modding all the sweeter

You never mod on the first playthrough, go to the general in /vg/ and they'll tell you the same thing.

Be sure to use headphone and turn off your lights in order to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere which is one thing the STALKER games excel at.

search "S.t.a.l.k.e.r"

/sg/ has slowed down since there hasn't been many recent modding updates, but it's been alive this whole time.

This.

don't skip clear sky or else you're going to miss the cheeki breeki experience

Skipped CS and went straight to CoP after Chernobyl.

I kinda regret it, even though it's the weaker entry with a dead modding scene. Hope the general still has that repack.

What if I want to make the graphics prettier? Is there some catch all mod that will make improve what's there without turning the atmosphere up on it's head?

I also heard the shooting is ass so should I get a mod that makes damage higher for myself and enemies?

>I also heard the shooting is ass
only with the starter guns or if you don't play on master difficulty

Who the hell told you all these things? Vanilla STALKER isn't all that bad, it has it's charm and plays perfectly fine. If you really want to make damage higher for you and enemies just turn the difficulty up.

Just be sure to be careful when you're moving through the night, two hits from a Bloodsucker will kill you unless you have some good Бpoня.

Good luck, STALKER.

Purely graphical mods like Absolute Nature are fine, but fiddling with balance or gameplay on a first playthrough is absolute heresy.

Alright then lads

I will ask around in /sg/ a bit and then go play the game

You could get absolute nature/structures for graphics.
In terms of shooting, yeah it's kinda meh early game but the guns do get better. Gunplay really starts to shine later.
It's better to stick it out early on until you get past starter guns, but if you REALLY can't stand it you can find the AMK ballistics mod here

i had a perfect set up awhile back it was Autumn Aurora with Oblivion Lost it was fucking fantastic

I need to try to merge the two again.

just play the game dude

This.

People that say you need to play it vanilla first are fucking stupid.
I love STALKER, but i have never played it vanilla.

ur a cheeki breeki m8

Well good for you, hes your internet medal

Using a bugfix mod is fine, but please tell me you didn't play an overhaul like Autumn aurora your first run...

>tfw played it with a mod that upped weight limit on my first and only playthrough

It was a good game but I dont see myself going back to replay it.

Nah cant remember exactly what it was, something with AMK though.

Even AMK is close to an overhaul, especially Autumn edition.

Mods improve Stalker a lot, but it just doesn't feel the same if you don't see what the normal game has to offer. I ran through with ZRP my first time and had plenty of fun.

>Should I download the Starter Pack mod before I get going?
Preferably yes. It's not 100% requirement, but helps.

Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.

>I love STALKER, but i have never played it vanilla.
tl;dr: You DON'T love STALKER. You love some fat fuck's Hollywood remake of it.

AMK1.4 is the granddaddy of ALL overhaul mods, mate. I love it to bits, but it really is NOT the same as vanilla, nor the way to start the series.

Thanks lad

Turning off the headbob isn't haram, right?

>Turning off the headbob isn't haram, right?
I don't see why people are making such a big fuzz about it. I find the game to be way too floaty and weightless without it.

I do kinda get the complaints about the kinda floaty, non-pixel perfect mouse aiming. That you can easily fix with this console command:

cam_inert 0.1

Also seems to reduce / make headbob more bearable to most.

Just get Zone Reclamation Project and you should be set in terms of bugs. If you absolutely have to make the game look better, use Absolute Structures and Absolute Nature and maybe Original Weapons Renewal if you're autistic about guns like me. I'd recommend playing through with just ZRP the first time around though.

just a side note, that the "Starter pack" includes all those mods you mentioned + the fairly recent 1.0004 official patch, which is a must if you wanna play AMK1.4 mod, ever.

...

For any new Stalker players, these guys are enemies with good loot, kill them on sight

>I'm guessing that I shouldn't start by playing vanilla
Nigga, that's the only way to play it the first time

Also dont be a pussy/dumbass, play on Master or you'll come back here shitposting about why you didnt like it.

Oh yeah, kill them for their loot just to have entire faction after you, wanting to shoot your guts out the moment they see you. On top of that you will have no admission to the Bar because it's controlled by Duty. Enjoy trying to take down their entire base with an MP5 and a handful of nades.

So I re-played all stalker games multiple times. Are there any other games of similar nature?

I don't like Fallout though.

similar in what way?

>Mod my game to shit
>Play master Stalkan
>Get to the good ending
>"Aw yis I did it"
>Forget there is the teleport anomaly jumping with all the Monolith in exo's
>Armed with just my sidearm and zero healing items

The best feeling I ever had after getting through it.

Though fuck those gay as Monolith with their RPGs, there is always one hididng somewhere to rape you up the ass when you least expect it.

E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy

What Call of Chernobyl sub-mods are you guys using?

FUCK DAT get stalker call of Chernobyl basically all stalker games in 1 but you need call of pripyat to work.

moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl

none, as CoC(K) is shit.

Metro 2033 and Last Light

Fuck off. I love CoC but you need to complete the main games (clear sky is optional) with fixes in order to truly like CoC.

>Playing STALKER
>Get to the Center of the Zone
>My armor is shot to shit after the Brain Scorcher and the race to the Center
>Monolith fucking everywhere
>No rad protection
>Refuse to reload from beginning of Brain Scorcher

I just straight up quit. Never beaten the original STALKER.

there's Monolith armors lying everywhere in the center. WTF were you doing?

>not carrying a lightweight secondary suit like the green scientist thing
>not having anti-rad Artifacts
>not keeping multiple saves
come on lad, this was basic 101 stuff even back in 2007!

Ya dude, CoC is just a semi-fresh way for Stalker fags to get more play time. It's totally badass, but only when you've exhausted the main playthroughs

Autumn Aurora or AMK Autumn Edition?

Just get ZRP and enjoy. It's an unofficial patch that fixes a lot of shit without changing the gameplay. You can also tweak some settings using their Modifier to alter knife range, reduce the camera bobbing, and other shit.

I have no defense. I tried looting Monolith armour from guys I killed, but it was a losing strategy. Kept fucking it up.

Loved the faction territory stuff in Clear Sky, but those fucking grenades gave me the shits.

CoP just turned out super easy after SoC and Clear Sky
