>No 2D game has ever topped Symphony of the Night after 20 years
How is this even possible?
>No 2D game has ever topped Symphony of the Night after 20 years
How is this even possible?
this game is so fucking comfy
the music, color palette and the setting make it so soothing
because 2d games are dead
that's probably how
you genius
Bane?
who else double crissaegrim here
In terms of what, being a broken mess?
Aria of Sorrow
You can't top perfection
>Those runs where it drops after a few kills
>Those runs when it doesn't after 50,000
It's not even the best Metroidvania.
This.
Not this.
>my face when deaths gambit blows you the fuck out
>Hollow Knight
>La Mulana
Ok lad. It's past bed time. On you go.
Isn't double crissaegrim supposedly less dps than a single crissaegrim due to just how the game runs?
La Mulana is barely a Metroidvania, it's more an hardcore puzzle game.
sorry guys. i have played them all. nothing tops castlevania symphony of the night.
...
>Hollow Knight
More of that garbage "hand drawn" hd nonsense. Art style is just slightly above Smiley faces in terms of complexity.
>La Mulana
MUCH simpler graphics, and based around MSX games.
Neither of these visually can top Symphony.
>La Mulana is barely a Metroidvania
Holy shit, they're all out tonight Peg!
Super Metroid was better.
The game is not that good. Pretty sure nostalgia is a big part of it.
Still a great game though. Played it for the first time 4 years ago.
youtube.com
>SotN fans can only talk about graphics
this explains everything
Peg? What? I could not make myself go through Lamulana due to the difficulty level
>La-Mulana
>MUCH simpler graphics
While the sprites are simpler, the backgrounds in the remake are far superior. So many fucking layers it's unbelievable.
We're not talking visuals kiddo. We're talking gameplay. Stop trying to troll, stop shitting your pants and go to bed.
I'm trying to finish this blind and it is a fucking struggle
Both the GBA and DS games topped it years ago. Symphony of the Night has great style but shit gameplay. The bosses become absolutely trivial after the first 2, and extending the game by making an upsidedown castle was both annoying and lazy.
>farm crissaegrim
>already easy game becomes a total cakewalk
why include this weapon? stupid devs
SOTN is a piece of shit that ruined Castlevania. RPG progressions is is pure fucking cancer
Better hurry, the sequel is coming.
There's desaturation options to make Harmony look less like a technocolor nightmare.
>when you realize you don't need to stop walking when you use it
>when a second one drops 3 minutes later
>when you realize you can equip both
It only gets worse
>I'm trying to finish this blind and it is a fucking struggle
Don't bother. It's a shitty puzzle game. These game types were NEVER fun, just annoying.
Yes, SOTN was beautiful, but the gameplay was a complete mess and the level design was lazy and uninspired.
Is there any game that has as many superfluous RPG elements and hundreds upon hundreds of completely pointless items?
...
Borderland?
>superfluous RPG elements
There's like 10 elements. Not only that, the color that the enemies change to when they're attacked depends on the element they're hit with.
But your character is so strong that it never really matters.
>DXC > Rondo
>Mirror of Fate > CotM
>Bloodlines that low
wat
Can we all agree Circle is the worse of the post 2D Symphony games?
>Casualvania IV over Kino Of Blood
Pleb.
No. Harmony of Dissonance is much worse.
There's a castlevania-like game based on that anime where people get ghosts that help them fight.
(a castlevania-lite with a jojo-lite story, lol)
>Harmony is worse than Circle
How?
I'm talking about all the dumb shit in SotN like single-use projectile weapons that deal negligible damage, potions that temporarily raise stats that don't matter, and other frivolous things that you literally have no reason to use at all in any context, not just all the completely pointless weapons that you'll never use because they are instantly outmatched by the time you get them.
Jesus wept you casual fucking cockroach.
it's boring, the music is shit, the magic makes the game way too easy, and the movement is way too floaty even for iga standards.
i suppose it's arguable that CotM is worse due to archaic controls, eye straining visuals, and frustrating difficulty, but I wouldn't say that HoD is easily considered better than Circle.
>designed so the game remains playable upside down
>lazy and uninspired
It astounds me how retarded a single person can be.
>Art style is just slightly above Smiley faces in terms of complexity
as an artist i can only laugh at you
It really isn't. Only a handful of screens were designed with this in mind and the only reason it works at all in most cases is because you can fly and jump infinitely.
It's far and away the best. Better than the Sorrow games, better than Ecclesia, better than Symphony.
could you draw a laughing smiley face though?
not sure, but i equip both for the coolness factor.
honestly, its charming in this games, you can make a point about difficulty but 'tidy" RPGs with a small selection of items that you find all in the first playthrough where nothing is OP are boring as fuck
sense of wonder of getting something unknown > muh balance
Did not play Hollow Knight yet, but dude. You are being silly.
youtube.com
Circle has a much more boring castle layout, grinding up the wazoo (both in level, card farming, and if you want potions), a magic system that has no sense of balance, and the story makes no sense
>Story in a castlevania game
Circle really is the only one is a bad enough story that they removed it from canon.
I don't know user. Could you remember the last time your parents showed you any affection?
SotN > AoS > DoS > PoR > CotM > shit > HoD
>there are people on Sup Forums who don't play SotN with a difficulty patch
why
>i am bad at video games and have no taste
thank you for contributing
not sure what you mean, nothing really complicated about laughing vs other expressions
I still believe that the soundtrack plays No. 1 role in making the game memorable.
While the same can be said for any games with great soundtracks I believe it applies more so for Castlevania series. The music is what carried the mood of what you were suppose to be feeling for.
youtube.com
I mean we havent heard shit like this in games for a long time now.
Not him but no, I don't
None of these "HD sprite" games remotely interests me. They look less detailed, less visually impressive than games made 25 years ago.
They have to simplify the art tremendously to save budget, so you have very simple sprites with black outlines and cartoony look. I abhor it. It's an insult to gaming.
Plus more of that no color meme.
It's not that impressive to design your game to be played upside down, when the game mostly consists of flat corridors. Also, Alucard can both fly and jump as high as his magic meter allows him to, so the vertical sections don't require any level design magic either in order for them to work in both directions.
Proved my point. Enjoy your "Castlevania Titans Go"
I would, but it keeps freezing on me whenever I get to the Outer Wall. Why is PS1 emulation so far behind Gamecube, Wii, 3DS, and now even WiiU emulation?
So who here is actually hopeful for Bloodstain?
just play on psp, works fine for me
>No 2D game has ever topped Symphony of the Night after 20 years
La-Mulana says hi you fucking casual.
Hotline Miami dude
nothing complicated about hn's artsyle either
It's gonna be alright, but nothing spectacular. It won't top any of the NDS/GBA games. Which makes the wait a total waste of time.
Lords of shit at the same level as Lament of innocence is a fucking disgrace
I am. The demo is solid and everything they've show looks good except for that one area (you know which one).
My favorite weapon the rune blade is like this. I think I killed dodos 2 hours straight to get it
>La-Mulana
>""""game""""
>Why is PS1 emulation so far behind
It isn't, we have system-level emulation at this point.
>Hotline Miami dude
It's a combination of visual and audio style. Both are extremely gothic in nature, even when the music starts becoming rock/metal like the Tragic Prince.
It's one of the things that I find lacking in a lot of Metroid/SotN clones, they lack the really defined theming that makes them fun worlds to explore. On top of over animation; Sure, SotN has really nice animations, but they're still simple, and don't make the game look like everything is made of liquid.
no we don't
CotM is the best Metroidvania. Portrait of Ruin is not only bad by the series' standards, it's a bad game overall.
it's a deliberate choice, it's not any simpler, and in fact takes longer than building retro looking tilesets.
if you don't like that aesthetic fine, but the fact that you think it's somehow easier than standard pixel shit is laughable and shows you have no fucking clue.
(You)
>not playing the best song
You had one job.
youtu.be
I get that it's a small team with a small budget but I really wish the graphics didn't look so bland. I would have liked if they went with a more pixel style but I wonder how many people on the team actually know how to do pixel art.
WHEENNNNNN
>based on that anime where people get ghosts that help them fight
Wut
Of all the times I played SotN, I never knew about these special attacks that certain swords had. Was cool as shit to find out about on the wiki, I'll have to try out some new weapons when I next replay the game.
>it's a deliberate choice,
I know that. I'm saying it looks bad.
>and in fact takes longer than building retro looking tilesets.
Whic is the ultimate irony. They spend more time and money on these "HD" 2D games, and they still look worse.
dolphin emulates dbz budokai tenkaichi 3 better than fpse emulates megaman legends 2
Graphics only look bad in the webm he posted. Every other area looks fine and the game looks good overall. It was never going to be pixel art and it amazes me that people are still under the impression that it was going to be at some point.
Pixel art take a ton of resources and is just not worth it most of the time.
I like both and dont mind either. If the game is fun, and the art is good then it's fine.
They had to do this because the GBA screen was shit before the backlit version
>Odallus under "bad"
Triggered. It does a better job at looking like a legit NES game than Shovel Knight despite the latter going on and on about how true to the NES it's supposed to be.
>We're talking gameplay
La-Mulana's gameplay is incredibly clunky
That is some grade A unity garbage right there.
>Circle of the Moon
>Worse than Harmony of Dissonance, Simon's Quest, the 3DS game or Order of Ecclesia
get the fuck outta here
Oh I never believed it was going to be pixel art. I just will always miss it. As I also said I wonder who really knows how to do pixel art nowadays. Even over at Nintendo when they made Super Mario Maker the older team had to teach the younger guys how to do pixel art since they never needed to learn.
