How come there's no synergy? in your party. I'm talking about the interactions and dialogue in your party.
In the beginning Ann, Ryuuji, Yusuke, and Morgana had bantz and mingled and then suddenly poof. That all disappears and the game onwards they don't acknowledge anyone existing except the protagonist. You get zero interaction in the group even when a new member joins.
I like them individually with the exception of Makoto, Ryuji and Haru. I don't like them as a group. You get some autistic interactions like futaba and yusuke but they're still really rare.

Makoto ruined everything

Makoto ruined the group

Because when it was just the initial 4 and Morgana, they had to work together more to come up with plans and figure out what was going on since none of them really had any resources available to them, giving them more of a reason to meet in person. Once Makoto joins everyone else pretty much takes a backseat and lets her do everything because she's the mature, capable, student council president archetype. Then once Futaba joins she does 90% of the detective work on her own while everyone else just fucks off and leaves everything to her.
Nolan Lopez
This, unfortunately. As soon as she got settled in the group, she started taking up fucking everybodies' talking time. She might be as well be talking to herself, since the group got reduced to just stating the obvious only when it's their time to speak.
Samuel Murphy
Because they know that they're out there, swatting lies in the making. Can't move fast without breaking user. I'm still mad Morgana was dethroned from his smug "you might be the leader but I know everything" schtick down to nothing
Brandon Howard
To be honest, the larger a group gets, the less synergy they'll have. This is also true IRL.>47145▶ >How come there's no synergy? in your party.

>disliking the 3 best characters

fuck off loser
Luke Torres
I find this synergy returns once you get back to the present day. It only really starts to feel lacking during Okumura's Palace, as far as I'm concerned, but considering the point of the story that's placed, you could make the argument that was on purpose. Not sure how good of a job you could do making that point, but you certainly could.
Joshua Phillips
>This makoto made the group talking about serious things all the time, she don't have any sense of humor and she's is also the one who talk the most....from there you have the second half of the game resume as "Makoto explain everything to everyone and tell them to stay careful...dismiss".
John Cook
It seems to happen in quite a few JRPGs. In Lost Odyssey, once your party grows beyond pic related, pretty much all of their fun banter goes out the window which was very disappointing to me
Blake Gray
I think P1,P3, and P4 did a fine job of juggling all the characters but anyone else wish they would go back to the smaller party like in persona innocence and eternal punishment?
I would be happy if the game was just them even with Ryuji's WE WUZ THIEVES AND SHIEET maybe include the neet girl too.
There's 8 replies and 9 unique posters though
Connor Roberts
Futaba is literally needed to move the plot along, plus her mother's research does tie into the overall plot.
Makoto is only relevant because of her connection to Sae. But you could still remove her if they rewrote Akechi a little to interact with the party more often and serve as the bridge between them and Sae.
Gavin Gutierrez

Game should have had Akira, Morgana, Ryuji, Ann, and Yusuke as the only party members, and Makoto should have remained an important character who constantly followed the party around trying to prove they were the Phantoms.
Ryder Smith
Couldn't Goro fill in for Makoto in the following aspect and change Sae's emotional turmoil to tie to adachi#2?
Thomas Sanders
I like how dysfunctional the group is. I always felt like in P4 they got along too well and in P3 they never really liked each other period. This is a good balance No. Game should've had only MC knowing the identies of the phantom thieves. The constant cell phone usage would've made more sense too.
Andrew Hall
>Game should've had only MC knowing the identies of the phantom thieves.
Wait, like the MC would know Ryuji was a thief and that Ann was a thief, but Ryuji wouldn't know Ann was a thief and vice versa?
Kevin Torres
That's what I was saying.
Considering what Goro was planning anyway, it would make sense if he was the connection between the PT and Sae earlier anyway.
Isaiah Watson
As dumb as Ryuji and Ann are, I don't think either of them would be stupid enough not to recognize each other even in their thief costumes. Ann especially since she stands out.
Jace Collins
The only RPG parties with consistently good bantz from start to finish is FFX's, and Berseria's.
FFX's is carried by the Auron and Tidus dynamic, and Berseria is full of amoral assholes who basically are in a nonstop pissing contest to see who can be the best bantz
Eli Murphy
Makoto and Futaba were basically killjoys that ruined any of the tension and discussion that the high schoolers had planning out targets and how to accomplish anything.
They do absolutely nothing like how Madarame's entire ordeal went down. All the faked modeling, or the lockpicking in the real world, and all that stuff.
In the opening casino section, I thought it was going to be a natural progression to there. They keep talking about inspiring others and popularity, and I thought it was going to lead to an actual casino in the real world where they were acting out in public for once, phasing in and out of the metaverse to deal with real guards' shadows. Even all the posters seemed like they'd be Yusuke's grafitti/propaganda, which I thought was going to be a major thing given his artistic skills and him painting grafitti in the intro.
Instead nothing about Ann, Ryuji, or Yusuke ever ends up mattering again, and it feels extra stupid that they made Morgana feeling "useless" a plot point when he does more than those three do by that point.
Asher Barnes
It should have been a 5 man party, Yusuke was still a decent addition. Plus, don't you want a band of thieves to be as small as possible?
Brayden Foster
Makoto and Futaba ruin the game. They should just cut those two out, and add Haru and Goro earlier.
Logan Martin
Makoto and Futaba is just too fucking smart for the game's good. It's a shame

I hadn't thought of that. Now I desperately want more scenes with Yusuke and Futaba sperging out at one another.

Makoto doesn't even do much before getting phased out by Futaba.

Thoughts?
Mason Lopez
You're full of shit
One of the main conflicts is between Ryuji and Morgana because Ryuji keeps picking on him and he takes it seriously, which results in Haru joining the group
Isaac Martin

Isn't it kinda unfair how the protagonist is always involved in every single mission in every game? I mean, yeah, they're the strongest and most skilled of their respective groups by leagues and bounds, but still. In the end, the protagonist is doing 80% of the work.
Parker Perry
>implying I give a flying fuck about something as petty as that when I just want more enjoyment out of my game
Nice assumption, Makotofaggot. Not even talking about waifushit.
Gabriel Lewis
Well you're their leader after all, the first playthrough is okay but NG+ is basically you doing everything.
Liam White
What? They all go to Palaces together
Lucas Murphy
The only people that like Haru or Makoto are waifushitters that'll defend them to the death because they're cute and muh romance. I can forgive Haru since she gets a equal share of screentime as the others. Makoto on the other hand? She's Naoto being the expository device while taking up all the lines in the game after she joins your brigade.
Christian Peterson
Bottle only the protagonist takes part in every single battle.
Jonathan Turner
Inccluding the other confidants and shit too, who would you have wanted the playable cast to be? Don't just think with your dick here.
Carson Scott
Well of course, you want gameplay right? They wouldn't be able to get through dungeons without Joker's versatility and strength.
Zachary Jenkins
But user that's exactly why I want Iwai
Levi Nelson
Joker, Morgana, Ryuji, Ann, Futaba, and Hifumi, maybe Yusuke. I think Hifumi would have filed Makoto's spot without being so overshadowing like Makoto was. The rest are mandatory because they have the best synergy. Yusuke is on the fence because the group starts getting too big at that point, but I can't see anyone else being less important than him. Maybe Ann, but she's needed because you need a fourth member early on.
Henry Thomas
Requesting art of Mishima and Akechi shooting up the school
Ayden Hughes
Get Smoked kid with Billy the Kid as his Persona.
Jacob Cook
Here's the party for the expansion.
Sae, Sojiro, Yoshida, Iwai, Chihiya.
Aiden Gonzalez
Because they clearly didnt know what the fuck they were doing when writing this game. The group makeup started getting shaky when you realized yusuke was just there to make out if place comments and finally lost its shit when they added another straightman to take ann's place in the form of mokoto.
John Sanchez
Replace with Makoto with Sadayo, also do more with Goro to cover the stuff with Sae. I think having a teacher as part of the group could be interesting. Replace Haru with Shiho as the character who joins near the end, it'd force Ann to be more relevant too. Not sure what her persona could be though.
Brandon Reyes
Because they fucked up with how they gave you party members. You had everyone but the Dog and Ken in 3 from the get go and in 4 you at least had Rise by July. In 5 Futaba doesn't do shit until late August and then you get railroaded basically right into October with Haru showing up for kind of no reason.
The whole group should have been formed by the end of summer and Goro should have been around for 1 earlier dungeon.
Hunter Barnes
>All the faked modeling That was so much fun
Zachary Ramirez
>Shiho This would have been cool having an arc dedicated to her and her recovery outside of Ann's confidant plot thread.
To get back at faggots like the teach.
Isaiah Nguyen
>yusuke was just there to make out if place comments
He's always one of the first people to catch onto things and point out stuff when it's serious time though. He's autismo outside of the PT stuff, but whenever it's time for business he's usually one of the main contributors to the conversation.
Parker Scott
>Iwai party member >Persona is Al Capone >Uses a tommy gun as his firearm
>Shinya party member >Persona is a robotic Billy the Kid >Six shooters as firearm
>Hifumi >Oda Nobunaga Persona >Flintlock Rifle as firearm
A lot of the side characters could have easily been converted into playable characters honestly.
Aaron Diaz
>Tfw at the start of the game Ryuji was a cool determined bro with a bit of a temper but as time goes on all he does is yell about how they're the Phantom Thieves in public places He feels like a different character in his link events
Austin Perry
Makoto starts talking over everyone and shuts down any silliness that arises. I always dread when those kind of characters join a JRPG party.
Jonathan Cox
She'd make things way too serious though by nature of what her character actually is, which people are complaining about with Makoto already. An s.link could work but not as a playable character.
A lot of people keep saying it but I do think Hifumi could've been an alright party member.
Cooper Harris
It's especially grating here because it's not like the group wasn't focused on their goal or goofing off before Makoto joined. They put in legit work with Madarame.
Carson Parker
>wanting another party member who's plot thread involves getting raped or sexually abused.
Seriously why are all the girl party members this except futaba?
Josiah Watson
Because all Persona girls are sexy, and if they were transplanted into most male party member plots, getting abused by a teacher (Ryuji) or used by an old artist (Yusuke) it'd feel weird if said villian didnt get some ass while they were at it
James Foster
The writers certainly made him do stupid shit when they needed an idiot. His call during Makoto's interrogation is the perfect example. The guy never calls you for two months. Suddenly messaging is no longer fine and he just needs to call you about meeting at the "Phantom Thief Hideout". He also never calls you after that.
William Gray
This. She's a worthless piece of trash that just leeches off her sister after all.
Easton Morris
ryuji, ann, and yusuke, maybe morgana have synergy. Makoto is too busy being stuck up and lusting after joker to make friends woth those loosers. futabas a neet, and haru is such a non element its a wonder why shes even there at all.
Julian Morales
>That whole fucking part with morgana going missing At that point i fucking hated the writers and the whole group for dragging that shit out
Liam Sanchez
There's a reason Makoto, Futaba and Haru were tacked on in the OP of the game. They're glorified side characters whose purpose was to up the game's waifu count. The real party are the once dancing on the motorway.
Tyler Allen
hifumi would have been a better choice than haru, but I think her chunni would clash too much with yusukes autism. theyre too alike.
Jeremiah Baker
nah, thats because they wouldnt pay the animators enough. I think it wascontracted to the studio that made yuri on ice
John Gray
Makoto and Futaba literally take over every interaction the group has
Owen Morris
Yeah, I thought it was going to be like "Oh man, they're going to be better at this whole thing by this point in the story, and just pop back-and-forth"
As is, you go to some really outrageous areas, and once you've been to out space, the casino and ship are a letdown for settings.
But if they stepped it up where they involve the real world, where there's actual witnesses and multiple real people/shadows that could be against them, that'd seriously raise the stakes. Make it feel like the Phantom Thieves made it big, and can actually on their own power take on organizations and actually start a social reform without a total deus ex machina like they end up with.
David Price
>except futaba Did you not do Sojiro's social link?
Owen Hughes
Because after a certain time some chick started to make the group chats just info dumps. Futaba was alright even though she was the brains she wouldn't always be serious and fucked around with Yusuke. Makoto and Haru were just yawn. Obviously Akechi was faking anyways so he doesn't matter.
If the game wanted to have a serious cast they should have not made the plot based around the fan site bullshit
Owen Young
>non-issues Makoto is a literal SJW fuck off nu-Sup Forums
Andrew Collins
You know, thinking on it, what was the point of Makoto? Every single important thing she did for the group could just as easily have been covered by them saying "Futaba hacked the police network"
Isaiah James
shes the driving force of the plot and the canon waifu.
Noah Walker
Iwai
Andrew Robinson
>canon waifu
Everything about her was half-assed. They stole P3 FeMC's design and Naoto's Personacycle bro to make another Mitsuru clueless about things outside of studying.
Fuck she's not even the only (or first) "pretend to be my boyfriend" arc in the game, so her confidant story is unoriginal as well.
Ayden Thompson
Sae. At least for Shidou.
Lincoln Torres
>Because after a certain time some chick started to make the group chats just info dumps >implying before that point game wasn't just a long tutorial of morgana spouting obvious shit and then explaining the same shit once again for ann and yusuke
Dominic Ward
That's just the obligatory tutorial
Makoto comes in the middle and still seriously info dumps
Jack Gonzalez
>Picks fights with bigger entity than they're used to and keeps escalating threats >Recruits level headed academic to strategically plan their activities >She actively helps and goes out of way to help everyone >MAKOTO RUINED ERRYTHING YOU GUYS
You guys can't deal with escalation.
If Ryuji planned for the group they'd have all been in prison with Kamoshida and the rest of their targets.
Hunter Wright
>How come there's no synergy? in your party. >I'm talking about the interactions and dialogue in your party
There is. Just roll around in mementos and you'll get some dialogue randomly.
Adrian Myers
>go to hawaii >get a date >nothing else happens
Michael Russell
>have to push brakes
Christian Miller
I was actually a little impressed at how much dialogue they added for that. Not only is there a pretty good chunk of conversation, but sometimes a new reply will come for an old line you've already heard.
Unless you purposefully grind the shit out of the reaper, there's plenty of unique VA'd dialogue for Mentos.
Eli Jackson
This. She killed the group dynamic. When she became the "brains," everyone else got dumber so she could show them up.
Colton Wood
They made all the events short on purpose so they can expand them in P5 Crimson.
Dominic Moore
all group events were nothing happens >fireworks >rain, cancelled >yusuke yukata nadeko nadeshiko rek
>hawaii >guis it feels the same as home
>beach >girls walk off >spotted by faggots >yusuke lobsters
>disneyland >haru dad dies
Leo Peterson
Someone was telling me that the game got rewritten in the last two years which dramatically changed Makoto's role in the story.
Which would explain why she's written like a bad fanfiction OC donut steel and the plot goes retarded once she's introduced.
Daniel Bennett
Too bad I have to waste 5 seconds for it to finish because doing anything in Mementos besides driving around will interrupt it.
Anthony Brown
More than anything else, I'm just pissed how shafted Yusuke gets.
I honestly wanted him to stay living with me, that would've been cool. As is, he's the only guy who's stuck at another school entirely.
Evan Edwards
Nah since they could have introduced Akechi as a party member much earlier then as he "keeps tabs" on them and then eventually futaba is there to be the real brains
Camden Powell
Yusuke is a great character. Or at least funny, since he has good dynamics with Ann and Futaba, plus he gets along quite well with Ryuuji as one of the guys. He fits in with most of the group, unlike Haru who's just there, and Makoto who is zero banter.
Luis Thompson
I was too, quite disappointed that he lived only 1 day in the attic
Liam Thomas
I don't remember any of these issues with Persona 4, I remember the bantz continued amongst everyone for the majority of the game with only Naoto really suffering in regards to development. 5 felt total opposite, was it the texting thing that ruined them?
Maybe i'm remembering wrong though, might just be the shitload of side games for 4 that's clouding my memory.
Ayden Hill
>hurr Makoto Just admit you don't like her because she's the popular pick and move on with your lives.
Angel Bell
nah, people may hate p4 but there was shitloads of fucking around
