HOORY SHIT J.C, YOU MUST GO IN, AND GO IN, AND GO IN, LIKE THE US MARSHALS AND THEIR 3 DAUGHTERS.
Are they still trying to release that expansion? Because I need it.
anyone thought the shotgun in this game was a mixed bag of 50/50 chance to hit or just weird to handle?
Everyone shits on the riotgun, but I actually like it. You just can't use it like Duke's shotgun and snipe with it.
Alt fire takes out meatshield enemies pretty well.
I like the design of it, but the actual gun is a mixed bag.
While the alt.fire can be good for taking out the gorilla things, the range for the thing is pretty pathetic for a 90s FPS shotgun, there's no manual reloading and no way to tell how many shells you have left.
I would've thought you'd state the more obvious fact that he also voices Tracer Tong
The reload isn't THAT precarious. Aside from how short the reload sequence is, I generally don't use it on anything that absolutely must die in the next shot, and one burst is enough to kill basic ninjas at maximum effective range. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it reloads at anything divisible by 4, does it not?
True, the reload doesn't take long but I would have still liked the option to do it by myself.
Fair enough. It just barely predates the generation of shooters that had a standard focus on combat reloading.
The series died as soon as they decided to have someone else voice Lo Wang in SW 2013 because apparently a comical lighthearted accent with some cheesy kung-fu stereotypes is "racism"
Oh that and the fact that instead of a good Doom/Duke-style FPS with stellar level design they made it into a cheap Serious Sam ripoff with a sword
It's not even made by the same people. But yeah, I hate the arena-like focus of 2013. It's not the worst reboot I've ever seen though.
>implying SW2013 had anything to do with the original
Might as well have called it Ninja Slayer but noooooo, gotta use that name because muh brand recognition.
>devs aren't the same
>they said they are aiming for more politically correct lo wang
>lmao dick jokes everywhere instead
>"shadow warrior 2" is targeted to autistic people that want multiplayer and weapon loot
i'm still mad
Using "Shadow Warrior" purely for "brand recognition" is pretty silly, since plenty of 90's shooter fans probably never even heard of it. It's not nearly as well known as Doom or Duke.
I would hope it was at least partially a labor of love, because the actual plot and monsters are not that firmly tied to the originals.
Well Shadow Warrior 1 had some very minor references to the original like a few weapons and those levels straight out of the original game, but that's about it
SW2 completely goes away with that and is instead Borderlands + Painkiller but without the variety
Yeah SW2 is an even bigger joke, randomly generated shitty levels with Destiny-style bullet-sponge enemies with health bars. Man, health bars and bullet sponge enemies have got to be one of the worst things you can put into an FPS. It's so unsatisfying.
The references to 1 were pretty weak, frankly. Straight ripping areas from the game in secret areas was kind of neat if not overdone, but throwing the anime girl sprites in there wassuper lazy.
As a comparison, Doom 2016 did a much better job with references to the originals (and even 3 sometimes)
Sounds like I made the right decision in not taking the plunge.
Yeah, health bars are the fucking worst. A big red flag that they don't have enough game and are worried people will blast through it too fast.
1) There are no hp sponges in SW2
2) It's a first person katana ninja simulator, not a FPS
THIS IS NOT A CHARADE
totally missed the point with SW2 if they were going for a 90s style game, 90s games had cool levels in odd real world locations, not this random gen crap from the 1700s everywhere.
Pretty sure SW2 was doing its own thing.
HOLY COW! LOOKA LIKE DOOK NOOKEM
Yeah, Doom 2016 did a better job in basically every regard.
But both games had a bad habit of including upgrades that made the player too OP compared to his base form.
Can you please stop defending a shitty "reboot series" that killed Lo Wang?
Thanks
>killed
>implying it was going anywhere after the first game
It was this or nothing. No real sense in acting like it ended a legacy.
Not defending just saying SW2 wasn't't really riding the 'retro fps' wagon.
ehehehehaha
YOU LOOK LIKE A STUPID
One thing I loved about SW was the special one liners he'd say when switching to a specific weapon.
>be ploud Mr. Woo
>I love the shuriken
Was there a reason to have both fists AND a sword? It's not like it ever took the sword away from you, right?
Punching a training dummy would restore health
I always, always forget about this. It doesn't come half as naturally to me as, say, drinking from any water fountain in Duke 3D.
WHAT THE FUCK?!!!
I NEVER KNEW ABOUT THIS AND PLAYED THIS GAME FOR ALMOST A FUCKING CENTURY.
You know a game's good when you play the hell out of it and there's still stuff you haven't discovered yet
I still don't think that really justifies two different melee weapons though. Maybe if punching anything restored health, but wasn't as effective as slicing.
Speaking of, did anyone really use the caltrops?
It just fits with the ninja/kung-fu aesthetic, and I'm sure it didn't take a lot of amount of time and effort
Nah they're shut. Actually I keep stepping on my own caltrops.
Caltrops seems like one of those things designed to be way more useful in multiplayer. Like Duke's tripmines.
Never, I usually ended up losing health by walking into them myself anyway
I still keep finding new secrets in Doom, Duke3D and SW after all these years of playing them. Hidden secrets in levels are a sacred thing and looking up where they are really ruins ther purpose. Replaying the games and stumbling upon a secret you never knew about is such a damn good feeling.
But finding out hidden mechanics or shit like that is just fucking bliss. I'm going to re-install the game and try it out.
Who is this hot lady.
True. But they could have justified it in gameplay without much effort.
Lo Wang's sister from the cancelled expansion Deadly Kiss
The only thing I look up is secret levels. I don't want to miss out on a whole level.
When is that shit coming out? I've already played everything there is to play in Classic.
Never
Probably never because they're focusing on the new Shadow Warrior games now.
I like how Duke 3D had different exits for secret levels and even a voice-over. Wish more games had that.
Fucking bullshit. But it was pretty predictable that they wouldn't release something like that entire years after Classic and all of the other expansions were out.
Maybe Shadow Warrior 3 won't be hot garbage, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with turning 2 into Borderlands. And they were so close with 1, too.
>And they were so close with 1, too.
They really weren't.
>they
It's not the same team as SW2013. I don't think Devolver said "you can't work on Classic because we have a new game!"
Gameplay base was good, even if it relied a little bit too much on the sword and certain weapons were a little lacking.
All they needed were tweaks and adding actual level design (you know, the most important part of Classic), and we'd have a GOTYAY FPS.
I don't even care at this point.
Shadow Warrior 2013 was almost fun for me but the guns were garbage and the game was way too long for what little variety there was.
Shadow Warrior 2 had slightly better guns but they were ruined by RPG stats bullshit, and Lo Wang was insufferable.
I've given up hope in this reboot series.
The gunplay felt like shit
Honestly the only way they could make a good game is if they made a Doom 4 clone with a Shadow Warrior theme
>actual level design
Fat chance.
It's all about that procedural generation now grandpa, get with the times ;^)
I wish this fucking shit would go away from FPS games. At this point I'll even take a shitty handcrafted level than randomly generated ones
sw1 had shitty handcrafted levels
What I mostly loved about build engine games is the more "open" ended approaches you could do in a level in some ways. In Hollywood Holocaust you can enter through the main entrance or shoot the breakable wall on the other side and take the alternative route inside. Then you could grab the jetpack and skip to the exit point or go through the whole arcade and the roof section.
Some people might hate the keycard fetching thing but I loved the metroidvania-esque exploring and unlocking in those levels. There was interactivity too and levels were so amazingly designed they all had their own theme. Going to Babe Land and shooting the targets to unlock the keycard to the next room is one of the many examples of it.
With SW reboot it didn't feel the same to me because you're still taken in a linear path and just beating waves of enemies like Serious Sam. The game was still somewhat enjoyable but without the amazing map design it didn't stick with me. Shadow Warrior 2 completely throws it out the window because of randomly generated maps with set pieces. I was pretty hyped for the game but it feels really soullless that way.
I really miss build engine games. I think I might just try to beat Powerslave EX since it's the only one I haven't beaten yet.
>Started SW reboot (yes i played the original) two weeks ago
>bunch of hours in "oh wow this is pretty goo-"
>shipyard map appears
Holy fuck what were they thinking?
*blocks your path*
*teleports behind you*
Yeah i wish it teleported behind me instead of being a 3 hours long snoozefest
Amazing level design isn't something that was only possible on the Build engine.
Take the older Jedi Knight games for example, both Dark Forces 1 and 2 have levels which still buttfuck most FPS games of today.
I just realized this was the point where I dropped the game. Haven't picked it up since and that was about a year ago
It really pisses me off that you're never able to kill him.
The remake was nowhere near the original. The only thing I remember is "Press F to heal".
Fuckin hell. I really really need to get back into Jedi Knight. I love that game's level design, as well as the expansion.
When I was younger I used to hang out at the local shipyard in my town so I really loved those levels. I can see why people dislike them, the earlier levels are way more visually pleasing.
Shadow Warrior 2 is what happens when you take the worst elements of FPS and MMO games and put them into one hideous, unsatisfying whole. Bullet-sponge enemies, weak guns, boring loot, randomly generated levels with no flow or sense of progression, and kill/fetch quests that would make Borderlands proud.
Fuck this awful game.
I'm genuinely surprised they managed to make a game THIS shitty. Even free DLC don't correct anything.
