I would put Max Payne in Smash as a guest a character, with his reason for being there was it being apart of his Valkyr overdose hallucinations from the first Max Payne game.

As much as I want Wonder Red in I doubt it'll happen. This would be a Switch game after all, so they'd probably try to jam BotW Link in there somewhere despite the fact that he's already basically in there twice.

I think they would just do what they did with Olimar and Alph, single slot and play the exact same but different characters models. Both seem about equal in terms of mascot coverage to me.

All the MPH Hunters are all really simplistic in design in order accommodate the DS's low res screen. It'd be pretty bad if the supposed big bad of the first ever HD Metroid Prime game still looked like a blocky cheap action figure.

Has smash ever had canon dead characters before? To be fair though they are apparently getting more story in the 2nd dlc and they already have amiibos, so I'd say they're more likely than any other BOTW characters (apart from a link update).

I'd like to point out its very rare for Smash to include characters thats were created in the same gen/system.

Sakurai does 3 things when making a roster
1. Look at what IPs are popular
2. Look at what IPs are relevant at the time they create the actual list before real development begins
3. Honoring the past systems, Rosalina/Wii Fit Trainer/Miis originating on Wii, Lucario/Lucas/ZSS originating on GBA, Sheik originating on N64, etc. or retro reps in general, aka Duck Hunt Dog/G&W.

Wonder Red has a shot. Its a slim one given that it probably won't get a sequel, but its there. And just like with Shulk, Sakurai is a fan of W101 and bros with Kamiya.

Except pyra cannot be directly harmed and is always next to Rex as she works more as a stand than a teammate.
