You know what? Let's forget about how shitty the graphics are, or the character designs, or the game itself clearly being a kickstarter scam. Know what really gets me? How the fuck is it in 2017 this style of combat is acceptable? It plays like fucking sotn for fuck sakes! The enemies barely have any attacks and die in like one hit. This was understandable when they worked with limited sprites, but there's no excuse with 3d modeling now.

It looks like SotN but the levels are scaled to 2x size while the movement speed and enemy counts are kept the same or less. The game looks slow and barren as a result.

This has nothing to do with whether it's 2D or 3D graphics, you're just talking out your ass and trying to sound smart.

What, the game with actual well done action combat, and not you spamming an attack with a single animation against enemies that don't fight back?

It does actually, back then they had barely any budget and were working with sprites, which are much harder to animate, so with those games easily having 100 enemies or more, it made sense they'd only have one attack or two and barely any animations. 3d modeling makes that way easier, yet the main character has no combos or animation variations on attacks, and the enemies are the same as they always were, fodder with maybe 1 or 2 attacks that just slowly and mindlessly walk around the halls. Its fucking garbage.

How this bloodstained game should play

It's praised due to the great spritework, music, and atmosphere/aesthetic. The gameplay sucked, mainly because the game was piss easy. Alucard moved stupidly fast and fluidly and had more attacks, while the enemies were all dumb, slow things that had maybe 2 attacks at most. In order to even have challenge you had to do no item runs, otherwise the game was a fucking joke.

I don't see the problem, personally.

Like, sure, it doesn't look like the BEST game ever made, but this really feels like some hard core TORtanic syndrome, where people are trying REALLY REALLY HARD to make sure this is the next Mighty Number 9.

Except, while MN9 was an actually terrible game, this is "just" a good game that probably won't live up to its overinflated expectations.

The problem is the game could be so much more, and has already been surpassed by indie games that didn't need kickstarters.

Metroidvania has always been quantity over quality. The fun of combat didn't come from the mechanics or expertly designed enemies/levels, it came from a large variety of spells/weapons/items you could use. It could be legit fun when combined with ridiculous stats like in the level 1 hard modes of the DS games.

People spent two decades buying SotN clones. Games with less weapons, skills and worse sprites than SotN at that. IGA knows people will keep buying it, so he's making yet another one.

Also remember, IGA didn't make the gameplay in SotN. This is why his games never quite get it right.

Why wouldn't there be a castle in hell? I mean the game is based off all the demons from those old grimoires, where the demons have titles like Baron and Duke, so maybe the castle belongs to some Duke or demon prince and the bad guy (Gebel) just took it.

Why did it start off as a traditional leather whip then upgrade to chain? The Castlevania designers just didn't care about story and canon back on the NES/SNES/Genesis. It was IGA who focused on story. Since he came off of working on Visual Novels.

its literally SOTN speed, i dont think speeding it up further will improve much, that being said ive seen many attack moves that should make the combat feel faster, like flying kicks

There would need to be two versions because Classicvania and Metroidvania are completely different beasts appealing to different people. I've tried for years to get into Classicvania and I just can't since I dislike the stiff movement and trial and error, but have loved every Metroidvania because I like the exploration and item changing aspects.

Metroid doesn't really have that because even Prime at its core is the exact same as the other games, it's just in a different perspective.

It's just the animations that makes it look slow. Once they improve it on that front then it wouldn't look so jarring

I have never once thought that SotN should be harder. The game is amazing as it is and the fun came from exploring the castle, finding new shit around every corner and breaking the game every way possible.

Fuck you, it's a really good pinball game. A lot of people don't seem to realize that pinball is a really easy genre to fuck up. Now, if you're not a fan of pinball then this isn't going to change your mind but this is one of the better pinball games out there. Even if you only slightly like pinball, it's a fun alternate version of the original Metroid Prime that's worth playing through at least once.
