Why did VR die?

It was never alive.

It's a niche as fuck product with a retard expensive barrier to entry. Not to mention there has yet to be a single game that highlights why you actually need VR.

/thread

Anyone remember freaking out with that tumbling down shit when facebook bought oculus?

Feels real retarded since vr was never going to "Save" gayming

>yet to be a single game that highlights why you actually need VR

Being able to look around using your neck instead of a mouse feels unbelievably good.

Not that I'd expect a faggot like you to understand.

And yet you did not mention a game that highlights that and shows people THAT is why they need to spend the money on it.
Which was his point.

Oh I wasn't aware you retards also needed to be spoonfed.

Alright then; Resident Evil 7.

Paying hundreds of dollars for tech demos you have to pay for isn't that appealing to most people.

Not with Skyrim, Doom and Fallout it aint

It was a novel experience. It's definitely one of the better examples but I wouldn't recommend it to someone solely for RE7. Might be because I didn't care for the game in general.

>It was a novel experience

lmao

You'd be the type of nigger that would have said that colour TV's were a fucking "novel" experience.

fixed position screens are just better

Why did OP not try VR?

He was too poor.

Because it was a gimmick everyone has thought would be cool but is expensive and isn't being supported by games people really want at this time.

In the future it might do better but honestly I hope not, to me it's like 3D TVs a stupid gimmick.

Because the hardware requirements are 2x 1080s

It didn't die, it was just never going to be the insane explosion of tech like people hyped it up to be. The hardware and software for VR still aren't in a place where it's going to have any sort of market hold for the average consumer. What's important is that the tech has a foundation and people are experimenting with it, but a lot still needs to happen. The big first step is removing the cable, once that happens VR will be able to venture into a better place. Also general hardware improvements as well as a price drop is going to be a big important thing for that field, which is not going to happen for another couple of years.

It's a gimmick, and a very, very expensive gimmick at that.

Do you even know what the word means?

Maybe if you're a fixed position person, sure.

Yes. Do you?

What did facebook expected to do with vr? "now you can see people in 3d!"

It's a cool experience, but not worth the amount of cash you gotta pay. I'm lucky I was able to try it cause a friend bought one.

Expensive
Hard to develop for
No killer apps
Inconvenient to wear and set up
And the porn is hard to find and there isn't enough of it

Invest and earn cash.

Did you buy a VR headset, then realize it's shit? Is that why you're hostile to people that criticize it, user? Can't get them wasted dollarydoos back.

The hype came from the promise of a $250 price tag

Then explain how it was not novel. I even said it was one of the better examples of a VR game so far but I don't think it justifies the price of the whole set up.

It's not dead, but the price isn't going down fast enough for the masses to get into it.

I own a vive, games come out weekly for it, but they're typically more of the same shit over and over. If more people could afford VR, more VR games would be coming out that are actually unique or fun.

Also it takes a beast of a PC to run well. My computer's pretty good (GTX 980, i7 4790k) and some of the better looking games are pretty rough to run at over 45FPS (And 90FPS is what you want for a vive. 45 is where it goes if you can't run at 90.)

It was too expensive for the content provided. Most VR games were basic as fuck.

>fallout AND skyrim vr
>dying

It has to be alive before it can die.

Sorry user, I'm not a poorfag, nor a philistine like you are.

They were diversifying. They weren't necessarily buying it to use in conjugation with Facebook.

It's expensive and Facebook is to blame.

Everyone was hyped for a $300 device. Then Facebook showed up and charged $600 + $200 for the hands + fucking tip.

Then valve went "well I guess we can sell for that much too" and released the vive for $800 (an objectively superior product I might add). Vive is outselling the Oculus 2:1 thank fucking God but Facebook still fucked the market.

There are some really great games like Climbey, Cosmic Trip, etc. But all of the "top selling" steam games are selling like shit and it's really upsetting, as a VR owner.

I hope next gen is cheaper and easier to set up. VR games are fucking gold and I can't wait to play more.

"Novel" is far too subdued for something like this user. And it implies that it's not literally the future, but rather a short footnote.

Because it's not VR. Headset technology has literally been around for decades. They need full body motion for it to be true virtual reality.

It has never been born. It has been coming since fucking 90's, but it has so far been too irritating to use for longer periods of time and too expensive. Current VR hardware is dirt cheap when compared to what that shit cost in 90's. So far price is still in level where mainstream users won't bother with it, but in year or two it will be and hardware will be better as well as there has been actually large scale testing and that will reveal any issues current hardware has.

>What did facebook expected to do with vr?

They own one of leading companies involved in it.

>No killer apps

There is large enough user base for those killer apps to be found.

kek

if that was the end of the thread why would you make another reply moran

>full body motion

Full body FEEDBACK you mean.

Just being able to move means nothing.

You joke but this is the biggest issue. It's expensive and people who can't afford it just shitpost. Once it's cheap enough for the masses Sup Forumss opinion will shift because frankly it's fucking great. Sucks it's selling so badly.

it didnt. its just poor peasants whining as usual

A few reasons.

>accessibility issues
>too expensive
>no games to justify the purchase

The technology hasn't come far enough to overcome issues a lot of people have with it, so right away a huge chunk of the potential consumer base is written off as not being able to use it. From the pool of people who can use it without barfing you then need the people who are willing to shell out for it despite it having almost no actual worthwhile content.

Ultimately it's still way too experimental and we're getting ahead of ourselves. We're calling VR the next step before reaching the limits of current technology, which is why there are so few actual, worthwhile games out there that are objectively better with VR. It will improve and become more attractive when there is a greater need for it. For now it's a novelty aimed at a niche audience.

it's really expensive
i'd love to have one of those VR headsets if only to play old games that have 3D functionality added, it'd be really cool
it's way too expensive for me right now, though

>be in mexico
>Oculus is $18,500 pesos
>$1,000 USD
>Htc Vive is $36,500 pesos
>$1,970 USD
CHINGA SU MADRE

Full body motion doesn't sound appealing at all. For many reasons"
>Not safe
Who wants to flail around and jump in their room tripping over and smashing things?
>Too much effort
Game are for relaxation not jumping around
>Innaccurate
If my character jumps through a window or is riding a horse I don't want to be a mime copying that action irl.
>slow as fuck
Who wants to go through a series of motions when one button press does the same?

That describes the RE7 experience I had. I am glad you had a mind blowing one. I didn't. VR is not the future. It is a short footnote. Even if the price drops 20-40% in the next however many years. It still won't be the future. It's a unique experience but there will always be a certain appeal to just sitting in front of a tv playing games whether you or I like that fact.

Resident Evil 7 is garbage.

Linear corridor movie for the Nu-Males who can't handle zombies anymore.

>no games
>expensive
>no one wants to play real games like that
it's just a gimmick and fun for the first time because you never used this. But gets shit after a few hours.

VR and the motion controls for it are very good but people are cynical after years of console companies selling toys that promise to "put you in the game" but only have you dancing in front of your tv.

I got the vive so I know it's good myself. I just like to lol at poorfags who has no educated opinion about VR.

It could have had amazing potential of arcades at least would have invested more in the motion capture aspect to bring a true virtual reality experience to consumers who can't afford it.

Unfortunately arcades now don't give a flying fuck about innovation.
>hehe I'll just spend a couple bucks on another Pac-Man table.
Classic arcades are a fucking cancer.
Arcades used to be innovative investment opportunities.

only gay ass companies like sony involved

sony only hires insectoids to head their propaganda

...

ITT: poorfags buying time with their flat games

>Who wants to flail around and jump in their room tripping over and smashing things?
>Game are for relaxation not jumping around
>Who wants to go through a series of motions when one button press does the same?

Preach it, man. Fuck that thin privilege.

people realized they can't play loli fuck simulators in their country and that was the end of the VR craze

>No games

After playing Elite with VR and a HOTAS setup, I can simply not go back to a regular screen. That shit is intense.

>Why did VR die?

Difficult to advertise
Too expensive
No killer app.

difference between color and black and white is not comparable to using a M+KB/controller and a mask strapped to your face
color is a straight upgrade over black and white, wearing a mask over your fat face and being forced to look around just to see shit is not objectively superior to moving a mouse to do the same action

You need to cram in more buzzwords and memes, I can't get enraged properly otherwise.

That's the thing. In Asia, shit like this is common. I see this everywhere in Thailand, China, and Taiwan but I come back to west and arcade owners are all cowardly faggots afraid to step out of the realm of nostalgiafaggotry.

I should have been born in glorious Nippon. \(╯-╰)/

>aiming with those fuckawful VR controllers

it ain't dead

>Can't aim a gun

Oh dear.

>muh 9001DPI 1337 GAMERZ mouse

because it only works for sit-down sims. any game requiring 3D motion becomes automatically shit

aiming a gun IRL is easy as piss
aiming with these fuck awful controllers
zero fucking feedback compared to real life you fucking shitter
>he doesn't exclusively use 12$ logitechs

These, also it's physiologically incompatible with our bodies. Humans are social creatures and having a headset strapped to your face isn't a good thing since everyone's eyes are different and it removes you from the real world.

No organic demand for it pure shilling and hype

>aiming a gun IRL is easy as piss
>aiming with these fuck awful controllers
>zero fucking feedback compared to real life you fucking shitter

What does feedback have to do with aiming? Recoil happens after you fire and that doesn't help you.

Recoil happens after you fire, but your gun doesn't shake around like you're having a seizure before then.

Lol you're such a dumbass.

Too fucking expensive

Because there is a market for it. Arcades are dead in America.

>no one
Except literally everyone who owns a HMD is waiting for an actual engaging fun game.
Although Bethesda are going full jew with fallout 4 VR, I'm still gonna buy it to have a complete VR experience.
Also the Half-Life VR mod should be nearing completion by now, that shit is gonna be tight.

Sounds like a tracking issue.

This

Also no games

VR will always be a overpriced gimmick and nothing more.

It helps you feel like you are actually firing a fucking gun, unlike these awful ass controllers, I can't even aim with the fucking things because every time I try to steady it starts seizing out like an epileptic, making it worse.
>t. never fired a gun

>1 million psvr sold
>dead

lol

I can see it having potential, but it needs to be aces sable at around $200 for it to really take off.

lets post some webm's of games that poorfags like you will never enjoy

It's still a 0.5kg helmet, which is in no way suitable for prolonged use. I can totally see VR breaking into mainstream once it's as unobtrusive as normal glasses.

>Humans are social creatures and having a headset strapped to your face isn't a good thing since everyone's eyes are different and it removes you from the real world.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahah
That was really a good one.
You sounded so serious while posting such retarded bullshit like complaining on Sup Forums that something removes you 'from the real world'.

apparently make good games, which is more than valve is willing to do

Because you're siting in pessimistic smartass central when shitting on everything and getting joy from things failing is a norm.
Therefore retards like you pretend things are failing left and right.
Hint: 'shit didn't get 50millions large install base in a matter of weeks != failing'

...

yeah ok

Which is an inherent and inevitable issue.

>bullshit fake vr headsets where the only games you have are you locked in a room with physics objects.

Wake me up when VR becomes something along the lines of Log Horizon. No one gives a shit about standing in a room and making a mess to watch "funny" or "wacky" things happen, except for retards.

buying an oculus is literally cheaper than buying a vive you fucking retarded faggot, and has been for some time

stop making shit up to justify your fanboyism

>no one could actually like $SOMEWHAT_EXPENSIVE_THING_I_HATE, they must be all in denial and rationalizing their WRONG purchase
lel

...

>Why did VR die?
Nice false narrative. Typical echo chamber shit from Sup Forums as per usual

no porn, no buy.

...

not if you set up your shit correctly

...
