Think about this the next time you steal from poor indie developers.

Nope, fuck them.

Piracy is just an extreme version of flexible pricing.

...

>Game is pirated
>WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAH WAH WWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
also nice number they just pulled out of their ass, they seriously need to get over it if they think that AAA PC games don't also don't see such a ratio. that's why they always shoehorn in some multiplayer mode in, can't play it unless you pay for it.

An indie game by a small studio/team selling 300k is like a AAA game selling 10 million+. Wtf are they complaining about?

>muh unsubstantiated claims and fallacious similes

Indie games cost far less to make so they are effected less with piracy since they get to profit making much faster

AAA games NEED millions of sales just to break even.

So tell me which is more effected by piracy again.

That's just what happens.

Smart thing to do:
Make an indieshit game
Have it either be a 5 dollar purchase, which gives soundtrack and goodies and shit
Include a donations thing on the page for extra shekels
Then make it that if your game is shared on 2 social media, the person can get a free copy
Have another game you put real work into be paid or nothin
Easily triple your popularity, get sales, donations, and actually be somewhat popular because people are too cheap to pay and would rather advertise your shit for you

>I MADE MONEY BUT I DIDNT MAKE ENOUGH I NEED MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE

The state of Indie games in 2017

More like "Smart way to get people to resell your keys for money and fuck your profit"

>inb4 Sup Forums doesn't give a shit about whether game creators get paid enough to live or not The Thread

Why would someone pay for free keys

Boohoohoo. Maybe get a job that pays instead of begging for ME to change. You probably tip too

Exactly, the corporate suits who run AAA publishing all have mandatory multiplayer now because piratefaggots always brag about how they only pay for their braindead rooty tooty shooty games with MP (enjoy your overpriced youtube-bait flavor of the month unoptimized hacker-filled early access garbageware, this is the future you chose by not supporting good games and only supporting CAWADOOTY you shitheels.) Also why so many RPG devs tried to push ""MMO""RPG theme parks so that they could prevent piracy AND leech monthly subscriptions, although that went and bit them on the ass pretty hard since every post-WoW mmo has had an inglorious collapse into f2p models and cost their publishers money due to flopping.

made me chuckle

>It's a "piracy is profit loss" episode
Just because you didn't gain doesn't mean you lost, fag.

I do try to buy indie games instead of pirate though, at least if they're good

The premise was that you have to buy a game before you can do the social media for the second copy, right?

Or is that just the first copy too? Because if it's the latter than why would ANYONE buy your game? Sup Forums would just call you a beggear for having donations anyway.

just wait till that shithead learns about steam refunds

Because they would eb cheaper than the market price? Thats the whole idea of g2play and kinguin nowadays.

I'm not an indie developer. I just like video games and would people to keep making video games.

And no, I don't tip. I'm European, you stupid fuck.

I only pirate games that are extremely jewish with regards to DLC, like the sims 3

>It's a "t-there's literally nothing wrong with stealing guys!" episode

nah

Most indie games arent even worth the bandwidth pirating they're so fucking bad lmao

Piracy is like an extended demo. And hell I pay if the game's good, and encourage everyone to do the same.

Vote with your wallet and all that.

id hate to use the "but i wouldnt have bought it anyway argument" but it really does apply to indie games.

i am over and done with spending 20 bucks on games that ill only play for a couple days. sure at first youre like holy shit this is such a great find i gotta get all my friends on it! but after you buy a couple indie games and play em thru you see that most are going to be extremely shallow and dev support is few and far between.

so at this point in my experience, no, id rather not pay for indie titles. just face it. unless you jew some streamer into hyping up your game, everyone will continue to see your games value for what it is - a shallow endeavor that isnt actually worth real world money.

i know this hurts many hopeful young devs feelings but you shouldnt get paid for making a bare minimum product.

Just enslave indie developers then since they are most likely only good for free labor anyway. In fact, I already have one tied up in my cellar.

I'm criticizing Sup Forums for not caring, you idiot.

Why would i not want people to get paid for their games if I want more games?

>And hell I pay if the game's good
no you don't

Nobody's saying to pay for a shitty game.

But if you genuinely liked it what's the difference between a movie ticket, a shitty EA cinematic experience or a 10 dollar indie game?

Why is the red man pushing people? Is he invisible?

i got a mate thats an indie dev and he already secured all his funding and knows he wont lose any money, he hasnt even released the game yet

wanna know how?

he used kcikstarter! he got his 100k+ to make his indie game n when hes done hes gonna go and sell it AGAIN

no

i wish there was something to steal LOL

they are either shitty ass 2d pixel shit, or unoptimized, impossible to run on not brand new PC 3d garbage

heh, don't mind me, just pirating this wine :)

Why don't you just buy good indie games then? Shovel Knight, FTL, etc,... are all well worth their price

Maybe if they actually made good games. Japan makes better indie games and a lot of them are even literally free.

Yeah I do. The game has to actually BE good but when it is I do. I make about one purchase a month through this system.

Red guy is a spirit of depression, manifesting when people are suicidal. That kid isn't gonna get a Gameboy.

Some user explained it once, supposedly it's some jap spirit of suicide. You notice how the eye colors change? Supposedly the green eyed one refers to suicide due to financial hardship, but I don't remember the other ones.

Kys

Don't be mad, we're just pirates!

I just pirate clothes, food, alcohol, and money from people who don't need it as much as i do ;)

While the statement in the pic is true indie games likewise live or die according to the buzz surrounding them much more as a result of word of mouth.

It's understandable that developers might look at how many downloads have been pirated of their hard work for free and feel like they need to do SOMETHING but reason should trump feeling.
The fact of the matter is that any attempt to stop piracy inevitably inconveniences legitimate customers more than pirates and many will even pirate over buying just to "protest" extreme protection measures or merely just avoid those inconvenient measures considering the pirated version superior.

Bullshit, you play good games and you're looking for reasons to justify not paying for it. Don't pretend you only pay for good games, you just pay to feel better about pirating.

Except I told you that I buy games if they're good. And when it comes to what I do I think we're going to go with my expertise over yours, don't you?

>late night homeless bike man always does this at the BevMo I work at
>Comes in near closing, snatches some stuff, then rides off on his bike acting like the dozen or so cameras didn't see him
>store has a strict "hands off, do nothing if it isn't visible" policy
I swear I should just slash his tires next time. Cops aren't going to do anything about it, and even if they did they'd just be giving him room and food on taxpayers' money.

Piracy will FOREVER exist. Deal with it you fucking imbeciles and get a real job.

>Your industry constantly releases buggy pieces of shit, that are foreverunpatched.jpg
>Reviewers lie about state of game
>Pay youtubers to pretend it's fun
>Unbalanced pricing, $1=£1
>Surprise DLC - gibs me more money for game content that should have been in the base game!
>2 hour game - $30
>"Why won't they just give me money for this amazing game I've worked so hard on?"
Fix your industry, and I'll stop pirating your games.

>makes all his games on his own with a tiny budget
>knows all his games are pirated far far more than they are sold
>does not give one shit, doesn't even care if his fans sell porn of his characters
More indie devs need to be like ZUN

>make something for a market that can acquire it for free
>cry when they do
Its not like they hadn't heard of piracy before they decided to try to become professional game devs, it was a risk they chose to take.

Can't really use ZUN as an example though.

As long as he has beer he's content.

I am 100% sure you don't pay for every game you think is good or you imagine retarded reasons to justify you not buying it.

That's pathetic as fuck, you can't even pirate right.

>thenextweb.com/insider/2016/03/22/indie-developer-sells-300000-copies-game-finds-1-million-pirated-copies/
300k sold of a shitty clicker is way too high. WTF buyfags?

Not them but desu supporting games goes beyond just buying them.
These days most groups have their pay and bonuses tied to certain milestones of sales within a certain period after release and bullshit like pre-orders so if you wait for a sale or something you may be no better off than a pirate as far as financially supporting the people who actually made the game. In some cases, your money is even going to the higher ups that are responsible for firing and shutting down the groups that actually made the games for not meeting enough first week sales goals and other such bullshit.

You can't be 100% sure of anything about me, because I'm pretty sure you are operating on nothing but blind assumption.

But I reiterate: I do buy every single game I think is good. Every. Last. One.

Just out of curiosity though, what is it that makes you so hellbent in your point of view? You're not projecting, are you?

They say ZUN is playing a drinking game with god where he will take a shot everytime someone cums to a touhou

Don't worry, they're working to close the internet to take care of all those nasty pirates and dissenting ideas.

>piracy hurts indies more
Great, that means I should pirate more often.

>Total PC pirated copies: 1.6 millions
>43% Brazil
>18% Russia
>16% China

>it's YOUR fault Sup Forums!!!

Fuck you OP, blame huehues, Russians and chinchongs, those shitholes do 77% of the piracy

No. Pirated games != lost sales.

People who pirate aren't likely to spend money at all, meaning that even if they didn't pirate the game they wouldn't have bought it anyway.

How come only literally who or shit indie devs whine about piracy or steam refunds? You never hear how the shovel knight devs bitch about piracy.

>Still lying

I'd ask you to post the last games you pirated and didn't pay for but I'm sure you'll just pick the shittiest games you played this year to prove your point.

Unlike you when I pirate I don't pretend that I'm going to pay for it later if it's good.

They should release their game on consoles to avoid piracy.

But then who will release 100 new retroinspired rougelite platformers every day?

Turns out if you make a good game more people are likely to buy it. Who knew.

Why would you be so malicious towards some random homeless guy?

>Poorfags from low-income countries pirate more.

What a surprise!

It's not our fault, bro. Piracy is genetic.

I would if I had any money to spend on vidya, but I don't.

Actually blame the publishers. Maybe don't price your game at the equivalent of $400 and more people would buy it.

He's a good role model, as a dev he creates the games he wants to make while keeping his fans happy, and as a public figure he's got a fun personality that draws people's attention. ZUN himself is almost as popular as his own games.

But making games for consoles is HAAARD, you have to go through quality control instead of paying a Steam fee, and make an actual engine instead of just Gamemaker!

Too bad. Make a better game and maybe people will buy it.

It's not like the 1,000,000 pirates were planning on buying the game anyway if it was not piratable.

Hurts shitty ones more, helps the rare good one more.

Last game I bought was Vanquish because despite being a little on the short side, I found it a ton of fun and it managed to gain the fabled "good" label.

I am currently evaluating the quality of Prey, but thus far it's not looking terribly good for it.

And I've never asked for nor shown interest in what you pirate or why. That's something you firmly reinstate because you're insecure and you don't know any better.

Which I wouldn't mind so much if you weren't so desperate to project the same inadequacies on me.

It's a surprise for idiots like OP

The only software I've ever pirated was Photoshop, which I feel is justified due to the pricetag being downright outragous, Pirating games that were a passion project for their creators is absolutely inexcusable. If you've ever pirated a game, you are human garbage.

Make a game worth the pricetag you slap on and I'll buy it. I'm not dropping $25 on something like Superhot which can easily be finished in like two hours and doesn't even include a level editor even though it'd really benefit from it.

>Piracy is genetic.
No, you just internalized piracy because the white man indoctrinated you.
#KILLWHITEY

>it's okay to pirate X, but not Y
>m-muh pricetag
Uh-huh.

>pirates are killing the industry!!!!
>Ubisoft developer openly tells people to pirate The Last Night

>passion project
You really think shit like the next Asscreed game is a passion project? Bitch please, that shit is made on a factory line.

So YOU gets to decide what is and what isn't too expensive?

It's no longer expensive, you can pay a monthly fee of $13 for it.
Pirating programs that were a passion project for their creators is absolutely inexcusable. You are human garbage.

Are we still talking about piracy? I thought it was youtube, er i mean twitch that stole all their money now.

I probably have bought more vidya than you and I pirate a lot of games. Fuck off mate.

this, if devs were actually making money they wouldn't have to be chasing profits to make ends meat with "safe" features like open world or survival or loot treadmill lottery shit.

lol shit, you just made me realize I haven't pirated a game for like 6 years.
Fuck, I'm getting old.

...

Well kinda his own fault, since there's no english version to be bought.

I'm telling Apple. Ur fucked kiddo

>That's something you firmly reinstate because you're insecure and you don't know any better.
To reinstate something do you not need to say it at least once first?

Also it's funny that you start projecting once someone calls you out on being pathetic. And of course you pretend you're going to pay for the two FOTM.

As for any game if your product is good people will buy but if it's not, well...
