Dosen't this prove that no one gives a fuck about them?

>interactive video games

Phew I guess the PS4 is safe

>Interactive video games
If it isn't interactive, it wouldn't be a game.

They already won. They're getting royalties.

Who cares?
Get new voice actors. At least all the games won't sound the same anymore.
Why do these pricks think that they deserve royalties over the artists/engineers that spend years of their life making a game?

I don't know what this is.

Entitled Gamers.

gone home
uncharted
dear esther

Can we just give up on the voice acting meme altogether? Or at least for games that are more than 10 hours long?

All those games are interactive.

i hope they never give them a penny and never hire them again. you can get better voice actors off the street.

unironically this

wish there was a Sup Forumsocaroo voice acting thread right about now actually

You press a button to move and the character moves. There. Shit games are still games, no matter how much they fail as games, unfortunately.

what is this youre referring to?

>tfw Ashly Burch is getting cucked out of her favorite job of being Chloe in Life is Strange

Muy Bein.

Unions are to blame. Only thing unions care about are union dues.
Seriously look up the UAW and their plan to sue Volkswagen because the VW workers refuse to join the union.

Considering the companies agreed to all the better working conditions but not the residuals and they're still on strike, they are.
Only people who deserve residuals are devs, not replaceable acting school rejects whose work is nothing compared to the programmers.

SONY ALWAYS WINS BAYBEEEE

Do you think computer generated voices will ever replace human voice actors?

youtube.com/watch?v=b27iLcoPHTg
>when the most famous of them pretty much btfos the VA strike

variety.com/2017/film/news/sag-aftra-production-companies-reach-deal-1202486614/

I thought it was over?

i read that as onion. i didn't see the word as onion i just though union was an alternate spelling of onion until i remembered it was union

>games will use speech synthesizers and render voice actors obsolete
That would be amusing to see.

Came here to post this

Depends on how much the VAs are getting paid. While their job is pretty easy in comparison to a lot of jobs, I hear it doesn't pay much unless they're a major known va.

To be fair, the way AAA games handle voice acting is pretty disgusting.

Not the money bit, every company's like that. If it's just about royalties, then they would be just money grubbing fucks. The issue is with game companies not telling the VAs what character they're playing, or even what game they're voicing it for.

youtube.com/watch?v=YaOSPUtjidY

Without unions, low skilled workers have little to no protection against their employers.

They need protecting from the unions themselves just as often as the employers.

absolutely have heard better voice actors on vocarro Sup Forums threads all the time. these "union" faggots are a joke and if any company falls for their extortion they deserve to go bankrupt.

Not quite as often.

Source: I'm an employee without a union who is being fucked in the ass by the company I work for.

> Work one day a week, get paid thousands of dollars.

> WAAAH I NEED MOOOREEE.

Fuck off. Bob from accounting can do just as good a job and might even do it for free on his lunch break.

The actors for thinking that they're that important and that the VA industry in the west is anywhere near the level it is in Japan.

This

So it wasn't just me.

>Muh leaks
This shit pisses me off so much because the only reason they give a damn about leaks is because the entirety of their sales depends on lies, limiting information, and creating false hype. They don't wanna surprise people, they don't want people knowing what they're really doing.

Blame the Simpsons voice acting cunts for starting this shit

Which is why the hell we should be asking why we want institutional protection for low-skill workers in fields like teaching ad voice acting.

Artistic unions exist to protect bad artists just like teacher's unions exist to protect bad teachers.

>Work 15 hours a day doing manual labor
>Come back home to hear some frilly designers and voice actors are on strike because their job is SO hard and $80 an hour is simply not enough

You don't understand user!
Talking into a microphone in a comfortable room for maybe 4 hours a day is so straining and difficult on the vocal cords!

This wouldn't be an issue if VA's didn't constantly leak shit.

100% this. I'm sick of the same hand fulls of complacent actors in literally everything.

People who are bad at their job should be protected, since they're human too and deserve to survive.

Undertale

>Why do these pricks think that they deserve royalties over the artists/engineers that spend years of their life making a game?
They have the word actor in their occupation title, which inflates their egos to immense proportions.

The socks that you forgot to wash.

>wanting royalties when you do the least work

>Did not give a single fuck about voice-acting in videogames when it was becoming the hot new thing in the early 90s.
>Fast forward 25 years and still do not give a fuck about voice-acting in videogames.

The few times I can say voice-acting has enhanced my enjoyment of a game have been those "so bad it's hilarious" cases like House of the Dead 2 and Resident Evil.

Unless it's because of a disability, no they should not have protection. The free market should decide how much a bad employee is worth, and if they are a bad employee then they should consider improving themselves. Unions encourage the creation of bad employees, especially when it comes to the education system.

The strikes been going on for at least a year now, and gaming companies have given zero fucks about it, they just went and hired new actors.

I truly believe VAs do get the short end of the stick when it comes to doing multiple takes of shit like battle cries and yelling for hours on end every day, but I also think that doesn't describe the bulk of any particular VA's workload. In short, VAs have a point in striking, but might be a little entitled at the same time.

Literally who cares?

I rarely recognize the VAs in gaming, and it'd probably break immersion if I did.

Their demands list doesn't seem unreasonable, why are they striking exactly?

When you're working with voice, you can't reasonably be expected to stress your voice and maintain the same quality for 8 hour sessions like a normal job. Most stage voices are faked/exaggerated causing extra stress.

The greedy fucks that contribute the least to the game but expect maximum payout aka: the voice actors.

This is a strike against certain companies. Not all of them

Activision Publishing, Inc.
Blindlight, LLC
Corps of Discovery Films
WB Games, Inc.
Disney Character Voices, Inc.
Electronic Arts Productions, Inc.
Formosa Interactive, LLC
VoiceWorks Productions, Inc.
Insomniac Games, Inc.
Interactive Associates, Inc.
Take 2 Interactive Software

sagaftra.org/interactive

The rest of gaming companies have already agreed.

>muh free market
>let them starve in the streets!

I guess I shouldn't expect any better of 4chin posters

Dont worry, when you get unionise, you will be fucked by it just the same.

>Low skilled workers
There are laws in place to protect them. Do you know why unions sprang into existence? Because there used to be no laws in place to protect them. That is no longer the case, and has not been the case for how many decades now? At this point, unions serve two purposes. To scam money from people who don't actually want to be in them, and to make it impossible to fire people who are legitimately awful at their jobs.

I won't be able to unionize since I live in murika

It actually is, but with 80currency/hour they are like crying babies that didn't get a lollipop while in an amusement park

People who are bad at their job should either get better or seek employment in another field.

>contribute the least amount to game possible
>demand royalties for your work

Voices are barely needed in videogames. You can make entire games without them just fine

Nolan North is based. I did like in the vid he talks about the award as a piece of treasure in Nathan Drake's voice. That was neat.

The laws don't say they have to give you decent health care or pay you more than 7 bux an hour.

>These faggot voice actors have me defending EA
What is this world coming to. Fuck these people.

Or maybe a career in voice acting isn't a realistic goal for a lot of them? Life can be disappointing.

Who else /playsliterallyeverygamewiththesoundmutedsothismeansabsolutelynothingtome/ here?

other companies didn't agree. They are just going after those companies because they are the biggest.

There are people retarded enough that they'd be bad at any job

Not really talking about the vas specifically, they make enough to not starve

Minimum wage is a law. As for giving you health care, why should an employer be forced to do that? I used to work for a small business doing IT. Should I have expected that guy to pay my healthcare? Would it have been great? Yeah it would have. Should he be forced? No.

>There are people retarded enough that they'd be bad at any job
Those people belong away from the general populous as they're probably a danger to themselves and others.

>Minimum wage is a law.
That's why I said more than 7 bux an hour. You can't live on 7 bux an hour.

>As for giving you health care, why should an employer be forced to do that?

Because they're the same people who lobby against the government giving it to you so they should pay up for us poorfags who can't afford it

games are better without voice acting

Honestly this. I also can´t help but laugh at those threads arguing if subs or dubs are better in games. If the game has the text I usually read faster than the voice dialog anyway. Like fuck I´m going to wait for them to finish talking when I already know what was said because I can read, I usually skip just through the voice. It´s really not needed

>general populous

ITT: upset devs that won't stand up for themselves an let pubs walk all over them.

>That's why I said more than 7 bux an hour. You can't live on 7 bux an hour.

I lived off of minimum wage for years.
It's called roommates.

As someone with no friends and crippling social anxiety, roommates aren't exactly an option.

>You can't live on 7 dollars an hour
I learned to do it at one point. I don't see why you can't. Retards need to learn that when minimum wage rises, so does everything else to reflect that. Which leaves you in the same position.
Games literally do not need voice actors. You are worthless.

First off: California minimum wage is $10.50

The VAs are getting a good 200-300 an hour for their work with or without SAG, but a union contract means there would not be perpetual rights to the voices and would need to be renegotiated, much like with music right now.

>a day's wage
HOLY FUCK THEY TOTALLY GET ROYALTIES NOW
oh wait, it fucking doesn't mean th at, go fuck off you cancerous little cuck from neogaf

>the only game that had good voice acting was FFXII
>the cast off FFXII weren't even professional voice actors
>they were just random stage actors pulled from the streets and they still BTFO every voice actor in the industry
I hope these fuckers lose their jobs and never get work voicing another video game character ever again.

>I learned to do it at one point. I don't see why you can't. Retards need to learn that when minimum wage rises, so does everything else to reflect that. Which leaves you in the same position.
I didn't advocate for that though; the other guy was saying unions didn't need to exist due to laws. I advocated for unions to allow low skill workers to negotiate higher wages.

Actually it is the american unions that fuck with their members the most.

American unions are corrupt because America is a sick, disgusting cesspool of a society where everyone is trying to fuck everyone else in the ass.

Source: I'm Murikan

Worthless and untalented people do not need protecting.
Becoming a VA in burgerland isn't something that takes a shitload of investment, cashwise or time, it's not something you put your neck out to become, like in japan and probably other countries.
Also they're mostly talentless hacks, due to having no training, and vidya doesn't actually need them at all.

Dudebros demand vas so vas they shall have

Captcha: union north

GOOGLE IS WATCHING(TM)

>Unions are necessary to negotiate higher wages
Negotiation is negotiation. If a company/employer doesn't want to pay you more, then that sucks. Accept it or find something better.

You don't get a free ride. If you are a shitty teacher you shouldn't be a teacher. It is a free country which means if you suck at your job you can either change careers or become a better employee. Employers should not be under compulsion to employ bad workers, and the state should definitely not be under compulsion to let incompetent and even maliciously subversive people educate our children.

Japan has talent agencies that take the pretty ones and make them sing as well.

They've been like that long before morals had degraded to that point though, they've always been shady as fuck and had dealings with various criminal organizations.

>Murika
>Ever having morals

Come on, user. Remember the Injuns

Disease is an amoral actor.

Games need win and failure conditions. Uncharted makes the cut. But Gone Home and Dear Esther literally need to make a new name for whatever the fuck they are because it's objectively not a video game.

Low skill workers have no leverage to bargain

You probably think they should just gas anyone who's a bad worker, right, /pol?

>Insomniac Games, Inc.
>Insomniac publicly speaks out against Trump's travel ban
>Insomniac won't support unions
>EA, Activision and Disney are also SJWs
>They won't support unions

Really get the noggin' joggin'!

>Retards need to learn that when minimum wage rises, so does everything else to reflect that.
Then why have prices of everything gone up while minimum wage has been stagnant for like 30+ years, and the middle class is disappearing because of it.

Checkmate retard, go jerk off to trickle down theory.

Andrew Jackson wasn't though.

>Have no leverage to bargain
And? If they bring nothing to the table, why should they be paid more?
>stayed stagnant
According to dol.gov Minimum wage was 4.25 in 1991 in the US. In 2009 it was 7.25.

A corporation is a corporation.

>And? If they bring nothing to the table, why should they be paid more?
Because they're human :^)
