Started playing after getting the last two updates. Did they make it harder to find gubbins or is it just me?

Gubbins?
Things
Then why the fuck didnt you just say things instead of gubbins
Because Subnautica threads had started using the word "gubbins" lately to refer to scraps.
Er, well, not that I'm aware of.
What are you having trouble finding in particular?
hey do I have to go fix the aurora? that shit is scaring me, I keep hearing about radiation leaking and after seeing the ship detonate I got scared.
also fuck every zone except the safe shallows. I hate that shit.
Just give it a few more ingame days that whole Aurora situation pretty much sorts itself out.
If you want to stop the radiation, you'll have to fix the aurora. You'll want to just for the sake of the better suit upgrades. You'll find lots of shit to scan as well so you can build a better base.
I had issues finding the Seaglide, but that got sorted out. I also had problems looking for resource nodes since they retextured all the outcrops.
I like the new look though. Even if finding shit was momentarily fucked.
you can, going in and fixing it removes the radiation after a few days passes, plus there're some good schematics and supplies inside
No but you can explore it once you get the Radiation Suit
Beware of Leviathans
also
>Playing and exploring
>Find island
>AYY Tech
>Days later
>Sunbeam : Hey we're gunna be there in 2 days (45 Minutes)!
>Mfw I left a beacon there days before and saw where they were dropping
>Mfw what THAT was there for and what it did
Did they fix the performance problems caused by the fact that you could modify the terrain and shit?
I already saw the ship blow the fuck up.
Also, who's killing everyone? Every time I visit a lifepod it has a huge whole in it.
Am I being hunted?
Yes, you should fix it. It's not scary; just bring a fire extinguisher and a repair tool and you'll be fine.
You are.
An island holds the answers.
I didn't mess with the Aurora until I had a seamoth because I knew they'd put a leviathan near the front of the damned thing. Once you go there and fix the radiation leaks in the engine room, shit gets much better since you can wear your stillsuit all the time and not worry too much about water. Plus the PRAWN blueprints are in the Aurora.
Now, it would be fantastic if bone sharks 5 miles away wouldn't come rushing to skull fuck my submarine even when I'm traveling slowly or with the silent drive feature.
I think they finally got rid of terraforming, since I saw a few Crash explosions and they didn't leave craters.
There might be some artifacts, but I think it should be better now
The first time I went there and saw IT start configuring I was quite surprised.
>you'll be fine.
You basically want to. It's an easy move to get progress.
> that shit is scaring me
Well, that's much of the point of Subnautica.
There is ultimately very little that can challenge a systematically progressing player... it's mostly mental obstacles.
The alium fish are killing everyone.
they wound up having to take away the ability to modify terrain. It means that you can't dig your way to fhte final level but it makes the game stable, at least.
Working on making an actual product that can be sold and that has clear goals to deal with is the reason Subnautica didn't wind up No Man's Sky IMHO
What are you implying? You might need a laser cutter, but there's plenty of food and water on board and the only hostile creatures are bleeders in the drive room
Subnautica has noguns
>You see that one red blip on the radar following you forever only to slap you once and then fuck off back to where it came from
Honestly the worst was seeing one of those things ram my perfectly still Cyclops for no reason from outside of it.
Stasis rifle
Pro/repulsion cannon
:^)
at least you have a shield
I don't watch a lot of their stuff but I do like when they're actually kinda roleplaying out characters in the world instead of just talking over gameplay
youtu.be
Why can't you be more creative?
You don't even need to bring a fire extinguisher really, there's plenty to be found in the ship, so long as you don't waste their contents.
Having to rely on a shield kills any reason to use silent running or slow speeds. Yeah, as soon as bone sharks start ramming my cyclops, I just hit the shields and watch them convulse with EMF aids, but still, it'd be nice if all that time and effort they put on the silent running update actually paid off by letting you be sneaky.
I mean the overshield
Any reason why a giant plasteel dick now needs to be shielded?
honestly, the cyclops is god damn garbage now, it would be somewhat useful if I could at least transport my PRAWN with it, but every time I try docking it the damn sub capsizes.
It's big and unwieldy, and the ocean isn't so big you can't just walk wherever you want to in the PRAWN. Basically the only use for it is throwing a locker/garden in for easy resource/food access, and at that point it's more a boat than a sub.
"Creative" meaning an inventory full of rapidly breaking knives?
>It doesn't lead to any interesting mechanics
What about giving you a last ditch speargun that can be used to deter predators, but has a rate of fire that makes it worthless to kill?
And then give you specialized bolts that can do things like attach to larger predators and then track their movements, both giving you the advantage in avoiding them and possibly making it a storyline feature where you have to find where they all go every few days and find the "Reaper Hive" there or some such.
Spearguns are far more than just for killing.
Adding anything more than spearguns wouldn't be necessary in my opinion though. But an easy ranged defensive tool would be nice to have if only to give players a security blanket.
>breaking knives
what?
>want to explore active lava zone months ago
>take cyclops down pit in front of aurora
>pitch black with pitch black tunnel walls, takes forever to navigate without accidentally getting turned around
>can exit out the blood kelp area of lost river
>can exit grand reef area under floating island if you lube your cyclops to get through that tight hole
Now
>want to explore lava zone
>can't maneuver worth shit into hole under floating island
>lost river entrance blocked with trees and spiders that bounce you into cave walls
>can't get in at other lost river area with waterfall because fuck ton of trees and waterfall too tight to fit sub
Bravo, devs. Thanks for making the sub useless by putting fucking road blocks everywhere. There isn't even a use for the cyclops anymore, you fuckwits. What was the purpose of spending all that time on a silent running update if the sub is fucking useless now??
knives have limited durability
no they don't, or it's not listed
>want to build a base outside of the shallows
>can't find any good spots
lol not even him but are you retarded
they do, and it's listed when you mouse over them
what the fuck do you think the hardened blade knife is for?
I can make it down there just fine so get good
there more than just one entrance
what fucking build are you playing
Oh really, there are more than one entrance? Maybe your reading comprehension skills need to "get good," you retard.
>Going to that much effort just to kill a shitty stalker
I don't even give a fuck about guns, because most things in the game have so much health that it would be pointless to even try. Reaper leviathans require about fifteen minutes of straight knifing just to be put down.
Fair enough, I see the wiki says they removed durability now, I haven't played in a few months.
I really hope they do something with the janky looking laser beams from power transmitters.
Some cables with simple physics like HL2 has would be nice. pic related
> Reaper leviathans require about fifteen minutes of straight knifing just to be put down.
See, that's generally speaking why you'd want a gun.
Or at least the PRAWN should be as powerful as advertised in the ingame lore.
I miss geomodding. I used to be able to make the perfect base in the safe shallows and now because of typical crafting game hitbox fuckery, I have to make a base that isn't nearly as ergonomic and streamlined.
I'd be okay with no guns and 'creative solutions' if creatures were actually killable and not 1 billion HP unstoppable monsters. The truth is that they don't want 'creative solutions' as they put it, they want the player to be completely helpless and only able to run away.
>prawn being powerful
Don't make me laugh. My diamond tipped drill arm that's supposed to be able to destroy huge mineral nodes barely gives little fishes a massage. Shit like that makes me wish they wouldn't pretend the thing is powerful.
YEZ JUZT NOT ORKY ENUFF!!!!
WAAAGH!!!!
>tfw the devs didn't make a Subnautica-style model of this guy and put it in the Dunes, Mountains, and Crash Zone to eat Reaper Leviathans
You should thank all third worlders who bought the game
you think they could fix it so it doesn't gore through the world
where can I find exo suit fragments? I can make a cyclops but not this damn suit.
There's a hangar for them in the Aurora. Go there. You'll need a torch cutter and a welder
There's 4 fragments in the Aurora's PRAWN Room, scan them and you've got the blueprints. Hell, you can make it before you make the Cyclops.
i have only ever found 3 in the Aurora
all 4 are in the same room
one is hanging from the ceiling
...
There's the hanging one and three in a row in front of the wall, you have to put the fires out on two of them to scan them.
>you have to put the fires out on two of them to scan them.
Not true. You just have to be clever with your positioning.
or take the fire like a fuckin MAN
About to pull the trigger on this one, Sup Forums.
Does it have an ending, or is this just one of those games where you just keep playing as long as you like?
spooooooooky
Alright I'm in the front of the ship where now?
Considering it's not done yet, it doesn't have an ending
the Aurora is 90% linear. Just keep moving forward until you see a sign labeled "PRAWN bay"
What can I do in this game? Sell me on it before the game is over.
Oh, that is right. I usually just look at screenshots in threads about the game, I actually forgot it was still in EA.
you swim through the ocean seeing fish as well as new and wonderful nature
>load game
>have 2 pods
GEE BILL
I've explored the Aurora, the Floating Island, and the Mountain Island, as well as the ocean areas underneath. Last thing I found was the Degasi seabase in the Deep Grand Reef as well as those fucking CrabSquids christ they're the scariest thing i've seen yet
Where should I go next?
Have you gone into the thing on the mountain island?
If so, have you followed the signal you find there?
You have to go deeper. Down into the Lost River where the Disease Research Facility lies and deeper still into the Lava Zones where she waits for you
Are you in Administator mode? The 2nd pos has a window and lacks a fabricator right? Enjoy your extra storage bay. Stay for the obnoxious duplicate HUD icon.
Subject 11783 destroyed. Mode switch: patrol. New targets unaccounted for: 1.
Guess who the unaccounted target is
if you're talking about the ayylmao shit then no, I wasn't sure if I should go in so soon
I guess I gotta check out the ayylmao shit
What's the scariest creature in Subnautica? Is there anything worse than the Crab Squids? Exploring in the dark and hearing that clicking noise made me want to turn off the game
>just started this an hour ago in VR
>being stranded in open water is one of my only phobias
Nearly had a panic attack the first time a sand shark showed up around the escape pod and I can't even bring myself to go in the direction of those massive vines. Seems like an amazing game though.
Anyone have an idea of what the story progression is going to be like? Obviously it's an open world non-linear game, but what's the sequence of events that lead to the game's "ending" when they finally finish it?
You should go to DOOK DOOK DOOK
The Reapers, without a doubt. You haven't known terror until you've seen or heard one of those monsters
there are many horrible creatures
>crabsquids
>warpers for warping you out of your vehicles and following you for miles
>bonesharks for having an irrational hatred of the cyclops
GO AWAY
I know there's more Leviathans in the game but so far I've just encountered the Reaper
I've seen many of these but never got to let them hurt me so I have no idea what they are capable of which means they still scare me kinda.
Should I be worried about them? I just don't get out of my ship if I see one.
Why do the Bonesharks hate the Cyclops so much?
>tfw this is my post
this is where my Sup Forums performance peaked
Bonesharks can fuck off, but they aren't scary.
I haven't seen a Warper face to face yet I think I'm going to go back to the Mountain Island and check out the ayylmao stuff
They suck and they're terrifying. They also can disable your electronics
success breeds jealousy
Spoilered.
you get messages from the Sunbeam which is coming to save you
Sunbeam gets vaporized by Precursor Gun
your PDA points you in the direction of the Disease research Facility in the Lost River
it's there that you become aware of having the same disease that you've likely seen the creatures have as in you break out in green glowing cysts
then you get a telepathic message
your PDA points you toward the Precursor Power Center deeper still
you get another mind message
PDA says a massive facility is even deeper
you reach it and find a bunch of things and the source of the messages
now you have to hatch some babies with enzymes
then you find them as juveniles in the world and eat their enzymes to cure the disease
then you turn off the Gun
then you build a Rocket and fly away
and you may have only 5 ingame weeks to do everything up to the eating the cure before the disease kills you
I really hope they don't put a time limit on the disease. It's no fun to have to semi-rush through the game before being able to explore.
>repair pod
>make a stash is some corner of some coral for titanium/glass
>settle beacon in stash location just in case
>go explore floating island
>come back
>mindlessly follow the stash beacon
>halfway there notice pod signal is gone
>look around
>fucking pod drifted 2500m is the direction of the floating islands is less than half an hour
>needed to swim back to it cause didn't have fabricator and constructor yet
i though repairing the pod prevented it from drifting?
maybe the mode with no food/h2o will not have the disease? Or you could always just play creative if you want to dick around.
Of course, we're not military savages
We're scientists!
And after that massacrer in Obxilises, exterminating all the fauna on that planet, guns should be banned as they are too powerful
