Possible but it will have to be from another major corporation with a very appealing gimmick. Apple with a casual/light-hearted approach to console gaming could make a lot of money. Have it connect to people's mobiles with local/online multiplayer and I reckon they could make a lot of money that way.

What about Atari coming back into the business? They apparently have something coming, that isn't just a plug and play 20 games in 1 type deal.
Personally I see it coming from Occulus/Vive as a dedicated machine for their VR platforms. Likely in the form of a steam machine from Vive.

Atari doesn't even exist in any semblance of the form it did when it was making consoles.

Whatever this iteration of Atari is, they don't have the money to make a real console to compete with the big 3. You need a substantial amount of capital, and the capacity to take an initial loss, to enter the console business. The only companies capable of doing it would be the likes of Google and Apple or other big electronics companies like Samsung, but why would any of them want to make dedicated home consoles?

Just having good specs doesn't do shit anymore, specially due to brand loyalty people have, that's why the only way for Nintendo to compete right now is to have random gimmicks instead of plain powerful consoles.
You need a reason to make people switch from MS or Sony over your new console, and being slightly more powerful than the competition doesn't do it.
