I got 30 hours out of it.

>34%
I'll keep waiting until 75% or more.

yes if you have any interest in metroidvanias

i'd say so if you liked dark souls and you like metroidvanias. the art style is very pretty and the game handles well.

I bought it full price and had no regrets. If you aren't sure, just pirate it.

Speaking of metroidvanias, the backtracking in Hollow Knight is horrendous. Are they all like that?

sort of. the genre is based around acquiring new powerups and techniques to unlock areas end explore in a non-linear fashion

as long as you're unlocking stag stations and finding hidden shortcuts, the backtracking isn't so bad. the two areas at the very bottom of the map is a bitch to get in and out of though.

I'd say, It's worth at least $25 so yes

isn't that what the tram is for? also IMO, the big problem with hollow knight backtracking is that you have to wait ages for upgrades to get small, insignificant secrets and stuff. it really bothers me to leave things behind, but HK makes it extremely tedious to get them all.

I feel like I'm getting charms and powers way too late. I've probably lost like 5k geos in total and I find the bank after 10 hours of playing. Got pretty mad.

I loved Ori and the Blind Forest, but that's platforming-focused

Meanwhile I hated Shovel Knight which is more combat focused

>he needs the bank
lol
hollow knight has a heavy focus on both. there are challenging platforming sections, there are challenging combat sections. the combat can be made easier by acquiring health and weapon upgrades, and the unique charm upgrades.

More or less, I mean the whole theme of metroidvanias is running in circle to unlock what you couldn't on the previous loop.

I bought it on sale and got 23 and a half hours out of my 100% playthrough

I think it was definitely worth the 10 dollars.
I had a harder time fighting the false knight rematch than I did the actual final boss.
Mantis lords best fight and best wives

>Mantis Lords
Correct.
And correct.
Dream fight when?

It's fun and cute

>mantis lords get a dream fight
>the traitor lord joins in

So just before the Mantis Lords, some guy told me about a smith and upgrading my nail to fare better? Where is it? Only place left - at least I believe so - is fighting some annoying crab walking boss that jumps around and shoots the goop.

Back through the fungal waste there's a path with a big destroyed sign and further down is a statue. Go through there and the smith is in that area.

If I recall correctly you need the item from the mantis village to wall jump to get there.

Yeah, got that tool. Thanks.

Will it run on a toaster?

It kinda put botw into second place and will become goty for me. Still didn't finish it.

AAAAAAAAAAA THUNDOOOOOOOOOO!

youtube.com/watch?v=UyebYbSJmB0

I was not expecting that fight to be as enjoyable as it was.
What a treat.

>throw your body at the Mantis Lords
>win
>the denizens of the Mantis Village don't attack out of respect

I love it when games do this.

As soon as I heard his voice I knew he was going to be a blast
I fucking love that you can go back into his arena and talk to him. He's great

Same
It turned mantis village into one of my favorite areas in the game next to city of tears
You can also make the hive friendly to you, but it requires an item so it isn't nearly as cool

No, Hollow Knight is one of the worst when it comes to that, honestly.

I want Ogrim to get a happy ending in the dlc

>You can also make the hive friendly to you, but it requires an item so it isn't nearly as cool
Fucking what.
how

Metroidvanias usually put a save right by a warp point and there's a lot less to buy

how the FUCK do I beat the failed knight

This or salt and sanctuary? Mommy's only going to buy me one game for the summer sale...

at the very end of their hive, past the ghost of their queen the hiveblood charm. It turns your health into honeycombs that slowly heals the last tick of damage you took. It also has the bonus effect of making the hive friendly to you while you have it equipped. Just like the mantises you can pass through them and everything, but will fight back if you hit them
TLDR you need to wear the honey charm

I thought so.

Salt and Sanctuary is shit, while Hollow Knight is good.

It's up to you.

Fucking banker. Good thing I found her later accidentally.

I assume you mean the dream fight.

He's the fight I had the most trouble with, even more so then the Radiance

I had to change my build around to do it. Drop quick charge, the fight never gives you a chance to really heal with it. Instead Try using the honey charm and allow that to heal you, also pick up the charm that increases your invulnerability period when you get hit.
Shaman stone destroys him too because false is really large so the fireball will hit him twice with the charm on for shitloads of damage.
Consider dream nailing him when his head is revealed to gain more focus to fire more fireballs.

And he does have a pattern, he's just very quick and relentless so its easy to get overwhelmed by him swinging and all the bombs. When he jumps backwards he very rarely swings and when he jumps forward he ALWAYS swings. jump swings never produce shockwaves, but ground slams almost always. When you smack him around after his helmet falls off he always throws a tantrum and leaves himself open for fireballs.

TLDR: honey and magic

I hope user-kun notices me today!

Or you could just not suck, and dash under him when he jumps at you, whack him a few times, then keep that up for every jump after til he jumps away.
Repeat til dead

>tfw if you dream nail them they say "scared"

yeah that too

There are many that have fast travel around the entire game world. HK thinks that would be too videogamey and hard to explain with """"lore"""" so they put like 3 stag stations and hope you don't get bored.

Yeah there really aren't enough fast travel points in the game, it can make getting around a damn chore at times. It looks like they're addressing that in a future update, though. Hopefully it's sufficient.

not worth playing even for free

>Drya is alive in the cover
they fucked up kek

>""""lore""""""
>hating on narrative elements in 2017
It is a common knowledge that the best videogames achieved an equilibrium between the gameplay and the narrative. Hollow Knight is one of them.

I want to have SEX with Hornet

>buying gog games

;_;

Did Drya want Ogrim's d?

Why is she on the cover then? It's not fair.

I want to have SEX with the mantis lords

Cut content along with all the bosses planned for White Castle
Replaced with the traitor lord "boss"

you can bait the failed champion into an infinite loop

all you have to do is get him off-screen and hug one of the sides of the arena. he'll walk towards you and do a jumping attack. hit him when he lands and then dash to the other side.

>HK thinks that would be too videogamey and hard to explain with """"lore"""" so they put like 3 stag stations and hope you don't get bored.
Nigga, upcoming free update is adding new fast travel system and one additional stag station.

>New Upgrade: Dream Gate - Discover a whole new method of traversing Hallownest! Slice through the Veil and travel in an instant from one corner of the kingdom to another.
>A New Stag Station Uncovered - Hallownest’s stags once travelled the breadth of the kingdom, but with the departure of the King, one station was walled away, hidden from bugs and forgotten by stags, until now!

>a-are you really going to rescue an ugly girl like me?

the dlc will add 2 new bosses
considering the cover maybe you can go into Dung's dream and fight her while she's alive.
but I'm getting my hopes up it'll just be Ogrim in his prime

I hope that Stag Station is in Kingdom's Edge

Can someone please give me a hint to where to find the last pale ore?

I've found 5:
-Colesseum
-300 Dream Essence
-Derelict Tram Station
-The doppelganger whose name I forget
-Top of Crystal Peak

Point is, I want the general direction where it could be, the area's name will suffice. I don't want the exact location.

Also, every spell seemed to have gained an upgrade, except the up+B one, I guess I must've missed it. Any vague hint would be appreciated.

Good idea:
You restore health by Focusing. This is difficult to do during bosses since you're totally immobilized and exposed to enemy attacks, so you can't simply spam this virtually unlimited health mechanic.

Bad idea:
Adding a charm to the game that makes you invulnerable while Focusing.

They took a really good, skillful mechanic with inherent vulnerability and threw it out the window with a charm that you can acquire really early on.

HAVEN'T DIED SINCE I STARTED USING THE SHIELD CHARM

It's alright. Not amazingly end of the world stuff, but I didn't regret it.

Grubs give you one.

Hint for finding them: Look in Queen's Gardens for a key.

For the second one: The Abyss.

Right that's all, leave the thread now.

rescue

Where are you up to?
I stopped using it after Soul Master.

>Any vague hint would be appreciated.
the spell upgrade is at the bottom of the map

Really? I thought getting hit while using it interrupted the heal and just did no damage.

Anyway, anybody who's anybody know that the champs overcharm and just don't get hit.

>I thought getting hit while using it interrupted the heal and just did no damage.
This is how it is though.

>getting hit stops your healing, wasting time, meaning that you can only heal when you would have otherwise been able to heal
>vulnerable for the short period after you heal
>charm only takes a small number of hits before breaking

It's basically a clutch for people who can't time when to heal right by giving them a couple of chances. Seems fine to me.

Oh. Well then you still lose the Soul, then. Never used Balder Shell.

This is the dark souls of $10

Only boss I used shield on was Watcher Knights. Seemed pointless to use on others.

>it'll just be Ogrim in his prime
What if it's all 5 knights at once in their prime?

Why? King's Station is already right there.

>Adding a charm to the game that makes you invulnerable while Focusing.
>They took a really good, skillful mechanic with inherent vulnerability and threw it out the window with a charm that you can acquire really early on.
Your heal still gets interrupted even if you don't take damage, and you'll lose soul for the wasted focus. The shield can also break after taking enough hits and become unusable, which will happen if you try taking on the fast optional bosses or Trial of Fools with it. When it happens the only way to repair it is getting back to the bench. Trust me, when you get to the harder parts you'll be ditching that shitty charm.

>HAVEN'T DIED SINCE I STARTED USING THE SHIELD CHARM
I think that's just the game in general regardless of your setup. It isn't so difficult apart from few late game fights like dream bosses. I died a bunch of times, but never lost my Geo since getting back to your shade is so easy.

what? you have to go all the way through the stupid ancient basin every time

please don't tell me I missed something for the entire playthrough

La Mulana is better than this pile of dogshit

no. it's a 5$ game. get terraria instead.

Yeah, you missed something.

Man, what's with videogames and cheapskates. Terraria is terrible and I spend more than $5 on cigarettes and beer.

I'm not saying buy Hollow Knight or go straight to $60, Hollow Knight is just okay, but damn what a competitive market.

Fun

>tfw I got cucked
I'm leaving your ass next game Zote you piece of shit

man you don't even know yet

if you can't handle this super meat boy 1-1 stuff you're doomed

I hope this month free contents bosses are really really hard

You don't even know.

And to extrapolate on the Meat Boy comparison, this is nothing compared to no-deathing Dark World shit.

DOMA DOMA DOMADOMADOMA

You have the wall jump yet or are you just trying to pogo it? You can either way, it's a fun mini-sequence break.

you know that bottom right room in kings station. with the 2 respawning fly enemies?
Try swimming to the right

I played for a few hours, almost getting to the second big boss I believe

I gotta say that it's fine, the combat seems a bit simplistic and the game is a bit buggy here and there. It's definitely good but I really can understand what's going on with the dislike, which is basically people are praising this as -the- metroidvania, when it's pretty lacking.

Also this thing where everyone says "oh it's more like a soulsvania". It's much simpler and there's not as much feeling of pressure when exploring when you can just heal every 2 fucking seconds. The only thing that resembles souls for me is the atmosphere (which seems a little bit overused) and the whole "if you die you can't do some shit until you get your soul back", but I died once.

I don't know, I do like it and I will continue it but I feel that the game has yet to surprise me with something. And it's very lacking in secrets and such.

He's not the hardest fight in the game, but damn I love him either way. Sometimes making the boss really fun and charming is enough to make it memorable. He's just a jolly beetle who throws shit around, and he's very happy about it.

prolly has something to do with the fact that playing video games is for kids.

okay..... mirrors edge is better than dodonpachi

Soul Tyrant was unexpectly easy litreally one tried. bit disappointed desu

I spend too much time in this place before I realised the advantages of hiveblood charm smdh

>it's very lacking in secrets and such.
I was with you until then, but this is just verifiably false.

The game will open up a lot after the third boss, by the way.

...

fuck my life up

I can't wait for playable Hornet.

Took me a long time before I realized you can use your nail to bounce off the buzzsaws. I figured you could only do it to spikes or enemies that act like spikes (like those giant things in deepnest)
Granted it's only useful for like 2 little skips, but hey it helped.

white palace is actually a joke if you use hiveblood

it's just trivialized entirely
