Award shows aren't about who deserves the award. It's about who throws money around. This is why the Oscars are shit on every year it's simply about which actor they wanna push that season. Game of the Year is identically the same shit. You wanna get your game on a top 10 yearly list, you shell out a few million for an award.

The official PC port on day 1 runs like ass and sometimes crashes.
A modder did away with those issues and is the only way AFAIA to play it properly on PC.

Why would Automata deserve GotY? By all accounts it's a mediocre action game and the story isn't anything worth experiencing either.

The only thing it fixed was the border resolution glitch. It never fixed crashes since they are inherent to AMD cards mostly.

I play on 660 and never had any crash or significant frame rate drop. The one and worst case was during the tower sequence where game was switching between A2 and 9S my framerate was dropping as low as 15. Other than that i was keeping a constant 40-60 FPS. On an unchanged five year old PC.

Probably all of them. Nier was a great game but had a ton of issues in traditional Taro fashion.

Every time I see people shit on the game, they never give a proper reason like that map, boring boss fights, the enemies being literally useless compared to you, or how Emil's fight it literally a copypasta of another boss.

It's still a solid 8/10, and fuck summer.

It's a good game but not as good as Sup Forums hypes it up to be.

It's one of those cases where I liked the first game and a small number of other people liked it too and we had good threads but then the second game somehow gained mass appeal and lured in all the "YOU DID BUY 2Bs game RIGHT!?" "LE HIGH POLY BUTT XDDD" shitposter waifufags as well as "OMG SO DEEP" guys who literally have never played anything more thought provoking than Dark Souls and I feel like I don't want to be associated with those people in any way so it feels like a good idea to not mention you like Nier Automata in public.

I've just started playing this game. I'm enjoying it, but it feels like it wants to be so many things that it's a master at none. The combat isn't anything amazing compared to other platinum games, the RPG elements aren't anything too intriguing, and the "open world "is filled with invisible walls and bottlenecks. The shmup parts and the shifting camera-angles are just disrupting the flow of the game.

Nier seems to be the only place where you can experience a mix between a platinum game and an open world rpg though, and the setting and story seems interesting so far.

I actually felt differently. The other parts of the game were good enough to not get in the way of the best things, like story, music, setting and the atmosphere.

It sounds like most anime ost(s), especially Gundam: IBO, Xamd, FMA. Those are some examples of ost(s) that sound very similar to this. It's nothing special.

I didn't watch them once, I've seen them all, and finished them. Nier Automata's ost isn't anything special, most of it sounds like a generic anime orchestra. With the exception of the forest theme.

That's fine, its more than what was expected of it honestly. If you played the 1st NIER you'd know how painfully bland the gameplay was and how its story/OST/atmosphere carried it. Same thing happens here but this time the gameplay is upgraded to decent and enjoyable most of the time.

Sure, DMC/Bayo and even MGR take a shit on it in terms of gameplay/mechanics but you shouldn't really be looking for that level of gameplay. Though I guess I understand people being disappointed after hearing platinum was developing it, probably had higher expectations.

What's so good about it? Felt just like 3 and 4. Nothing new.

Like the other user said, Platinum have pretty much improved on but made very similar the gameplay of NieR: Automata to the original NieR. It's actually fantastic how they've managed to make it so similar yet better. I think you have to had played the original NieR to get that sense of identity though. It did the same shit with the camera changing positions to turn the game from one thing to another, from a third person action game to a twin stick shooter, to a side scroller.

The original NieR also had a bit where the game just turns into a fucking book.

I kinda feel like that as well but not because of variety. RPG elements kinda broke it and most mobs either die in 1 hit or require you to hit-n-run forever until they're dead because they take 0 hitstun and cant be juggled. Feel like enemies HP scaling a bit with your level would kinda fix this but what do I know, it might've broken it more.
