Come in here ye stinkin' dwarfs!
Grabe a barrel of beer and tell me yer finest tales o' the mountains out there
Come in here ye stinkin' dwarfs!
adventure mode > fort mode
Nothing beats playing as a dwarf necromancer
this is a tale about finding no coal
>expecting Sup Forums to give a shit about Dwarf Fortress.
You do know most users are 14-18 year olds right?
2 CATS
I can't type worth shit so I'll just post this.
I've tried at least 20 times but I just cannot get into this game.
Last time I started to think things are getting good but then one of my carpenters gone crazy because I couldn't get a fucking ingredient for his work of art or whatever, so he's running around hurting people, meanwhile goblins decided it's time to attack my fort, meanwhile the miners dug too deep and molten lava just starts to slowly destroy the whole fort from the bottom, also some monsters are climbing up from he depths of hell, and I'm like what the fuck I had a thing going on, and now EVERYTHING is in ruins 9/10th of the population is dead, how the fuck do I defend myself from the hundreds of dangers that are out there to get us fuuuuuuuuuuuck
that's the point user. you just do the best you can.
Losing is fun.
Where do you guys for inspiration for fort design, I typically go with one central stairwell with four hallways branching out from it and then hallways branching out from the first 4 ala a swastica. It works but I want to try something more interesting, any suggestions?
That's the definition of fun.
>tfw you started last week and haven't had anything catastrophic happen and just restart to create a prettier fort
How come nobody created a graphical layer for this game with a proper UI, UX and mouse controls?
With the same underlying game engine and shit. It would blow up for sure.
Multi level floors with vaulted ceilings. It's a pain in the ass to do though.
Fuck yea, that sounds fun, thanks user.
I've tried so many times to get into this game, but the ASCII graphics are just too much for me.
What advice would you give for someone new to DF?
...
So I actually "won"?
I feel better about the whole thing now, thanks.
They have though.

toady has stated that the UI isn't as good as he wants it to be and will work on it eventually, however eventually is when the game is feature complete in like 15 years. There's no point to trying to fix the UI and shit since it just get broken every new update.
Tileset?
How many skyrim threads do you retards need in one day? Go back to /vg/ fucking casuals
Personally I don't find the UI hard to use at all, you get use to the small handful of nested lists you use the most frequently pretty fast. The ASCII also adds to the feeling of wonder and ambiance of the game and forces you to use your imagination a bit.
