Death spasm before mobile gacha shit takes another chunk out of the market. Japanese games as a whole are on the decline. That FFXV mobile game will probably make more money for SE than the actual real one.
Mobile gaming is a cancer.
It is, and the Japanese """ gamers""" love it more than tentacles porn and school girls, combined, apparently. It's a pity since the devs there can still clearly make good console games.
Japanese games kill it every year.
They finally unfucked themselves and learnt modern hardware. Gen 7 was an anomaly of retarded shit.
Shut the fuck up Onsokumaru.
But they are every year since Souls games became a thing.
Because Neir finally brought /ss/ to the mainstream
its not that japanese games suddenly became better, its that everything else that released in the west became progressively worse
Japs never really lost their touch. People only realized this now since the west kind of shit the bed this year.
Would be interesting to see a world where only Japan makes video games. Might probably bring us back to the early 90s era of gaming where only Sega and Nintendo were competing with each other, but this time it's Sony vs Nintendo
Please. The west shits the bed every year. The only year where everyone was fawning over a western game was 2013 when GTAV came out. 2014 doesnt count since that year was so bad that DAI won by default.
...
Kys you fucking faggot and chew on my dried cum
>Playing eroge

>Boner is lost
Goddamnit, bastard.
I was really anticipating Automata to be on par with P5 and BotW.
Shame.
>Kat isn't with them
o-okay
no-one gives a fuck about Gravity Rush
Western games have really stagnated, every recent big budget western game has ranged from mediocre to forgettable. There just hasn't been anything new or interesting.
We're getting skyrim for like the 5th time later this year.
Gravity Rush 2 did mediocre sales plus the Raven DLC was trash, so no
>We're getting skyrim for like the 5th time later this year.
We got Resident Evil 4 ported for the 8th time this gen, it's ok when Japan does it?
In RE4's case yes because that game is awesome.
not him but did that take up a grand total of at least an hour of presentation time at a single E3?
How dare you reply to me
I'm sorry, user. Kat deserves some love, too. Maybe she can be in a different picture with Velvet from Berseria and William from Nioh.
Your new game sucked.
I will never not be mad about that awful and halfassed ending.
I have yet to play any Gravity Rush but I bought GR1 remastered when it was on sale for $20. I've seen lots of gameplay clips from 1 and 2 and I really dig the style of the game even though I'm not typically into anime. I'm surprised Gravity Rush and Kat haven't become Sony icons akin to Mario albeit not nearly as famous. Gravity Rush totally seems like it could be Sony's modern version of the 3D Super Mario's if only it was more popular.
I got the first one because I saw it was worth a lot on Amazo and it was $45 at GameStop, played through it and it is the most inoffensively mediocre game I've ever played. The epitome of a 5/10 game, meaning the most average thing I've ever played.
Even Sunshine and 3D World are leagues above Gravity Rush in terms of fun, can't speak for the sequel because I wasn't going to drop $60 for what looked like more of the same.
Good fap material though.
>play one or two good games that happen to be made in Japan
>omg Japan is the fucking best
Fucking weeaboos.
Here, you sewer rat
>try the most popular western games out at the moment
>they're fucking shit
really gets the noggin joggin
>katfags latching themselves onto the success of other series
just like shantaefags, they like to pretend they're friends with all the hotshots but no-gives a shit about them
Western games haven't been up to par in a very long time user.
Does the West have anything over the East? All I can think of is Racing games since GT sport is looking like trash.
Shantaebros never piggybacg on anybody.
Was Deus Ex the last good western game?
>soulsfag once again with the delusion that their shitty series with bad mechanics is the center of the universe
Don't you have a to post "crash became dark soulsxdddd " somewhere?
Actually putting out a few games this year where the whole world could see the development team clearly applying themselves helped stop the death shudder of them for now but killing it remains to be seen and could many different things by years end. It's definitely been a good run from about Nioh to Stormblood though. Like every month has had at least one Japanese game release that I look forward to which is more than I can say for 2016 or really about the last 3 quarters of Gen 7 dating back to at least 2010.
It's hard to believe just a year before that we were getting games like Bayonetta and the first Souls game (when it was actually still fresh) though and 3 years before that arguable masterpieces like Okami.
I'm still highly skeptical but Japanese devs do seem to be figuring out their place with Gen 8 and what works for them and how. The ability to get crowdfunding and the option for digital release, budget titles and not needing a big physical publisher expecting everything to do Call of Duty in it's prime type numbers opens a lot of doors again. The Switch may open still more yet.
fuck up Onsokumaru, they did it with shovel knight, they did it with MN9, and when that train crashed they went back to Shovel Knight and went all "h-hey, remember me? that MN9 was some funny stuff huh?"
FPS's, CRPGs, Strategy, and immersive sims like SS2 and Deus Ex.
Their golden age does seem to be around that time.
For a place like Sup Forums that's full of ironic weebs that are fixated on things like race and sex appeal of characters over seemingly all other things that might go into a game probably not. For the other 99.9999% of the world absolutely.
Cause America has gone to shit and the left dominate all forms of media
>TFW there will never a studio as good Looking Glass or Ion Storm again
Are Arkane's games any good, never played any of them except Dark Messiah.
(I'm sorry for telling you to shut up I just did it cos evryone else does ;w;)
They are pretty popular. I can understand your dislike perfectly.
Justin Bieber is (or was?) also popular, it doesn't mean it's good.
I didn't say they were good. I just said I understand why you don't like them.
Are indie games the only good games that the west produces anymore? I can't think of a single American made game I've enjoyed in the past 5 years, other than indie games.
Dark Souls invented gaming. Fuck off
Hopefully the GR manga won't be as disappointing as the sequel
Take Automata away from that. It's good but not on the level of Persona and BOTW
Platformers. Not including indie, you got stuff like the DKC Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, Crash-N-Sane Trilogy, and Sonic Mania (which looks to be better then every 3D Sonic by Sonic Team).
And rampant alt-right paranoia dominates all forms of internet discussion on games essentially creating a dynamic not unlike the U.S Senate. The thing is though I'm pretty sure left wing social justice crusading doesn't actually dominate Western games nearly as much as alt-right rhetoric dominates online punditry them in 2017. Literally all I hear about from supposed video game fans anymore which if were really that big a deal and bother them that much begs the question of why they don't just focus on another hobby or possibly kill themselves instead of whining about it every day and turning the internet into one giant salt mine of lies and paranoia.
That's normal.
Western games industry just got lamer recently with all the propaganda
Imagine being this much of pancakefag
Not sure about Prey, but Dishonored I & II are both fucking great.
>Crash-N-Sane Trilogy
Doesn't count and it's not even good.
It has a better soundtrack, better gameplay and a better story, of course it should be there.
I'll never understand why there's wierdos that hate that game this much.
DOOM?
Are they like Thief at all or are they more their own thing? Metal Age is a top 10 game for me.
Because it has forced romance. Either make that shit optional or get rid of that shit entirely.
Yes. They are the closest thing to a modern day Thief game you'll ever get.
It is good.
>BETTER SOUNDTRACK
Nah
>Better gameplay
Nah
>Better story
>Muh transhumanism
Alright.
Did I say I hate it you fucking retard? I just said it's not on the level of BOTW or P5
Japan seems to put it in about the same category, but it left by far the least impact of any of the three with me and arguably wore out it's welcome sometime towards end of the 9S portion but I still finished it for completions sake where it picked up a bit again at the start of the next one before just kind of falling off into another redux of repetitive dialogue, grimdark themes and spinning the wheel on which character from a previous route it could fuck over next. It's just the sort of stuff that wears thin after a while and is really simplistically written (a classic example of a writer trying to write about subject matter that shows flashes of potential and even brilliance for the most part is evidently far beyond his means to actually come up with and fill out a compelling narrative from start to finish), especially when you essentially have to replay the exact same arc with one minor gameplay tweak in hacking.
Abroad only hardcore weebs really seem to think of it as a top tier game anymore if anyone else ever did. It's audience is basically teenage anime fans and whatever "Undertale is the greatest game ever made" hipster fans it managed to pick up almost exclusively along with weird fuckers like me that'll try anything at least once. Granted it clearly hit it out of the park with that demographic big time, but so did Persona 5 which seems to have gotten critical acclaim beyond just the weeb market and "in spite of being so Japanese" as some mainstream reviewers put it in the local newspaper.
I wouldn't put either of them on the same level as BOTW which has the appeal of a legendary franchise to effortlessly hit up the mainstream.
I think this picture is better , the absolute best of the year
It's nowhere near as good as P5 or BotW but the OST is better than both.
Where's Kiryu?
>abloo bloo bloo
someone call the whaaambulance
I think Japan does well because they don't have the same kinds of constraints western games have.
Big studio means you have to pander to the largest audience which means diluted shit.
Also SJW shit that marketers think is important so you end up with ugly ass characters to appease people that don't even play or buy games, when in reality waifus are proven to sell.
And honestly I think its just looking at a game as a way to turn a profit instead of delivering an interesting experience.
So you might get a game like DOOM that is actually pretty good because they wanted to make a cool as Doom game and not another call of halo, we need to sell a billion copies or bust, game.
It's still a really good, really japanese, game that came out in 2017, which was the point of the image. I don't see why it matters that it was less good than the other two.
Not him but that pales in comparison to even Sunset Bridge, let alone Last surprise.
I'm a big fan of all three games but Automata's soundtrack is on another level.
Recently a lot of long awaited projects finally finished around the same time and they turned out to be good, that's all. Either the Japanese are finally getting their shit together or this is their last hurrah, who knows.
I wouldn't say another level, but it is excellent.

Anyone else just love video games or is it just me?
Only you
>(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)
I think it's both. All 3 games in the OP image are fucking fantastic. Blows 2016 out of the water. Meanwhile, western devs are too busy spewing out turds like Andromeda and microtransaction nonsense.
Their boner for Looking Glass/Ion Storm cannot be contained, but they never really reach the heights that said studios reached. They should try something original again. But yes, their games range from decent (Dishonored) to breddy gud (Prey)
This made me realise that recently the odd numbered years have had way better games than the even ones.
At least link the best P5 song
youtube.com
Because people seem to forget that most major western games come out Nov/Dec
I was already typing to chastise you for saying anything besides Rivers In The Desert is the best P5 song, just in preparation of it not being that.
youtube.com
Solid runner-up, though.
I was going for /comfy/ though.
Name one (1) major western game coming out in November/December that looks promising.
Looool it's not gonna even scratch all the big boy weebshit that came out at the start of the year. The West is legit finished.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Delayed until 2018
>OST 69
I like how this is thematically appropriate whether it plays for Shido or Yaldaboath, despite how dissimilar they are. Benjamin Franklin did a good job with this soundtrack.
>not this
youtube.com
That song isn't HYPE AS FUCK though. Plus the sad piano music meme has already been perfected:

Well, starting from September, the biggest western heavy hitters are:
>Destiny 2
>Middle-earth: Shadow of War
>AssCreed Origins
>The Evil Within 2
>Wolfenstein II
>Call of Duty WWII
>Crackdown 3
>Battlefront II
Now, out of all of those games, which one will have the quality of some of the games posted in the OP? Meaning which of these games will deliver on gameplay, soundtrack, story, and even memorable characters? Don't think we have to worry about presentation or voice acting. I left out titles like NBA 2k18, Forza, Need for Speed, and Fifa for obvious reasons.
It was kinda fun, but i really wish there had been more than 5 enemies at a time, maybe some actual mod support and maybe a game that lasted longer than 6 hours. I will also never be able to fully forgive it for having the fucking brass to call itself DOOM (even though i know this was probably 100% the decision of ZeniMax)
>anything persona 4
>good
Wew laddy
