Is there a way you can be legitametely stuck in a Pokemon game? Not being able to do anything? I can recall the possibility (Gold/Silver/Crystal) of selling all your items, spending all your money and releasing all your Pokemon with the exception of a Magikarp, but even then you might save yourself, I've never tried it.

If you do that you can just struggle against bugs for an hour to learn tackle and rebuild from there.
You're never locked into place with a Pokémon box in the area, so no.
And if the Magikarp faints, the player tosses no money away (since he has none)?
Depends on what restrictions you put on yourself, because one could easily argue that even if you go to a high level place, release all your pokemon, ect, you could always trade someone to get out of it
It's pretty much impossible to become permanently stuck thanks to trading, but if you can't there's plenty of scenarios where you're fucked such as stranding yourself on Cinnabar, Cianwood or Sootopolis.
You can just struggle and faint yourself back to a Pokemon Center
Without trading, any place that can 1 shot your only pokemon would make you stuck
I recall there being a ship in Ruby/Sapphire you could get stuck in if you had the sailors see you in certain spots
jesus christ why are pokefags so fucking autistic?
also you realize there's a containment board for you guys, right?
Yeah, that's what I meant (forgot to mention in original post); releasing all the Pokemon but a Magikarp, selling all your items and then spending *all* your money on tossable garbage (Mail). Is there any way you can (without trading) continue normal gameplay if you're stuck on Sotopolis with a level 5 Magikarp and no money and items (let's say on Ruby)?
>Complaining about a relatively interesting gameplay discussion
What would you rather have? Another waifu thread? Another "SJWs are ruining games" thread?
Without a fishing rod, you have no way to encounter Wild Pokemon in Sootopolis since Magikarp can't Surf.
Therefore, you can't slog through the grind of making Magikarp reach Level 20 by fighting other Magikarp so it can evolve and learn Surf and Dive.
No, the game is programming specially to stop that, that why HM are reusable on the first games and you can't release or trade a pokemon that has an HM move learned, and the cities that let you delete HM moves are within normal reach of the player.
They think of this, you can only lock yourself with glitches or save editing.
Read You can't release a pokemon that knows an HM move, and you can't make it forget HM moves in that place.
Play the games next time.
People like him is the reason why Sup Forums has become cancer and shit.
Enjoy waifu and Baneposting, you autistic fag.
I remember there being a glitch in Platinum where if you go on an island and trade a certain Pokemon a guy wants and it also happens to be your only surfer, you're literally trapped if none of your other Pokemon can utilize Surf/Fly
You can't trade pokemons with hm moves, even in-world npc trades.
In Red/Blue/Yellow there is a point where you need an item from the Safari Zone to progress, it is possible (though extremely difficult without trying) to waste all your money and exhaust all the accessible trainers and not be able to proceed.
If you're or of money, don't they let you in for free?
Out*
Only in Yellow.
Even then, you can still grind Wild Meowth's Pay Day for money in RBG, so it's still possible to progress there.
I guess you could do the same before buying the drink for that guy who blocks the road to sabrina's city

Why you lie?
Yup. Your Magikarp gets revived for free.
I must be getting old I was excited by this thread it's a interesting question, I never did it perosnally but have thought about ways to "softlock" games and those rocks were the perfect example.
Then losers like you who are just a virus that proliferates, meanwhile people who want to actually talk about things are just bacteria in a dish somewhere.
i remember watching a clip of someone walking in front of trainer #7, triggering the fight and making him walk 3 cells down, going behind him and saving, loading the game to find the npc reset.
Catch MissingNo and hope something fun happens.
In R/B/Y on one of the routes there's a closed in space blocked by a trainer and a cuttable tree, if you don't have cut you can lure the trainer out with a battle and go behind him to get the item that's there. If you save in that spot and reset, the trainer will reset to their original position and without cut, you will be trapped permanently.
Here ya go OP

Meowth is only in Blue and I think Yellow.
Unlike other video games, for adult people like yourself. Now fuck off.
Gen3: Wobuffett vs Wobuffett, both holding leftovers.
In pokemon blue when I was a wee lad I got stuck.
The game had just come out and there wasn't Sup Forums to help me out, so I had to restart the game.
You'd just be sent to the last pokemon center though.
Finneon can only be caught with a fishing rod, this guy doesn't have a fishing rod.
Really makes you think...
Trade for one
this seems like a legit softlock.
is right about HMs
infinite battle clause
I vaguly remember my friend playing pokeman R/B and had run out of money and items and wasnt able to progress because he couldnt afford to pay and npc to enter the pokeman catching contest thing (where you have a limited number of steps you can take)
You don't find a rod on that island?
Nope it's just you and some weird dude forevially trapped and loving it.
i don't think it's legit, what's the point of placing a tree there if you can get the item before getting cut?
It could have been a romhack.
Then again, it's gen one.
>Go to Cinnabar
>Dump everything but a weak ass Pokemon that can't learn Surf and has no chance of weakening nearby Pokemon that could learn Surf.
They didn't implement the "you can't release this Pokemon if it's the only one you have that could learn an HM" thing until later gens, right?
>does this look like the face of mercy?
>only then will you have my permission to die
>right?
Why are you posting shit that you haven't tested?
No, you can't release a pokemon with hm moves.
I guess like, in saphire, if you save at a pokemon center in the middle of the ocean, then release all your swimming pokemon.
You don't HAVE to grab any of the rods so you couldn't fish your shit back, either.
Yes, it is legit. The point of it is to reward the player for having the forethought to lure out the guy. The cuttable tree is there for people who didn't piece it together
It wasn't until Gen 3 that you couldn't ditch Pokemon who knew HMs.
Well, then you won't encounter this during normal single player, but it was an oversight from the developers.
>Complains about autism but can't report and ignore a single thread
PLAY THE GODDAMN GAMES BEFORE SPOUTING SHIT
You can't release a pokemon that knows an HM move.
>reading comprehension
he said COULD learn an HM
youtube.com
i guess something like this?
>Why are you posting shit that you haven't tested?
Because the thread will have 404'd by the time I get far enough in the game to test it?
What is this, a Google for ants?
Yeah, but then you could still get out by someone trading you something with surf.
So far, this is the one true softlock (but it's assuming you didn't just catch an Abra/ for some reason have something with fly). You can't trade your way out of it, youre just stuck. You don't need to do anything ridiculous like use all of your money or release all your pokemon either, you just have to be a dumb kid saving in a bad spot
Okay fuck you, cinnibar island then.
You can release HM slaves in gen 1 suck my dick.
Why would you want that anyways? Let's be honest. Getting stuck always sucks, even if you have to try hard to suck enough to do so.
Fuck I played pokemon gold and silver for the adventure, exploration and some of the combat. Some of it. I thought people were already taking it a bit far by creating this fucking community around jerking each other off with these IVs and EVs and UAVs and whatever the fuck. Then I saw this faggot looking guy with glasses trying to finish these games in like 2 hours tops with no glitches while screaming at mom because his brother cucked him. And now this? What the fuck is wrong with you people?
Yeah in gen 1-ruby sapphire it is. After Gen 4 I don't think it is. Gen 1 there are tons of ways. people have made videos on the subject if you're more interested. This video is pretty good guy isnt a mexican, attention whore,or a dudebro like most pokemon shit on YouTube .youtu.be
>inb4 shilling
It ain't shilling if you do it for free nigger.
If you run out of money in Gen 1 and can't get into the Safari Zone to get the HM, then your game is effectively over.
Also these:
youtu.be
youtu.be
In RSE you can strand yourself in Sootopolis by corrupting your box with Bad Eggs through the Pomeg Berry glitch.
Already posted, twice, read the bread next time man
Actually I guess you could technically get stuck in gen 4 via the 4 square glitch riding through a wall save and restart the game without having fly or teleport.
>Why would you want that anyways?
No one wants it to actually happen to them. It's just sheer curiosity.
I wouldn't say his content is bad (and you tell me if he doesn't get ad revenue for that anyways marty mcfaggotface) but his voice is definitely the worst characteristic. He's like the default generic movie critic, he talks slow, he makes it uninteresting on purpose. It's like matthewmatosis, these people try too hard to act intellectual.
You'd have to have also not obtained any rods to do this. If you had a rod you could fish teach a poke dive surf etc
how do you manage to make him walk 3 spaces down and avoid the fight? fly or teleport i'm guessing?
>If you run out of money in Gen 1 and can't get into the Safari Zone to get the HM, then your game is effectively over.
Not really. IRRC there's a TM for Payday, and either way you could just catch a Meowth. Unless you purposefully go out of your way to not teach Payday to anyone, you can still make money
I played Yellow on emulator and got stuck once. In Victory Road one of those barriers which you need Strength for bugged out and I managed to pass through. However the rest of the cave was still normal so I turned back and the barrier was back up and I didn't have the HM with me or anything that knew Strength. Then again, it's still a cave so I could let all the Golbats chip my mons to death so I restart at a Pokemon Center
you can strand yourself on cinnibar island in gen1 too
dont get any rods ,release every water pokemon spend all money and use the pokecenter on the island and you cannot leave
I'm sure you can get stuck in the older games.
If you look up the glitches you perform to get missingno or mew to appear you could probably do something like those by mistake and get stuck in a tile or something, though the chances would be 1 in millions
it is possible to get stuck in D/P/Pt by trading away your Finneon to Meister if it's your only pokemon that knows Surf
It doesn't matter if you have a rod or not. If you're not carrying any Pokeballs you can't catch any Pokemon.
>Fly
>release your flyer
you cant get a flying pokemon in cinnibar anyway
>(but it's assuming you didn't just catch an Abra/ for some reason have something with fly)
Or have something with Cut which is required to get to Cerulean.
>avoid the fight?
Well, obviously you go behind him after the fight.
Release all your flying pokémon or fill their movepool with other non-Fly HMs
what if you don't have money for balls to catch that meowth and/or a pokemon that can learn the TM?
What's the best pokemon to play if you're the kind of person that enjoys pokemon games for the single player experience? Not talking about the story but rather the adventure aspect. The "you're still playing some jrpg, man" aspect.
I'm considering Pokemon Diamond but I haven't played X/Y or Sun/Moon.
the only actual answer
have a (you)
Platinum is generally considered the best Pokemon game [citation needed], try that.
If you want a real sense of adventure, I'd recommend looking for another RPG series like Xenoblade, the magic and wonder's been dead in Pokémon for ages.
Gen 2 (not the remakes) has the best music. There's a small bit of nonlinearity, too, which is relatively uncommon.
Skip SunMoon and wait for Ultra SunMoon
Well, I can see why. There's some actual difficulty and elite 4 can actually break that notion that you can just barge in with a really garbage overleveled team. The map is pretty neat and has its secrets. There's quite a few decent minigames. It has pretty good music as well. Extra event content is also good.
This angry autist.
What the fuck's the difference?
>There's quite a few decent minigames
The Underground was top comfy.
One's ultra.
>not only do they make double the profits from selling the same game twice now they're selling the same game four times
Nintendo was a mistake.
Yeah, I spent quite some time on that.
Another thing I loved was casinos, IIRC they fucked up with that though in Platinum because children and gambling.
>The "you're still playing some jrpg, man" aspect.
Gen 5, hands down.
Yeah, this time they went a little bit further.
First they decided to make "third" versions that were just basically enhanced versions with a little bit of new content. Then the remakes, and now there's 2 of the enhanced version.
>now
Nigga what? There's always been two Pokémon version, and you're not supposed to buy both, you're supposed to trade with your friends so they're not making ""double the profit""
>they're selling the same game four times
Sequels/reinventions like Black 2 White 2 are not the same game.
Refer to this list.
That's it, time for soul silver. Fuck this shit.
The first ranking list I've seen that I've completely agreed with.
gen 2 > remakes
No, this time is different. Most gens had 2/3 of the same with half of them having 2 remakes. This one has 4 games.
