If you can't into Initial D, then you should try to play any of the Touge Max games. They're slightly easier to get used to.

Ultimate Touge simulator. You have to spend a bajillion hours on allot of cars to get them decent to drift though but it's fun.

Racedriver GRID, mastering the no handbrake drift feels no good.

I've seen some nice wheel setups done on assetto corsa, gives you actual crontrol when drifting unlike arcade games

Type 4 is quite possibly the worst Ridge Racer game for drifting. Drift cars just get flicked around and the drift automatically ends, and while grip cars feel amazing, it's not drifting. If you want Ridge Racer games where you can drift, go back to RR1 or Revolution, or go forward a bit to the PSP or 7th gen games.

iRacing supposedly is one of the more realistic sims out there.

I could be wrong but from my experience I'd say Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsports 7 are way up there. I like The Crew for picture taking but I doubt it's the prettiest racing/driving game out

You want to find a battle gear 4 tuned arcade machine. Nothing compares to mastering the clutch and weight distribution in order to pop into a drift and then using the acceleration to control your drift as you propel yourself around the corner.
Best arcade machine if you like drifting bar none.

TXR3 was great too. Can't go wrong with either, or Zero really. Sucks that Genki is now pretty much dead and only recently brought out some mobile game, hopefully it gets them the money to do another Shotokou Battle or Kaido Battle.

that being said, RR1/2 (actually the same game with the same handling and courses and all, just get RR2 because it's got more shit) on PSP has hilariously automated drifts that move based on the road spline
It's a great game with loads of content and a satisfying handling model, and the whole drift->boost->repeat system is really satisfying when you have it down, but you can still drift the wrong fucking way into a corner if you're willing to take a speed penalty (I've ended up doing this on some chicanes I'd normally drive grip around when I know I'm not going to be able to take it properly).

On a proper track around corners and all that, yes. In a basic v6 where you just jam the accelerator from a standstill in a safe area is easy.

Grip or not, it's the shortest time possible on a race track that matters in the end and while you're drifting wide into the barriers, real drivers will be cleaning corners at impossible speeds.
