it made a red LED light up

It switched the analog control on / off?

didn't it turn on/off the analogue sticks?

It turns the analog sticks on and off.

Something anal :3

Fucking normalfags.

Never owned a ps1 but how come in emulators only used directional pads? Sometimes thumbsticks don't even do anything

Why are you posting trash facebook memes

Last time I thought this was was when I was all fake misanthropic 14 almost ten fucking years ago, but I can't avoid it lately.

Why are people so fucking dumb?
It's actually staggering something like this post has over 5 likes or shares.

Why do you have a Facebool account?

The same thing the " Analog On/Off " option does when you are playing a PS2 game on a PS3 and press the middle button to open the options screen.

Why would you ever not want the analog sticks on though?

This. I always pressed it before shoving one of the grips up my ass.

What are some PS2 games that actually used this? Never had a PS1 no bully pls I don't remember it doing jack shit besides lighting up the LED.

...

I fucking hate normies

Never owned a PSX but I think it's only select games that allowed analog use

The first ps1 controllers didn't have analog sticks, just the dpad.

the PS1 didn't get a controller with analog sticks until 3 years after its release

Good question.

Maybe you have super huge hands and you keep nudging them when you're using the D-Pad and buttons?

Probably for PS1 backwards compatibility

So what games use them

That's a lotta words to say "it dougs."

Sidescrollers and fightan games.

fun fact: the first game with a doug button was dig doug, published by namco in 1982

Because they suck for everything that is not a first/third person shooter or a racing game?

Most games towards the end of its life. Ape Escape was the first that required the controller however.

but you can just not use the analog sticks? Why bother turning them off

>PSX

it is a mystery

But if that's the case, wouldn't the developers just use the d-pad instead and have the analog sticks do nothing or something else?

Wah. The Sup Forums fags make Reddit look good. Cry baby niggers.

Did people...not understand what the analog button did? I messed around with that controller as a 9 year old and understood exactly what it did within minutes of fiddling around with it

Why bother programming that when the controller does it for you

>plug dualshock on PC
>open ds4windows
>make it vibrate endlessly
>put it in pooper
feels good 2bh

It isn't an on and off button. It switches functionality of the dpad and the sticks. If you have analog on, the dpad wont work and vice versa.

woah

youtube.com/watch?v=Vqri4Lvf-4s

Because you have to understand that originally this was not the future, it was simply a potentially useful accessory. Imagine having a turbo button that never shut off.

>Did people...
Go back

it turned the analog sticks on and off

For some games, the D-pad would not be used for movement while the sticks were on. It was really boneheaded in some cases, but also partly due to the fact that early PSX games were not designed the be used with them at all.

I thought this came out late PS1?

The premise was that older games that didn't support the new analogs could use them with this switch feature.

And yes, believe it or not, they used to not have analog sticks for PS1 controllers.

saving this

It was called PSX by literally everyone

people actually knew what words meant back then so it wasn't a mystery until millennial meme spouters got their hands on it.

Yeah, its not a difficult thing to discover. Maybe for the PS2, since I don't think most games didn't let you turn off the analog button? But for the PS1, its really easy to go "Oh, this button made the analogs stop or start working."

In juvenile detention centers they sometimes had playstations to reward good behavior, young inmates would use the analog button to secretly communicate with each other. Bottoms would press the button to turn on the light and indicate that they were an "anal OG" and available for sex that night

In my country it was even common to actually say "PSX" instead of "Playstation" when talking.

Pic for clarification

You young shits are making me feel old

>I don't think most games didn't
wow I'm a retard.

Everyone called the Switch the NX but you'd be a retard to insist that everyone should keep calling it that.

How about you learn to form your thoughts into actual sentences before you call other people dumb. You're not wrong, but you're not any better.

Just like the switch was called the NX by everyone?

It was the codename retard.

Everyone called it the playstation after launch

Some games would disable the D-Pad for some reason.

That looks uncomfortable as fuck

>get a PS1 analogue controller not long after it came
>see this button
>press it
>find out it turns analogue sticks off
People can't be this fucking retarded, surely?

It's literally the same as the regular controller but without the analog sticks

It came out during the middle of its life. It was just so well supported later that it was as though the Dualshock was the only controller

Are you saying that there are people who owned a ps1/ps2 and never tried ou what that button does?

good job good sir, you get it

They are lad.

>implying the dualshocks aren't comfy as hell

someone was mad enough to do this cause people wasn't calling it the PSX
autism right here.

>btfo
>a-autism!

In Mexico PSX means the old gray square console and PS1 means the white small one.

Dmc used them exclusively. I remember having trouble when I first got it. Analogs as a primary was never a thing.

This. How could these fucking idiots not understand what that button is for.

Devil may cry on ps2 was my first experience where you had to use them. That was a big learning curve for 10 year old me.

And the regular controller is uncomfortable as fuck, but the sticks help it

>Implying I didn't know about or own this controller

Not Vidya.

Toggled the analog sticks. Necessary in games without dualshock support. I want anyone under the age of 25 to leave.

>PS1 controllers aren't video games
I should expect utter retardation from a furfag

But ps1 wasn't pressure sensitive, made the mistake of trying to play mgs2 with one back in the day.

Just fucking wiki it

>Talking about vidya controllers is somehow not vidya
As expected from a furfag.

>this thread

This guys, stop being stupid, it's even written right there.
I also actually thought the dualshock was the regular controller because I was late to the party.

It's more vidya than your shitty

chill out

some games came out before the PS1 even had sticks

no, you haven't btfo anyone with your shitty image, you just proved how petty you are.

How fucking short is that cable

They're baiting, it has to be a mass bait operation.

Developers didn't really "get" analog sticks at the time. Shit, Sony released the system with no analog sticks and developers pretty much designed around not having them because that's what you do. Which is why a lot had just a hard toggle between d-pad and analog stick, where the analog stick just acted like the d-pad and vice versa.

This image makes thing think most people didn't "get" analog sticks at the time.

IIRC, it was 1.40m.
4.5 feet in burgers.

Well at that time, since it was a new thing, they thought it was important enough to be able to disable it. Clearly they don't feel that way anymore.

some games on the original release PS1 will not work with the analog stick controllers. It would just show a 'screen saver mode' if the game had one when one of these controllers were plugged in. This button was added because of this problem so the analog sticks could be turned off electrically so the controller would work.

If that image doesn't prove that games journalism hasn't always been fucking retarded, I don't know what does

>Wanna play some PEE ASS SEX?

you have to remember that this was before analog sticks was a common thing. Not saying that reviewers aren't retarded, but using the sticks at all was a very foreign concept in the beginning

some games flat out didn't support the analog sticks so they disabled it automatically. other games had optional support for analog you could toggle yourself but some games were terrible and just mapped the standard 4 direction D-pad movement to a analog stick so you had no freedom of movement.

Some games won't accept any input if analog was on (mostly from games made before the dual analog was released), Like SimCity 2000 and maybe the original Resident Evil.

It switched between digital and analog mode normally and also flightstick mode if you had a dual analog which came out before the dualshock but only like 20 games used that mode.

>Man was not meant to know
>literally made by man

Facebook memers are so desperate for attention, it's pathetic.

It did shit on the Dual Analog controller, it only toggled the sticks on or off and let you control stuff with the dpad on the Dualshock. Some games required the sticks and didn't work with the dpad and some games didn't play nice with the sticks, needing you to turn them off.

>Facebook memes
NOT VIDEOGAMES YOU FUCKING CUNTS MODS DO YOUR FUCKING JOB

?
What the fuck are you on? Mexico is huge, no one I know in the south and the CDMX called int the PSX, where does the fucking X come from?

It's PS1 here, or they just call it the "Play uno", because who the fuck cares which model you're talking about? They both do the exact same shit except for the music player which is a bit different, unless you're buying one or specifically stating you owned or own one of the smaller models.

PSX is that one fucking pro model with a bunch of shit on it.
