I can play video games now.
When I was in elementary school.
>learning a dead language
go learn mandarin instead
I'm learning right now. I figured since I consume so much Japanese media I should just learn the language.
I've tried a few times but I can never get past learning Kana.
>Kana
Motherfucking babies can learn that shit.
Stay still loser!
i'm actually going to start japanese classes next week.
ive lived there for a little more than a year but i couldn't grasp the lçanguage that well, i was also busy enjoying myself too much.
i plan to go back there one day i maybe lieve there for the rest of life. that country is fucking amazing an has everything i ever wanted in life so ill fight for it.
i have no idea how to get a decent job there though since i just finished college
In my last year of highschool I started downloading and attempting to crack untranslated eroge.
I picked up enough Japanese in doing so that I can mostly decipher regular sentences. I thought about taking some classes when I started university, but I realized I'd want to kill myself if I were associated with the kind of people taking Japanese 101 at my college and being somewhat self taught doesn't qualify me to skip the beginner classes.
We need to eradicate China.
Of course
I really want to play Dragon Quest XI RIGHT FUCKING NOW
Yes, and i'm not going to give up.
youtube.com
Nah, I learned it for porn. It's nice to play games, and watch TV with it too though.
People really don't understand just how much porn is completely untranslated. It's so fucking weird to see people talking about how much they like an artist, when they haven't even read a tenth of his work because barely any of it is translated.
It's not hard.
>weebs
nah im gonna learn it to understand their music
Here's a tip if some of you want to learn Japanese.
Motivation gets run out quickly. You need to establish discipline and follow your schedule, it's the only efficient way.
Already learnt Japanese.
What a are some good unstranslated games to play?
That aren't vns
What's worse is that most of it is never available in the first place.
Most of what is sold at comiket is never uploaded, no chance to get translated and no chance to be read even if you know the language.
You can't learn Japanese.
Yes, but I am too stupid and have no patience, by the time I really learn japanese I would probably be 40 or something (I am 23 right now), is too much time.
Already did, I can read pretty much anything I come across, and play any game as I would in english, git gud.
yes
right now im a little stuck on learning conjugations
any tips?
>
It's getting better these days with a decent amount of digital releases. Every year I'm disappointed by just how dull most of the scans are, completely vanilla trash about flavor of the month shows.
Yes.
Just to play Blaze Union and OG Frontier Exceed
Fuck Atlus.
...
*blocks your japanese*
No, I am learning Chinese for literature though, you fucking pleb,
In my third year of it in uni now, apparently by next year I'll be at N3 level minimum, I haven't really tried playing any games or anything though in japanese it seems like too much of a hassle at my current level of comprehension but maybe I'll try it anyway
Not today
Sure thing user, whatever you say, Japanese isn't ever that hard to being with.
No, but I'm learning Korean because I like their TV shows
Prepare to be reminded 馬鹿

Too lazy, payoff would be minimal

hmmmmmm
Fuck this bitch
Here's a cheat sheet
that's a nice guide but djt is trash
Stop making these threads everyday you fucking retard.
What's the matter, too casual?
I like the dekinai-chan meme, mainly because I hate faggots who say that they want to learn but are too lazy or stupid
My native language is Spanish although I speak and write better in English. Learning Japanese was pretty easy for probably because I actually went to school to learn instead of being a NEET autist like everyone in this thread. You can't learn a language on you own without talking to other people. I found that way better than learning from books.
I'm playing it right now. The level of Japanese isn't too hard.
>Easiest way to learn Jap would be to just go to classes for it
>Would die of embarrassment if I actually went
>You can't learn a language on you own without talking to other people.
The only thing that does is that you get better at pronuntiation, you're a fucking retard kill yourself spic
Well, because if this thread i just went to a japanese school near my house and applied to some classes. It is cheaper than other language schools i went but it seems to be good enough to start.
yeah. ive considered it just to play bunny black 3 since the translator is almost certainly not gonna translate it due to the spaceing issue requiring too much time investment.
then i remembered im too lazy to do anything at all.
週に2回会話練習すは。漢字分からない。本当なんでするが知らない。
多分未来に日本で旅行する。
i'd much rather learn a relevant language
Yeah, you should probably polish up on your English first. Once you're done with that though, you've successfully exhausted the world's supply of relevant languages, so learning one for entertainment might be a good idea.
imagine being this autistic
>mfw half japanese
>can understand perfectly when people talk to me
>have trouble talking and writing
Feel like Im and embarassment to my family.
Imagine getting btfo this hard.
What said, Classes just teach you basic stuff and pronuntiation and you have to learn most of the stuff on your own I really doubt you know japanese if you only took classes and didn't study at home. Not saying that classes are useless tho
It's the white dad's genetics that are making you retarded.
reminder that japanese is a shit tier language
i didn't even get btfo'd, there was nothing wrong with my sentence
see
Yes, but then i realized there are no great games that require you to know japanese so it's pointless.
At most you would be able to play a couple japanese porn strategy games that don't suck ass (ie. from AliceSoft), and let's be honest: there's already so much translated porn even if i learnt japanese i'd have to skip reading 99% of untranslated shit.
>Yes, but then i realized there are no great games that require you to know japanese
You know I wanted to reply with examples and/or a laughing anime face but I won't, because I know I'll just get
>shit
>shit
>weeaboo shit
in response.
I'm being honest. But keep in mind i'm already too old to care about your average animu JRPG.
>the world is full of fantastic languages with rich literary traditions such as french, russian, spanish, german, even possibly greek, latin, sanskrit
>better waste years learning the language of some backwater islands for video games and hentai
kys my man
And of course i would be a few years older before i could be fluent in japanese.
japan doesnt have literature?
French sounds like shit.
>and hentai
And this is the richest part, when translated hentai mangas are being released every single day to the point you'll never not find something to read whenever you want to fap.
Unless you're really adamant about reading visual novels or playing super shitty Rpgmaker games it's not worth it.
Have been for a year.
I suck at it and I'm exhausted.
Still keeping at it, though.
Go home /lit/ you're drunk
It's called pragmatism, user. And french comics are the only reason I'm learning french in the first place.
during high school when i got back from school i spent hours a day studying kanji and vocabulary, watched a ton of anime which helped as well, eventually graduated to reading raw scans of manga and japanese wikipedia, then reading raw scans of japanese novels. of course i also got a bunch of games like the jap version of SOTN, didnt have to play it with the shitty english dub like all the plebs.
>you'll never not find something to read whenever you want to fap.
Maybe if you only read the most vanilla garbage around.
You do realize that the shit that gets translated is only cutting the surface, right?
>implying
Unless your tastes are very obscure there's plenty of non-vanilla shit being constantly released.
How obscure are your tastes? And have you finished your backlog?
I went to a beginner's jap course for teh lulz, but I later used it to play R-Type Tactics 2. I didn't understand a word of the story but the gameplay was just english words written in kana.

>on your own
We had study groups and had connections with Japanese people who would teach us Japanese and we would teach them English. It was fun. Best freinds in my entire life.
Considered? I just placed an Amazon order for a bunch of kid's books. I'm progressing pretty nicely, I think.
Just out of morbid curiosity, about how long did it take everyone before they could read their first thing without furigana?
>>Unless your tastes are very obscure there's plenty of non-vanilla shit being constantly released.
There are days where even the untranslated sum total of a few dozen tags on Pixiv, sadpanda, and twitter aren't enough. It's crazy that you think translated shit is enough, I guess if you get off to a single 20 page doujin you could make do as a vanillafag.
Do it for him.
>Learn language you're not interested in
>Don't use it as you have no interests in the goal language or culture and waste it away
>H-hey at least I learnt something!
kys my man
It doesn't have to do with obscure tastes. There's just so many untranslated shit. For a translated porno I can raise you 20 untranslated ones that are better than it.
>go learn an awful meme language instead of one you'll have constant exposure to
Sure thing, Chang.
いいえ先輩
I've played games without it, but it just makes things a lot more awkward since you have to take much longer looking up kanji you don't know.
Duolingo gets a lot of flack, but the emails and phone notifications really help with establishing the habit. Anki on the phone too has notifications, but they're less intrusive and therefore easier to ignore.
I'm still riding the high of being able to read anything in Japanese at all. Breezed through the level one graded readers, so I have a few of those "Masterpieces every child should read by 10" in the mail right now. I'll see how well I do on those before I try anything more advanced.
If you say so, Jules.
I wanted to go to school to learn but my state doesn't offer Japanese courses. I had to learn online, which turned out ok. I read more than I speak to natives.
Luckily, there are a lot of apps to use for both text chatting speaking over the phone, which I would be doing anyway one girl sent me nudes and asked me to come visit her
I started about 2 months ago. Thought i would give up at Kanji but I've managed to make myself keep at it everyday so far. Anytime i can pick out something and read it even if its only a word or two it helps me keep going knowing I'm making progress.
Not "just", but one of the many reasons I study Japanese.
I have been toying with it for years, but after taking a class in Uni for it I have been able to pick pieces out of 4koma, online stuff, and even news pieces. Its always encouraging.
That doesn't really apply if you're following specific artists/circles. Especially some less popular ones. Jeanna Deack's latest isn't translated, Free-style only has one or two works translated, fucking Maron Maron still has a couple things untranslated. And then fucking Spermatank. I've wanted to read it for ten fucking years and only one or two chapters have been translated.
I did several years ago. The funny thing is I don't play games in Japanese as often anymore.
No, but I considered learning japanese just to read futa doujins
Basically /djt/
I learned well enough to read kana and most common kanji. Though I cannot pronounce anything and couldn't form a sentence if my life depended on it. I will likely never speak to a japanese person, so when I was going through my courses and resources I skipped anything having to do with speaking. It worked okay. I can read most subtitles. Learning to read kanji isn't as hard as learning to read and write them. Just use anki and you'll get it.
>It's crazy that you think translated shit is enough
My backlog is over 5k if i'm being selective (and over 10k if lax), by the time i finished fapping to everything i want to read right now i'd have to add all the new translated mangas released during that time period.
>I guess if you get off to a single 20 page doujin you could make do as a vanillafag
Extension has nothing to do with how vanilla or hardcore the content within each piece is, and there's plenty of tankoubons too (which of course take several faps to finish).
>For a translated porno I can raise you 20 untranslated ones that are better than it.
Even if that were true, it wouldn't make me not want to read what i already bookmarked.
>if you're following specific artists/circles. Especially some less popular ones
Fair enough. Personally i'm constantly switching authors and fetishes so i never get tired of any style.
My man.
>Personally i'm constantly switching authors and fetishes so i never get tired of any style.
That's also a fair point. But like I said, I've been wanting to read Spermatank for years. That demon with the different 'levels' written on her body parts gets me rock hard every time And one of my favorite things about Jeanne Dack is the situations he writes, not necessarily his art. And I always love the way he doesn't outright state the character's age, but says something like "Jenny: 30 years old - had a kid at 15." and the character next to her will have a description like "Sarah: Jenny's daughter."
>Have you ever considered learning Japanese just to play video games?
Yeah, then I studied like crazy and passed JLPT1 in 2005. Still not as fluent as your average Japanese university graduate desu
but seriously tho, dekinai. You need to study more user
