One of the worst survival horror games ever. Main character is boring as fuck. Game looks like shit. You'll be repeating the same levels over and over. Ghosts are shit. Not scary. Escort quest for the last half of the game and no puzzles.

Dont fuck with the ghosts. You cant really do anything about them other then nail them down with the sword, which there arnt enough for every ghost.

This is like the Code Veronica of Silent Hill, the last traditional game in the series that's a hated underdog, but is actually one of the best core representations of the series.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
If SH3 runs like shit even on a strong PC, check and lower the Rendering Resolution setting.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Try the new PGXP emulator for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.

Good shit until after the hospital. From there on it isn't necessarily bad, it's just more of the same with Walter on your ass. When re-playing it's the part where I usually drop it.

Boring protagonist, and borderline the most interesting antagonist in any SH game. Shame it wasn't given more time.

Out of all the things you chose to correct, you went for the one that's literally true. 4 has the worst areas compared to the previous three (a worse subway, boring woods, a worse prison, the mish-mash that is South Ashfield and a worse apartment) as well as shockingly low quality textures. I'm actually surprised that the guy who designed much of the town and was environment designer for 2 was art director of 4. A lot of his criticism are also true, with the only thing being subjective being the ghosts. However, the 21 Sacraments story is kino, and is what saves 4 from being complete garbage. Still fun to play through, just isn't as well crafted as 1-3.

Given more time might have been the wrong words then, but rather given more direction.

Because wether or not it was supposed to be a Silent Hill game to begin with (let's not go down that rabbit hole), there was clearly development issues.

I assume you mean burping nurses. But yeah, the loss of Masahiro Ito and some other core members were damaging, but at least Akira Yamaoka stayed and produced an awesome soundtrack.

A decent game, despite how many people cried about it when it first released and who still cry about it. It is memorable in it's own right, but arguably not as memorable as the first three games. It still has interesting features though. The soundtrack is also good because Akira Yamaoka. Room of Angel will always be one of my all time favourite SH songs.

That's exactly what happened during development, which is why some SH fans throw a bitch fit over it.

The four members that left were the most important for the series development.

Toyama was responsable for atmosphere and cinematic techniques for the 1st one. That's why 2 and 3 were so different from 1. Owaku co-wrote the story with him for 1, and the quality of his input was made obvious after 2 and 3.

Ito designed the monsters and environments

Sato designed the characters. 3's characters, althought interesting and well-writen, weren't as deep, for that reason.

The four members left, responsable for 4, didn't really have the talent that the other four had. Imamura, Tsuboyama and Yuri knew core concepts and ways of thinking the game, with source inspirations and story details, and that's what makes 4 be coherent with the series canon. It's boring and pretty lame, but coherent.

Akira Yamaoka is just a musician. A really good musician, who doesn't actually know about the SH story deeply... his talent is more along the lines of taking directions and achieving desired results in a perfect way, rather than adding to the development in general.


In conclusion, SH4 is shit, but still part of the series. It would serve as a closure, but the game is more of a spin-off. I really wish 4's story was about the whole town being absorbed by a demonic force after a failed experiment by remnants from the Order, making it dissapear from existance or something like that, so no other SH game was ever made.

Why do people STILL keep spreading this old myth and lie? SH4 was ALWAYS meant to be a Silent Hill game, and a sequel, just a bit more experimental one, because making practically the same game over and over again can get tiresome.
