That's not the point. The point is that she was named Pauline long before the Game Boy game. It's what her name was in the U.S. The names Jumpman and Lady were only used in the Japanese version of arcade DK. The names Mario and Pauline were used the instant the game came over the U.S. Maybe you have a point in that the name Pauline might not have been used in Japan until the Game Boy game, but that's irrelevant. Saying that Pauline and Lady are different characters is as retarded as saying that Peach and Toadstool are different characters.

The entirety of the series thrives on "clones" or derivatives of other existing characters like Wario from Mario, Toadette from Toad, etc. People that complain about clones don't really care about the series much to begin with. The most important thing to do is to give Daisy something to do just as they gave Pauline something to do. Everything else will fall into place after that.
