Aim for easy yaku like tanyao (only numbered tiles between 2-8), ittsu (straight) and pinfu (look it up). Go for chiitoitsu (seven pairs) if you have four or five pairs in your opening hand. Resist the temptation to go for Kokushi Musou, you're not going to get it. Don't go into furiten. If someone else riichis, only deal tiles they've already dealt. Don't pon/kan/chi unless you know exactly what you're doing.

You can shortcut all of this by becoming a lesbian and gaining mahjong superpowers.

4 sets and a pair.
A set is three or four identical tiles (more points) or three consecutive tiles, like 3-4-5 of the same type (less points). There are special tiles which have no numbers, so you can only collect identical tiles, but those tend to be worth even more.

If someone discards a tile that makes you win or completes a three/four of a kind, you can steal it and it's instantly your turn - if a tile completes a straight, you can only steal it when it's your turn anyway.

That's enough for Chinese Mahjong, but in Yakuza you play Riichi Mahjong. Basically, you have to have a yaku, which is doing something special for bonus points. More yaku is worth a shitload more points, but basically check what you have on hand, look which yaku is easy to reach, and go for it. For most yaku you are NOT allowed to steal, except for the last tile.

What I did in the beginning:
if you can steal 3 of a kind of any dragon, your wind or the round wind, do it.
Otherwise don't steal, just pick up tiles until only one is missing, call riichi, and hope someone throws you the win.

also:
chi = straight
pon = 3 of a kind
kan = 4 of a kind
ron = stealing the last tile you need to win
tsumo = drawing the last tile by yourself and announcing that you win

3 sets of 3 and one pair, aim for that first.
Then you can learn the Yaku.

A lot of them are luck based, you don't need to think about them or aim for them. Ignore all yakuman/double yakuman hands, you're not a bad enough dude. Ignore the scoring at the bottom left, the computer does all that for you. A lot of the rest are just common sense ("durr maybe if all the tiles in my hand are the same suit it's a good hand", no shit motherfucker that's chinitsu and you just kicked everyone's ass) or really easy to get (Pon a dragon tile? Then pon your round wind? Pon two other things and win? Boom you got a pretty sweet hand just like that). It's easy once you've played a few rounds.

Then learn the common Yaku.
Then the more complex Yaku.
Then you're ready to step into the world of Yakuman.

As for starting out, it's always dumb to go into deep water and try learning everything at once, you only end up hating the game and possibly quitting, most people do. That's why I recommend them to start easy and don't learn Yakuman until they're very comfortable with the game.

Even long before 0, starting with Yakuza 2 I could already tell there was more to Majima than meets the eye and that he mostly puts up the crazy redneck act to get others off his back.

I believe Kansai-ben is traditionally seen as rougher sounding than Tokyo-ben.

The rigid formalities of Tokyo-ben don't really fir his personality anyway.

5 is fun and has tons of content but Saejima's first half is pretty long (The prison segment is fine until you have to do the dream sequences) and Haruka's chapter dragons on quite a lot but your tolerance of this is totally dependent on if you like Haruka's substories or not.

Regarding Dead Souls, it's a fun game, it just has performance problems, really stupid problems like the hostesses requiring you to completely zone out to get dates which makes Jewel a pain in the ass to get to and having to do the Underground Subterranea like 7 times which is around 200 floors total, and constantly making you take long paths around the Quarantine Zone to get to places you want, and the gameplay is very clunky to the point that manual aiming isn't worth it and auto-aiming (Running around mashing R1 in the general direction of a zombie) is by far the better option.

You don't have to speak nip to perceive the differences between Kiryu and Majima's speech. Being a weeb does help though

It's shit because of enemies being literally fucking everywhere and pedestrians suddenly having wall priority and repeatedly spawning and blocking your attempts to escape them. Even without enemies it is a slog to get through cramped areas sometimes because of NPCs blocking your path. Not to mention there being areas where fights will just randomly start and it gets incredibly tiresome. Getting the item that removes encounters makes the game much more playable.

Also fuck Park and fuck the game for trying to make her sympathetic.

It's a remake that will be extremely unfaithful and will run on the GODAWFUL Yakuza 6 engine.
Do yourself a favour and play Yakuza 2, the original, because it's a major improvement over Yakuza 1 in every way and basically the only things that 3 and later entries brought to the table over Yakuza 2 are real time camera angles that aren't fixed and combat styles (introduced in 0).
Other than that, all games since Y2 play basically the same.

My recommendation as a total mahjong noob who got through all mahjong cp in 7 hours.
game settings, copied from a guide

Game Style - Really up to your personal preference. Quarter Game means the individual games will be shorter, making it easier capitalize on very solid rounds for the 10.000.000.
Kuitan - On, as this will allow you to get the All Simples bonus even if you've stolen tiles.
Two Han Minimum - Off, as the minimum doesn't take dora into account and might lock you out of a good hand.
Red Dora - On. This is the most important rule as it will replace 4 of the number 5 tiles with red versions of themselves, each of which acts like a Dora tile. Exploiting these tiles on top of the regular Dora tiles is a good way to aim for the Haneman you need.

Try to go for the following hands.

All simples (preferably without stealing so you can riichi and possibly riichi ippatsu)
for this hand keep throwing away 1s 9s and special tiles

If you start a round and are close to having three special tiles go for three more triplets of any kind and 1 pair

These two hands are simple to get and should be enough to atleast force second place at the 2.5million table.

Sometimes you get lucky and are able to go with high stuff like 7 pairs or even a full straight these are very obvious hands and you'll notice for yourself when to go for it.

The pedestrians suddenly becoming walls is annoying, definitely, but enemy spawn rates aren't that bad outside of Sotenbori and you can easily make wide sweeps to avoid them. Plus you can just hold R1/L1 and walk past ones you don't want to encounter. The only enemies that can always catch you are Victory Road encounters, fat guys can be triggers right next to them and you can escape, and as long as you only trigger the normal guys at about two body lengths away you're fine.

Dumb faggot they are simply new to that engine. Yakuza Kwami 2 will be great.

The devs even explicitly admitted that the engine is subpar and that's why they're using 0/Ishin/Kiwami engine for Hokuto no Ken game, since Y6 engine couldn't do it justice.

I did, a lot of the spawns happen around the massive junctions which you can easily just run past, and while a lot do spawn on corners if you really need to avoid them just walk past them. Not to mention in Saejima's chapter there's those red stop signs that you rip out of the ground that two-shot every mook in the area so unless you get caught in the streets in the direct center of the map or the upper building streets right before the snowy streets you can end any encounter in two attacks.

Is a speedrun of legend in 0 viable without unlocking the extra abillities that unlock through canaret and real estate?

I am not worried with majima as he is OP with breaker but kiryu has some very annoying bossfights.
