Continuation of the Colors and Generations style

Why the fuck is this game getting so much shit? Especially the reddit circlejerks against it like holy shit

There is no pleasing Sonicfags no matter what you do

For starters, level design looks worse than the previous two games.
The new avatar gameplay looks really boring.
Only three zones shown, one is Green Hill.
Music has some shit tracks like the new Metal Sonic remix
Tone looks inconsistent as fuck, one trailer is "I AM INFINITE, I WILL TEACH YOU PAIN" and one is "WOOO, TEAMWORK!"

The level design here looks to be way inferior to Colours and Generations, plus enough time has passed between those games that people aren't as fond of those games as much as they used to be.

Also the story looks to be retarded and Classic Sonic has just been shoved in again when they really didn't need to bother. That also looks worse than the Classic stages in Generations, and they still don't seem to have bothered with the physics, which is kind of important for a supposed Classic style method of play.

1. I can sort of agree on that, but keep in mind that that Shadow stage is most likely just a test stage, same goes for the Classic Sonic one
2. 100% agree
3. So? They're just not spoiling anything.
4. Yeah, but some good tracks too like Park Avenue and the new biolizard remix
5.It may look more consistent and connected once the game is out and the missing pieces are there

You conveniently forgot that level design so far looks way worse compared to the other boost games, and the OC gameplay seems boring as well.
I wanted to be hyped for forces but since they showed the classic gameplay I knew it was beyond salvation, then we got the whole cringefest.
The OC was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Forces looks tangibly worse than Colors and Generations. I would be more interested in the continuation of the boost formula if they had any desire to improve or expand upon it, but they don't. The setting, premise, art direction, music, and even the UI design look like hot fucking garbage, so even if the gameplay itself is just as good as it was in Generations, I'm not about to get invested in "Generations, again, but it plays the same, and everything else is worse". And even as somebody who likes the dumb Adventure stories, this one looks fucking terrible.

The level design does look bad, but we've only seen what 3 stages? Honestly, I don't even believe that the Classic Sonic gameplay we saw is actually in the game. It's probably a test stage, same goes for the Shadow level.

I'm just curious if the level design is better in later levels, like with Generations

Colors sucked, generations sucked. Sonic adventure 2 is 3d sonic done right.

You're delusional if you think anything they've shown is a test level.

Think about it for a second. It makes no sense whatsover that Shadow would be in fucking green hill zone. Not only that, his gameplay was fully 2D. It makes sense to me that they were using Green Hill as a base to show off gameplay and not spoil the future stages.

These. Looks more like a step back than a step forward. The Avatar gameplay looks incredibly shallow, essentially being a boostless modern Sonic with a "press whatever to awesome/clear these horribly placed and not actually threatening enemies." Classic Sonic is obviously shoehorned in and looks to have little if any involvement in the main story with the exception of having brought the Phantom Ruby with from Mania.
tl;dr it'll probably just be another mediocre Sonic game

They've barely shown any stages as it is. If they're so worried that showing one actually complete stage would be too much of a spoiler, then they must not have much to show.

It doesn't make sense for ANYBODY to be in Green Hill AT ALL. He's in a recycled stage because he's a free DLC side-story campaign that doesn't matter at all, and the level design reflects that. Why would they release footage that makes their game look even shittier if they could avoid it? What's to gain from that? Why wouldn't they have a real stage to show when the game comes out in a couple of months? What is the point of showing people footage and hoping they just ignore the LEVEL in a PLATFORMER? That's the only fucking thing I care about when I look at footage for a Sonic game. You showed me footage of a fake level that isn't in the game? Congratulations, you've shown me nothing.

His gameplay was 2D because these stupid fuckers use their half-assed 2D gameplay as a level design crutch at every opportunity.

>Colours and Generations
>Good
kek

Take off your nostalgia goggles. Sonic Adventure 2 sucked. Only the Sonic and Shadow levels were any good, and even then not all of them. 2D Sonic is the only Sonic that's ever been done right.

the boost is fucking broken
youtube.com/watch?v=-2zMOqttisw

>Boosting in the air gives you extra height on startup
Did it always do that? If not, that's a cool addition. It looks slower and a bit more loose to control too. It'd be cool to see levels actually make use of that instead of being a fucking hallway. The speedrun was cool though I guess.

AIBO!

I FUCKING HATE WISPS STOP BRINGING THEM BACK IIZUKA

>Colors
>good
I love long 3D hallways and Dimps-tier 2D sections.

>Going on reddit

...

Because Forces looks like shit compared to Colors and Generations, more so Generations though, you fucking blind retard.

I hate the way Sonic controls in the 2D portions for Colours and Generations.

They really just need Sonic Lost World movement with momentum.

Take off your nostalgia goggles. Sonic 1 and CD sucked. Only the Sonic 2 and 3K levels were any good, and even then not all of them. Sonic R is the only Sonic that's ever been done right.

This reminds me of Sonic Adventure with just how fucking stupid the gameplay is.

Colors was good because it went for a completely different approach, making most of the 2D stuff more like a simple puzzle platformer and doing interesting gimmicks with the speed oriented stages. It's really not like any other Sonic game and has quite a bit of content.

Generations was strong on nostalgia and was short as he'll. The Classic sections were mostly mediocre.

Forces seems to have worse level design than Generations so far and hasn't fixed Classic Sonic at all despite it being like six years. That and the confusing air of seriousness makes people anxious/dismissive.

SA1 was jank, but a decent representation of S3K in 3D. Its problems were mostly in presentation, repetition and basic planning.

Hoobastank Anime Theme Song about being a broski

This game is going to last 4-5 hours at best right?

Garbage shovelware

That's not a picture of Forces, user.

Because it LOOKS like shit.

C'mon, obviously a test stage. Why tf would Shadow be in Green Hill with the Biolizard theme playing

Is this made in Unity? It looks like something from /agdg/.

>Judging level design by making a webm of the end of the stage where it starts to slow down.

Stay delusional. When in the fuck has Sega ever advertised a Sonic game with test levels, let alone this close to release.

This looks worse than that Sonic Heroes game that the one dude posted on /agdg/.

How the fuck does Mania end up looking better, as a 16-32 bit game, while this game looks like hot dogshit, even with a budget?

Oh wait, Sega is incompetent, almost forgot.

And the rest of the level is just mashing the jump button because it's nothing but homing attacks.

youtube.com/watch?v=Kr1HBT0zzYc

>hooters japan

nani?

No, it obviously isn't. They wouldn't use a test stage to show off gameplay.

The first four I agree with as far as it looking worse than generations; but then again generations also had utterly shit starting levels, so it's really hard to say. I'd say colors was worse than this level design wise though.

The last one I can't really agree with since infinite's edgyness + the teamwork theme is really just standard shounen stuff, which is what this looks like its trying to emulate. It looks to be a kid friendly "serious plot with stakes" kinda like you'd see in digimon or dragonball. Which I can really dig.

In 2D homing attacks shouldn't lock on, it's just so OP otherwise.

SA1's core gameplay's actually most excellent for pretty much every character aside Amy (who had a good gameplay style, playing like sonic with greater vertical mobility but lower speed which would give the potential for a greater emphasis on vertical platforming, but was bogged down by her lack of stages and her ground speed being a tad too slow). The game as a whole was really just bogged down by being an advertisement for the Dreamcast's capabilities with stuff like big's fishing and gamma's shooting, which were competent in themselves but fairly simple and short (gamma's story is about an hour long and big's is 20 minutes) as expected of something designed as a demo for the dreamcast.

>test stage
>two days later and you're still giving me the opportunity to call you a retard
Retard.

I though colors and generations were both disappointing. Especially generations. Felt like the game was over before it began.

I liked gens, but yeah it was lacking in stages. Colors bored the shit out of me though.

I still don't understand why they don't try to just optimize on the sonic/shadow gameplay from adventure; even to this day, people enjoy the fuck out of those and based on the level designs in SA1 and SA2 compared to the ones from Unleashed-Generations, it feels like they had a lot more flexibility in what you could do with the level design when using the adventure style as opposed to boost style.

More 2d levels than 3d levels already knocks a couple points off, in my opinion. At least we're getting fanservice like playable shadow. Maybe we'll even get dlc level packs this time.

Sonic is never going to get a good game because Sonic games are inherently shit.

False!

Freedom Planet and Sonic Mania shows that good Sonic gameplay can be achieved, it's just that Sega doesn't know what the fuck they're doing and confuse "innovation and uniqueness" with actual quality.

That literally looks fanmade, like it was made in a shitty prepackaged level editor with generic geometry pieces.

t. retarded game journo

don't bother responding, you can't get a shitposter to stop shitposting

Truly, the dark souls of physics based platforming.

What the fuck is going through a reviewers brain as they're doing this?

>>continuation of the Colors and Generations style
>>both games of which were praised and actually good

Except they fucking weren't, the parts with classic Sonic were ok but nuSonic levels were irredeemable dogshit like always.

You've got it backwards. The boost levels were the best they've ever been and were generally praised, while the 2D sections, considered the best parts of the games on release, are now seen for what they really are - Genesis Sonic, except watered down and with shittier physics.

>classic Sonic were ok
Wrong, you retard.

youtube.com/watch?v=R16IBC_kD5o

Sonic 3 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles were great, but Sonic CD is one of the best Sonic games.

Fuck off.

No you apes, the levels where it's 2.5d and you play as classic sonic.

Watch the video, you mongoloid because that's exactly what I'm talking about. Take your """classic""" Sonic and shove it back your own ass.

>the user insisting that half the game footage we've seen is "test levels"
Are the people who are looking forward to Forces this delusional?

>There's over 10 modern stages
>They've only shown one so far and there's only one month left

Fucking Sonic Mania had around like 7/8 stage reveals by now. What the fuck are they doing? Sega was never this bad for marketing.

Did you have any doubt about that?
There are also legit creeps and furries, too.

Apparently not if even Hooters can't get a girl with capable tits.

This. Even when playing Generations the first time, the only levels I ever had an urge to replay were the boost levels (specifically Sky Sanctuary through Rooftop Run) since the "classic sonic" levels weren't anything actually like classic sonic in terms of physics or level design and ultimately were okay, but really quite forgettable otherwise.

>oh yeah but this ones bad because sonic mania

It's bad because it looks like the level design took a massive nosedive, even the main Park Avenue stage looks like it has less going on than Green Hill Gens.
Instead of improving anything about the two playstyles that were already there they've tacked on a dollar store version of Ratchet and Clank.

We forgave the flaws of Colors and Generations because we considered them steps in the right direction. We didn't anticipate Sonic Team would be dumb enough to completely change the gameplay again in the next entry or that we'd be waiting six years for the next boost game. Now it looks like there have been little to no improvements made. Not to mention we have a third gameplay type that looks jankier than the last. Lastly, just because we can enjoy the stories ironically now, doesn't mean this direction was ever a good idea.

That's to be expected, since it's directed by the guy who directed colors; which featured far more blocky and stilted level design than Unleashed which came a year before it.

Because colors was fresh and generations had the appeal of nostalgia. This game, rather than doing anything new, is just doing the shitty Colors/generations modern sonic floaty-ass controls and banking on classic sonic again even though he doesn't fit in at all because generations was their one hit. Plus the OC levels are all decentralized in design because of how many abilities they can have. Just looks boring

Eh, I'd say the shounen style plot is inherently a more engaging idea than the style of "comedy" they've been toying with since colors. That shit's just fucking abhorrent.

Why are they still making these samey looking, shit games that only retards like? I don't want corridor stages where I can barely move left or right. I don't want braindead 2D sections where you have to use fundamentally unfun mechanics to move around.

We're not quite at the Sonic 06 level yet, but I'd honestly rather play Heroes than this shit, and I fucking HATED heroes. Does nobody at sega have any balls anymore? Do something new.

Yeah, one thing I can say about sonic from 98-2008 is that while the ideas were generally unpolished and really rather random aside the sonic/shadow stages in adventure 1 & 2, there was a genuine effort to inject new creative gameplay ideas with almost every single game. It failed more than it worked due to an obvious lack of polish in most cases, but the heart was there.

My impression based on how short some levels are it's that by Stages they mean actual locations, Like Green Hill, Avenue Park, etc

While as for levels, it'll be like Colors, where each stage has like 5 to 7 stages, which i guess this game would call "Missions".
And just like in Colors, there'll be a level that's clearly the main, big one, with tons of varying paths (I guess Act 1 of each stage?) and the rest will be mini-stages with some bosses along the way.

Like the Pyramid Valley tag gameplay mission we saw, that really looks like just the "start" of the stage, i doubt they'd make a level based on a mechanical pyramid and have it just be jumping on gears for 30 seconds until you're done.

death of sonic team fucking when

>move forward, and occasionally press 1 button to just boost over all the content
uh, sonictards?

I thought Mania was pretty shit, but compared to this, it's a fucking masterpiece. I gave up on Sonic after 06, why can't they put any effort into the games now? It's all just glorified cutscenes where you hold forward or mash jump, like they saw the couple of loops in the Adventure games and thought "okay, this is all the game needs".

What happened to levels with branching paths? What happened to bottomless pits wider than a foot, what happened to goofy mechanics like grinding to break up the monotony? What happened to puzzles, what happened to precise movement, what happened to physics that weren't THIS janky, what happened to every single person working at this 2-bit husk of a studio?

>Colors
Was garbage because I wanted to play a Unleashed sequel that was a 3D SONIC GAME. Not 80% 2D shit that doesn't even play like Mania/Classics. Gens would have been better, if, again, NO TWO DEE SHIT. I'll play Taxman's games, not Sonic Team/Dimps """physics""" based gameplay. Waste of fucking time.

Now, that's not getting into the fact Forces is all the bad parts of Post-Adventure Era Sonic where the cohesion of Sonic's plots just don't blend with a fucking cartoon hedgehog. Unleashed outside of Dark Gaia, works perfectly with Sonic. But it would just be better if they just stuck to S3&K/Mania story telling and, you know, make PROPER, PHYSICS based gameplay first. If Gaijins can do it better, FANS can do it better for both 2D and 3D Sonic games, then you are just retarded other wise, Iizuka.

i like metal sonic's remix
youtube.com/watch?v=NhwBpAQnYvs

I remember when I played Modern Day Unleashed and tried doing this on Roof Top Run, can't. You lose your boost if you're airborne for too long. Seems like they removed that part of boost.

This comes off looking more like Rush when you see the 2D sections, for some reason.

>Almost 1 month away from release and they have still only shown the first two zones, one of which had been shown all the way back in 2016 in the reveal trailer, and the other is just Green Hill again
>Nothing new at TGS, Forces' last big event before launch
>The faggots at SoA STILL haven't uploaded the one music track everyone wanted
What a disaster. What the fuck is SEGA thinking with this marketing? Is there something happening behind the scenes?

I only have qualms with it because of Iizuka's recent interview.
He actually thinks these obscenely linear levels are an improvement over the Adventure series. Either that, or he's making the most stupid excuse to avoid having to actually work in level design/decent controls.
It looks like Generations, but with a tacked on gimmick. I don't care about the OCs, but I can see how people think it's a stupid idea.

What I really hate is that the characters WON'T STOP TALKING. WHY IS IT SUDDENLY NECESSARY FOR EVERYONE TO TALK CONSTANTLY? For fuck's sake, this is worse than Sonic Heroes.

Mania showed off a nice amount of levels yet still had plenty of surprises in store. Mario Odyssey has shown off a lot and there's still mystery surrounding it. I'm guessing Forces is going to be a short game.

new oc on twitter
twitter.com/SONIC_FORCES_JP

Sonic games are always short. You can't have that style of gameplay and have a ten hour game.

Sonic Team needs to get their priorities straight. And stop being faggots.

...

Those eyes look like she just did a line of coke cut with pixie dust.

What a Con Man. Seriously, why are people defending that hack but rightfully bitch at that fag who made Mighty No.9? Are they just underaged?

>You realize this is what Sega thinks of Shadow/SA2 fans, being a starry-eyed cat girl
Hilarious.

>Biolizard remix
WHAT

It's a continuation without improvement. The footage they've shown so far is 3D segments that have been dumbed down even further than Generations and 2D sections with flat level design and wonky controls. The big new gimmick, Avatar mode, looks unpolished as hell so it doesn't even have that going for it. Not to mention that the game's visuals look worse than Sonic Unleashed, a game released a decade ago. They brought back Classic Sonic again who seems to serve no real purpose on the story and he's only there just because. His sections seems like a complete downgrade from his Generations appearance in terms of visuals, music, and level design. There's also the fact that it's directed by the Sonic 06 guy and it shows with the tone. Sonic 06 was more interested in the idea of delivering a story than an actual game.

The whole game looks like a bootleg rip off of Sonic Generations. For a game on new hardware, years of experience behind it, and supposedly a wrong dev cycle (I don't buy the fact that people believe this game was in development for 4 years), the game just looks like a major disappointment.

He isn't a hack, he stuck around with the franchise for a very long time. I can't vouch for Megaman's case, though he is an oldie as well
I guess he just has some encephalopathy. He sure looks the part.

I don't but your logic here at all. Big and Gamma were essentially easy to make padding that wouldn't eat any development time. The levels were already made for other characters and they could easily repurpose them for another game mode. There is nothing present in either of the modes that are headline material that shows the power of the Dreamcast. That's all done in the Sonic and Knuckles stories. Sonic with the blazing speeds and Knuckles giving players the ability to explore the same levels Sonic just zoomed past.

Sonic Adventure was essentially a tech demo, yes, but so are most major first party games that were launched with a console. But like most games, Sonic Adventure was a game first, not purely a tech demo. It wasn't bogged down by that line of thinking at all.

But
>wisps

Unlike Inafune, Iizuka was actually involved in the development of the games instead of being an illustrator on the side lines.

Based Aaron subtly saving the series.

>Colors
>Generations
>Forces
Why are they all like 70% 2D sections? Even something like 20% would be tolerable but that's still an insane amount, if I buy a 3D game I want 3D to be the rule, not the exception. And forces looks like 80% 3D thanks to the OC levels splitting things up. Not getting Forces.

>Sonic R is the only Sonic that's ever been done right.

this is a joke post right?

Only brainlets don't like Sonic CD.
