>Review bombs, for the uninitiated, are when a mob descends on Steam to leave a flood of poor reviews - often accompanied by a grossly offensive comment - on a game whose developer has done something to raise their hackles. The most recent example was the review-bombing of Firewatch after its developers demanded PewDiePie remove videos of the game following his latest racist "slip of the tongue", but dozens of developers have been targeted for this kind of treatment, often simply for the sin of being female or a minority, or for in some way otherwise upsetting the denizens of Reddit and Sup Forums. >Ultimately, though, the work Blizzard is doing on Overwatch - and that other companies that genuinely care about this issue, such as League of Legends creator Riot, are doing on their games - is about people, not algorithms. Clever design and good code gets you so far in managing human behaviour >Valve absolutely knows it could fix this issue with tighter rules, more human supervision and, yes, some better algorithms to report back to those supervisors; it just doesn't want to do that, because that's not its philosophy. >Valve's critics don't pile on the company out of dislike, but out of disappointment at seeing such a vital part of the industry go to seed; if the company is really serious about fixing these issues, we'd suggest that a good first step would be to put down the graphs and see if maybe Blizzard is free for a chat on the phone.
Well?

Cameron Rivera
>often simply for the sin of being female or a minority I feel like this shit wasn't as big a deal a decade ago, but race/gender differences are being egged on for some reason.
Isaiah Edwards
how long until valve start banning people that give negative reviews because they are "toxic"? they certainly could get away with it
Adam Taylor
>>Ultimately, though, the work Blizzard is doing on Overwatch - and that other companies that genuinely care about this issue, such as League of Legends creator Riot, are doing on their games - is about people, not algorithms. Clever design and good code gets you so far in managing human behaviour
Blizzard doesn't even have a user game review system - what the fuck is this faggot talking about?
Logan Martin
>people are allowed to leave the reviews they want >this is bad
Luke White
on steam its a good thing do you even realize how few ways we have to even let them know we dont like what they are doing?
Easton Hall
so this is the power of e-celebs... Wow... WHERE ARE THE VIDEO GAMES
Jason Jackson
I don't see threads coordinating review bombs, must be a reddit thing
Joshua Long
This.
Adrian Williams
valve is doing things correctly. game junors are all such fucking cancer.
Connor White
Should I make something to eat now or wait until later?
Kevin Kelly
>for some reason
Do I really need to say it?
Anthony Howard
This. It pisses me off when someone makes a shitty game, and when it gets the shitty reviews it deserves, the creator immediately latches onto sexism or racism instead of just admitting their game is terrible.
Ethan Brown
gaben is king
Samuel Turner
Their comparing the in-game blizzard reporting upgrades to valves review monitoring. Apples and oranges.
Luke Collins
The problem is that Review bombing is sometimes a really good thing. Look at fallout 4 after the creation club fiasco. There are times in which the community needs a place to show their outrage when devolperers or publishers do something horrendous.
Justin Brooks
They stated that trying to fix/curate all the shit reviews is pointless because the games gravitate back to their original rating % over time anyway. So they just made what's happening more easily visible instead.
Austin Carter
Your rights end where my feelings begin, you fucking white male pedophile.
Adrian Morris
That doesn't even make any fucking sense then what the fuck
And then faggots on Sup Forums will pretend Gamergate wasn't in the right
Justin Campbell
NAGGER
Mason White

Do it now, user, or else you'll just keep putting it off. You need to eat regularly to stay healthy, so take care of yourself!

What games other than maybe Depression Quest were flooded with bad reviews just because it was developed by a woman or a minority?
Gabriel Carter
>so far in managing human behaviour
They arent even trying to hide it anymore.
Landon Gonzalez
Have you considered not doing things that will piss off large swaths of people if you don't want to get review bombed.
There's a reason that the CEO of ford doesn't go around weighing his opinion on every political matter, for example.
Charles Robinson
Fucking this. They just use that sexism/racism shit as an excuse!
Angel Parker
can we have another video games market crash please?
Aaron Jackson
>>Valve's critics don't pile on the company out of dislike, but out of disappointment at seeing such a vital part of the industry go to seed; if the company is really serious about fixing these issues, we'd suggest that a good first step would be to put down the graphs and see if maybe Blizzard is free for a chat on the phone.
Bunch of angry snowflakes and money hungry activists forgot to lube their arseholes when they went to read steam rewiews.
Sorry sweetie but Vavle respects freedom of speech!

>Clever design and good code >riot Excuse me?

Logan Smith
Even if it's fucking true who cares? They are USER reviews. Not critic reviews. Not publisher reviews. Not advertisements. If a user wants that to be his review then that is what it should be. Otherwise don't even have user reviews.
Mason Smith
>after its developers demanded PewDiePie remove videos of the game What a way to spin abusing DMCA forms.

im not autistic or gay enough to migrate to Blizzard. i'd rather hang myself

I'm so sick of this meme. If Riot hadn't started this armchair psychology bullshit people wouldn't be such thin-skinned fragile snowflakes these days.
Jack Young
The hacker known as Sup Forums is notorious my friend, and he works in the shadows. He colluded with Russia to hack the election, makes images of the hate symbol known as Pepe the Frog, and harasses innocent female game developers. He is a menace that must be stopped at all costs.
Evan Reed
Thanks mom!
Brody Roberts
review for new AC >0/10 >WE
yep, this is exactly what the review system was intended for, and this is a valuable consideration that users should take before purchasing the game
Owen Lewis
This has to be some meta end game satire right? No one actually believes that Riot is a good game company right?
Nathaniel Richardson
league and overwatch both have one thing in common
I don't play them or spend money on them if steam was to take the same steps those devs have to create a safe space I would stop playing and paying
Jonathan Young
>muh harassments >muh minorities yawn
same old shit
Ian Sanchez
>mfw I call people niggers, faggots, gaylords, gaywads, etc and even votekick bad players in Left 4 Dead 2 >I have never been banned
I laugh at anyone that has paid to cuck themselves when they get banned in Friday the 13th or Overwatch
Aiden Smith
They wouldn't do it. Valve at most would ban certain people from reviewing products or from reviewing and posting on the forums of particular products. Valve doesn't like doing complete permanent bans unless you're doing chargebacks and fucking with their money. They like having as many customers as they can. Most bans on Steam are being banned from one of thousands of forums or being VAC banned.
Isaac Wright
>say two letters >HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP MINORITIES ARE UNDER ATTACK

I'm black, faggot. Now prep me an I might fuck your wife.
Aaron Baker
User reviews have become a threat to game devs and the journalists they collude with, expect more attacks
Jack Scott
cool, you're just one out of millions literally nobody cares about what you do :)

Aaron Jones

I wonder who behind that article
Josiah Martinez
It took a while but Fallout 4 finally reached mixed reviews, how long until Todd kills himself?
Levi Williams
>The most recent example was the review-bombing of Firewatch after its developers demanded PewDiePie remove videos of the game following his latest racist "slip of the tongue"
I love how they're rewording it as if the dev didn't do an undeserved DMCA because pdp hurt their feelings.
Kevin Jackson
Holy shit thank god i have not played a single Blizzard game since. Cataclysm they are full of SJW.
Jaxon Lee
If you're dumb enough not to recognize ebin memes reviews, ignore them and read a review that seems a bit more legit, then I don't know what to tell you.
Brayden Anderson
Shitty reviews like this get rated low and rarely appear on the front page. The reviews I normally see with 70+% ratings are long, well thought out reviews, with one or two joke reviews thrown in. These articles forget that the reviews can also be rated on Steam.
Wyatt Rivera
>waa mommy people say mean thing in online game! pathetic

It's OK when SJWs do it.
Owen Brooks
SJW losers are mad they have no authority at valve and can't game the system like they can in the journo clique and force companies to conform to their bullshit through shaming.
This is nothing more than a power play by the journos.
Carson Cox
>NOOOO STOP YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO USE THOSE TWO LETTERS
Jonathan Lopez
What the fuck is he even saying
Blake Adams
so which mod are you? I_AM_ABIB? ALTERNATIVE?
Josiah Martin
That's one hairy jew
Ian Ramirez
Honestly wouldn't even care about the creation club if it didn't bloat Fallout 4 with all of the ba2 files of the mods in it and also didn't update the exe every time they throw some recolor schlop on it.
Daniel Anderson
Pretty much this. All the SJW BS is mostly smokescreen, it's more about trying to silence user dissent, regardless of the reasons. Corporations hate this kind of critical freedom.
Bentley Edwards
>often accompanied by a grossly offensive comment >his latest racist "slip of the tongue" >often simply for the sin of being female or a minority Why are leftists completely incapable of writing objectively and without injecting their opinions?

I think the reason for the quotes there was to air quote sarcasm.
Jacob Cox
I'm a pretty average guy if I'm thinking it I'm not the only one
league will continue on because it's free but steam will be fucked trying to get anybody to actually give them money and still put up with crap
Benjamin Rogers
>>Ultimately, though, the work Blizzard is doing on Overwatch - and that other companies that genuinely care about this issue, such as League of Legends creator Riot, are doing on their games - is about people, not algorithms. Clever design and good code gets you so far in managing human behaviour
Okay, I shouldn't even comment on this shitty journalism, but this actually pisses me off.
I've been playing TF2 for almost 10 fucking years and the absolute most "toxic" it got was kicking F2P's out of a server and some fucks spamming Mien Kampf quotes in chat. Other than that, TF2 is one of the most friendly games on the market right now. All it needed was a votekick system and the ability for adults to govern themselves and you have a community of caring, genuinely interesting people who care about the game.
Now, on the otherhand, Overwatch has been having problems with its fanbase since its launch. Despite the fact that the shiteaters at Blizz need to go out of their way to add wordfilters, the game is STILL filled with rude pieces of shit who yell at women for no reason, throw tempertantrums over people not picking the character THEY want, and piss their pants over people not being in their rank. Instead of these people making content FOR A GAME THAT ACTUALLY NEEDS CONTENT, the lazy cunts behind the game trying to find "cool" ways to get people to stop saying nigger in video games while blaming their own playerbase for not trying to make it better.
No, its not "Clever design and good code", if not making a game because you're getting to much report is clever than the YandereSim fucker must be the next Miyamoto. Nothing about not even having a report system on console is not clever or good coding, its laziness from a studio who only wanted to make a cashgrab instead of a game
Jace Parker
right, but the people that make those comments should be warned and then banned upon doing the same shit. that being said review-bombing in general like with paid mods fiasco is alright, as long as youre not one of these 13 yos crying over pewdiepieso you admit its faggots being triggered? alright, then man up and tell valve all about how youre a crying bitch, and then thats actually a useful review to someone
Andrew Roberts
You're such a fucking baby. Stop giving liberals a bad name.
Ayden Price
>"This is the crux; the problem is not technological, it's philosophical. Valve clearly has a strong philosophy and political standpoint about how online services should work and about how the freedom of users (including users who haven't actually bought a game but still want to give it a 1-star review and call its creator a variety of colourful names) should be balanced against the protection of creators' livelihoods."
You can't give a steam review of a game without owning it in your library, can you?
Landon Brown
e-celebs were a mistake. I just want to go back to pre-y2k online before all this retarded social networking shit and e-drama.
Andrew Watson
Don't act like Steam/Valve are heroes, they had to be dragged kicking and screaming into courts to add the refund system.
Anyone that implicitly trusts or likes a corporation is a faggot.
Jeremiah Howard
you are here 24/7 shilling and astroturfing for corporate control (let's plays are fair use, piracy, bans for toxicity etc)
and when the thread doesnt go your way you delete it. so which mod are you?
Caleb Baker
who dis
Josiah Martinez
man what a fucking nigger
Nolan Campbell
>Don't act like Steam/Valve are heroes Oh, believe me, I'm not. Valve is one of the corporations I'm most easily butthurt by.
Isaac Young

Brody Perez
>right, but the people that make those comments should be warned and then banned upon doing the same shit. that being said review-bombing in general like with paid mods fiasco is alright, as long as youre not one of these 13 yos crying over pewdiepie
>thinking corporations will ever respect the distinction between genuine grievances over anti-consumerist practices and meme shitposting
wrongthink is wrongthink
Carson Baker
While I don't particularly care about PDP or this whole thing in general, it's pretty funny how this manufactured "controversy" has basically achieved nothing. The vast majority of his fans are kids who wisely don't give a shit about politics and the advertisers will be back when the storm passes. In fact as far as I'm aware he could keep doing what he's doing without them, isn't he made for life like a thousand times over already?
Nathan Howard
What a bunch of stupid fags I am pretty happy with they way Valve has done this
They respect the reaction the community has over the products, so they let the community do whatever they want
They give you the tools to know when this happens (there is a disclaimer when a review bomb happens), but they let you read everything
why? BECAUSE THE REVIEW BOMBING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
Charles Smith
Sauce me user
Carson Roberts
No
James Young
>protection of the creators' livelihoods Does it really say this? Why should we protect their livelihoods? If they're shit at their job and can't make a good game, let them burn.
James Clark
GIVE ME SOME OF THESE FUCKIN KIKE ALGORYTHMS RIOT
Grayson Lopez
>shit on your consumer or your consumers interest >get shit on in return
This pattern works in reverse too where people will support an upcoming small studio that tries hard and likes its audience too.
I think companies are still pissed that their consumers now have a voice and adverts can no longer make people believe lead in paint is a good thing or they can get called out when we find out they support something we hate. Imagine if the internet was around years ago Kelloggs may not have convinced people to chop off dicks.
Caleb Green
Its too bad the MOBA market is basically full of addicts stuck to the one game they play. I feel like a post-apocalyptic MOBA called "Toxic" or "Toxicity", with like the Fallout green puddles of radioactive goo, and no chat moderation whatsoever outside of muting would be a cool concept. Steal the defunct 'prefer/avoid' function from Overwatch, but make avoiding someone prefer to matchmake that person AGAINST you instead of avoiding them entirely. So you'd only use it on baddies so you wouldn't get teamed with them.
Could be neat. Not a MOBA guy though.
Oliver Smith
I think the idea is that if you centralize all servers under the developer he's also now responsible for punishment and controlling people's behavior since the community can't self-regulate anymore. So all that's left is pissing and crying at the dev to punish people that hurt their fee fees and the devs ineffectually trying to deal with offenders on a large scale and rarely punishing single persons.
Shit sucks.
Samuel Smith
Ai Shinozaki
Also The steam forums aren't Sup Forums. You can't just shitpost endlessly, you will get banned.
Connor Hughes
>200$ sent to your paypal nice!
Samuel Morales
Did this guy seriously just praise Riot's Tribunal system? It's fucking terrible. Easily one of the worst things to ever come out of that trash-heap.
Wyatt Price
(cont) review bombing is not an issue IT IS A REALITY, and it happens because people are not happy
here, take a look at this beauty. I find pretty honest that there was a review bomb when pubg announced further jewing, instead of patches
it is not an issue: it is people saying their opinion fuck you, journos
Noah Carter
Reviews are stupid, just buy the game and if you don't like it after an hour refund it.
Brody Hall
Also diamonds wouldn't be worth shit
(notice how stupid shit like this is spread only by Americans?)
Aaron Wright
>are you swedish That's harsh.

who is this donald bogeyman i keep hearing so much about does it have something to do with smelly niggers?
