Can someone explain why PUBG is the most popular game on the Earth right now?

Can someone explain why PUBG is the most popular game on the Earth right now?

Streamer bait

It's really fun

They have bots running around to inflate their numbers.

normies

Sounds like shit

millions of people decided to spend $30 just to piss you off, personally

It's not japanese.

Two things people care about on this planet really. Survival and reproduction. Money is just a tool to those two rewards.

A game that it all about surviving by yourself against many others and being the last one standing (alpha male instinct) is tantalizing to most human lifeforms.

imagine playing video games for something other than fun kek

It isn't, League still has more players. Then there's probably some Chinese only games that have way more players than that.

really casual friendly and has everyone start off on equal footing

Gambling.
Competitive nature.
Skins that make money.
People find it enjoyable to watch.

All factors that are sadly hot shit right now.

>League still has more players.
source?

It's the largest game in a critically underrepresented Genre.
when a larger company with more money and manpower rolls up with a battle royale game, PUBG will be a ghost town.

Riot doesn't tell people its numbers, so PUBG is the most popular until proven otherwise

>They have bots running around to inflate their numbers.
The last update made it way harder for bots to earn BP, if your just afk doing nothing you will get zero BP now.

>most popular game on the Earth

What? I don't think most gamers care about Steam. It's fairly popular among the PC crowd, but that's only a percentage of total gamers.

I have never once used Steam or purchased a game that includes a Steam backend. I have only a general idea of what PUBG is, and frankly do not know why, or care to know why, Sup Forums spends so much time shitting on it.

This guy gets it

name a video game with a higher player base

Twitch.

It's good for streaming, as I understand it. It's also a concept with wide appeal and you can easily just pick up the game and play.

It's not. League of legends is still the most popular game by far.

How would it be possible for anyone to collect such statistics? Not everything is online, and not every online game has a player counter.

You're giving a lot of undue weight to Steam and its impact on gamers worldwide. Again, not every gamer uses Steam.

It's a really fun game and I like watching summit play it

PUBG fanbase is horrible but I like the fact that a game focused only on gameplay (complain all you want about the bugs and flaws) is having success instead those shitty games with "stories" with the quality of a fanfic written by wannabe movie directors

>Can someone explain why PUBG is the most popular game on the Earth right now?

Luck mostly. kinda of a hard for people to understand but random happenstance often times is the biggest determinate as to if a thing becomes a huge hit or not.

>fun
>multiplayer
>lots of people online meaning fast queue times
>easy to pick up and play
>decent shooting mechanics
>addictive and satisfying gameplay

the game is still shallow as fuck but I can see the appeal

fpbp

hey thats pretty good

>plays pubg
>watches summit

This. Streamers have ruined gaming

It looks like it could be fun and it's a competitive game where you don't have a team full of faggots weighting you down.

People are tired of "team games" so they are happy to blow everyone's brains out and yell "nigger" in chat when they do.

Popular streamers are playing it
It's easy to get into
$30
Experience can vary wildly from game to game, which makes it kind of exciting

The only really surprising thing is that it's doing as well as it is while being a PC exclusive. People who never wanted to touch a PC for games are playing this, it's kind of nuts. Once it hits consoles it's either going to die a quick death from an overpopularity backlash or explode again and cause a big industry shift on the level of what CoD4 did back in 2007.

Why do normies have such shit taste?

Why is it always the terrible games that explode in popularity?

Raph Koster hyphotesis 20 years ago that the most appealing thing of games is that they allow us to express our inner caveman.

That's why people like games about murdering (like shooters) and games about resource gathering (like farmville). And that's why survible games are so popular (even when they are shit).

This.

VIDEOGAMES ARE PLAYED BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE IN LIFE YOU SIMPLE FOOL.

CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINAAAAAA NUMBA WAN! GUZAMOA YI GA CHAOI

So many fucking chinese fucks play this game and a good majority of them use cheats.

Game needs VAC and Region Lock.

Can someone explain why the MODS won't delete all the pubg shill threads constantly being made with the same image?

its just a well made survival game that's beginner and group friendly and encourages replay over and over again.

Twitch
Also it's kind of fun to be the very best out of 100

I wish it had better sound design. I hate being shot at and not being able to tell where it's coming from.

It's not. Tetris exists.
