Because melee is always more fun.
At best I might use a bow as a means of pulling from a range, but I've never played an RPG where being a pure archer felt more rewarding than clubbing peoples' heads in with a mace.

Elemental/summoner mage is better in every way.

is there anything besides tolkein that really connects elves to archery?

Archer has been the definitive class for self-absorbed faggots in just about every game I've touched.

Plus I think spellcasting is more fun.

because mages/wizards/sorcerers are more fun for ranged dps

I always do a first playthrough as a paladin/battlemage character. If that's not available I just go with regular fighter.

Only if I can use a gun.

Guns >>>>>>>>>>>>>>melee shitters > bows > magic and other useless healslut shit
