bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-25/sony-vs-nintendo-playstation-boss-sees-limited-handheld-market >“The Nintendo device is a hybrid device and that’s a different approach and strategy,” House said in an interview at last week’s Tokyo Game Show. “We have not seen that as being a huge market opportunity,” he said, referring to handheld gaming outside of Japan and Asia, where Sony still sells the Vita portable device. Well folks, i guess the Vita is Sony's swan song in the portable race.
How could anyone possibly believe otherwise? Smartphones and tablets have shrunk the market for handhelds significantly. Even going back to the PSP, Sony could never keep up with Nintendo in the handheld market, and now it's even more difficult.

Tons of people were convinced they were gonna announce a PSP3 to compete with Nintendo. Hell before their Tokyo Game Show people were predicting they'd announce it

Why did they patent this crap of they were never going to use it? It smells fishy for sure, but I still need to wait until PSX to the definite nail in the coffin. Sony is always prone to rushing head first into new territories, like Sega back in the 90's.

Well, those people were stupid. Not to say I wouldn't WANT them to be right, of course. I hate what smartphones have done to both gaming and society at large. When Sony talks about developing more games for phones, it's hard to believe that implies anything but an increase in hyper-casual microtransaction shit.
They also seemed to imply that a lot of games that would normally come to Vita would be moving to the Switch though, which is fine.

Mine's been collecting dust for years.
RIP Shita you won't be missed.

>Sony is prone to rush into new markets Nintendo has already ventured into with innovative new hardware while shamelessly copying said innovative hardware
