stop playing dota

1. Look up and memorize all of the hitbox and frame data for all moves for all characters.
2. Apply this knowledge across a great number of games until you instinctively employ it in high pressure situations.

Will I really improve noticeably if I memorize all of the frame data?

Yes you suck because you're getting hit by things you shouldn't get hit by and not working within the framework of the game.

you gotta have a conversation with your opponent. but it's like a really stressful annoying conversation where they keep asking and asking "do you know this? SURE YOU KNOW THIS? DO YOU KNOW THIS ANSWER NOW WITHOUT HESITATING WITHIN THE NEXT 5 FRAMES OF ANIMATION... hah, dumbass u didn't even know that, get combo'd scrub, im so fucking good".

You need a certain mentality when it comes to fighting games. You're going to lose a lot and have to learn from your mistakes.

Practice

if you understand how it works, yes. Fighting games are fundamentally based off of frame data interactions.

practice optimal combos off of every situation, both meterless, 1 bar, 2 bar and full investment, be aware of what your opponent is trying to do and be ready to defend against or counter it, know when to back off or press the offense.

I suck at fighting games but managed to hit ultra gold as Laura when the game first came out thanks to this oki guide.

No. At most you have to get a feel of what's punishable and what's not.

Not knowing where to put yourself in regards to your opponent is often a death sentence.
Leaving the opponent the chance to do what he wants puts you at a great disadvantage.
That's why footsies and adaptability is more important.

>That's why footsies and adaptability is more important.

Footsies is based on hitboxes and frame data. You cannont play in relation to your opponent without knowing both yours and their moves.

Don't get hit

Also, play a few different games. Fundamentals should carry over in most cases, but you might take better to a certain game.

Play Gief and then just be good at rock paper scissors.

Memorizing frame data is bullshit, mostly.
Regarding hitboxes: at most you have a few to look out for in neutral for each character.
Generally knowing what's minus and what's punishable is enough.

user asked if memorizing all of the frame data is gonna help him. And the straight answer is fucking hell no.

>memorizing frame data
Eventually you'll learn what your characters fastest and slowest moves are. It's never memorization so much as it is becoming aware of what to use situationally that will put you in an advantage and your opponent scrambling for options. Spacing comes into this too.

you have to use your brain and practice till your hand eye coordination is good. Find out the best characters/strategies and replicate them, the hardest part is to spontaneous react to random scenarios but your lucky as sf5 is really shit every scenario is pretty much a given and you don't have to think very hard. Other fighting games is another story and will take years of practice.

footsies and adaptability is based on frame data and not having a general idea of what is and isn't punishable or at least is minus is a straight ticket to lose town. It's why a lot of people can't deal with some characters because they don't play them enough or don't understand. Visual cues are often shit for anything like that

The straight answer is hell fucking yes. Fighting games are collections of interacting frame data.

did you just recently get street fighter 5 dude?
