Fuck it. I wanna Hun some Mons. Where should I start?

reddit

just wait for worlds

Don't even start because its a shit series with clunky slow gameplay, no autolock and switchaxe is indisputably the best weapon

It's the last on a console and it's the best in the series. From controls, diversity, range, monster design, environment design, sound design, number of quests, music and overall complete package of absolutely everything that makes mon hun great. Best guild girl, too, don't lie to yourselves.

Freedom unite

This user is completely right about everything, you can't argue with him I totally agree with this very handsome and smart user.

>want to play old: freedom unite
>want to play on console: 3U
>want to play on 3ds: 4U
>want to play the clunky old game on console: first game

Tri, P3, or FU on PC using Dolphin for Tri or PPSSPP for P3 or FU

Portable 3rd is emulatable with multiplayer, its easy as fuck too, but thats probably a good thing to get you into the series.

If you got a Wii U laying around, 3G is good, and if you got a 3DS, 4U and X are also options.

Patricians taste user

avoid tri and 3u, underwater combat is absolute cancer and isn't in any other games. no point in getting into mhgen/mhxx either unless you want to play anime hunter XD edition

MHFU is my personal favorite but an easier jumping in point for a babby hunter would be mhp3rd. you can emu the ps3 version with an english patch and it's gorgeous. 4U isn't a bad choice either even if the end game is pure shit, the gameplay will be most similar to what you'll get in MHW

I'll also add that my personal recommendation is freedom unite on the vita.
Truest way to enjoy FU

underrated post
vita mhfu is comfy as fuck

If you have a 3ds start with 4U, PSP I would say just go with Portable 3rd, neither wait for World

Don't be afraid to try Tri and 3U, underwater may seem daunting but once you get a hang of it you'll feel like an evolved hunter compared to those in this thread.

yeah nothing better than having half your weapons gone and having a tiny ass roster with some of the shittiest monsters in the series in it

3 ultimate was a decent starting point. started most of my buddies with that one and they eventually moved onto newer games. if you intend to do a lot of online tho then the only real answer is whatever game is newest

Tri has well over a hundred hours of content.
3U is Tri precisely with 19 billion times the content and it's still got an online community. And fuck you, it has the best monsters in the series.

Anyone complaining about underwater hunts are complete and total idiots, listening to them and their inability to cope is a waste of your time.

Monster Hunter World.

You all heard the music as soon as you saw it, didn't you?

I too, agree with this user's agreement and am in no way him at all.

>small roster full of original monsters that are given an entire game to shine on their own
>versus a bloated roster where the handful of original monsters are tossed aside for old rehashed shit, moreso at the endgame.

either grab 4U or wait for World

January 26, 2018.

Might as well start with the latest, designed for new players as they make a big push onto modern consoles, with all the QoL improvements.

I wish greatsword had a demon mode form.

Is MH4 a big game?

Lagiacrus is the best monster

>you feel it too, don't you?

i promise you i've put more hours into every monhun game than you have. i can certainly cope with underwater bullshit, doesn't mean it's not bullshit. i'm not saying it's difficult. i'm saying it feels shitty to play compared to standard hunting. they removed moves from movesets and halved the distance on ranged attacks for christ's sake.

i gave tri and 3u both far more time than they deserved. 3u at its core is great mechanically but has way too much wrong with it to thoroughly enjoy it compared to other options. 4u has a similar problem except it's all weighted towards the end (expeditions, relics, wystones) and overall has a better monster roster and new combos, along with much better weapon balance than 3u. or do i need to remind you about everyone spamming slime and kelbi bow?

and besides, 3u was the game that begun the end of hammer, 4u sealing the deal and gen/xx laughing at its corpse

>destroys the city

>I've played more monhun than you, dork
>I hate the most unique thing about its combat ever placed in any game, ever
>N-not because it's difficult!! It's because it's...it's just not as good as fighting on land! That's all!

Tri and 3U are the ultimates in this franchise. The combat was at its most coherent and simplest. Also its tightest and more satisfying. The monsters were brand new, unique and exceedingly fun to fight and learn. The armor looked great, as did the weapons. Underwater combat was engaging and no slower or more difficult than land combat - it was frankly easier for bowguns, a cinch for lances and made the environment for fighting a Lagiacrus for the first time absolutely heart-pounding.

And most of all, the atmosphere of Tri cannot be beaten in MonHun. From the title screen to the tavern, it's the comfiest "I wanna be there and do that" game in the series.

What went wrong?

>or do i need to remind you about everyone spamming slime and kelbi bow?
If you're gonna try and pin your opinion of 3U being an undeservedly praised game because you joined online hunts with nothing but Slime Kelbi Bows and got upset when someone wasn't, then you just invalidated anything of merit you tried to say.

Tri's moga woods seems...bigger somehow. A little more remote and exclusive. 3U's, aside from being clearly better quality in graphics, seems a little more alive and nature-y. I think I prefer that subtle aloofness and tone of tri to 3u, honestly.

>felt like starting up a new file in MH4U
>playing female for the first time
>now discovering all the skimpy female armour
daaaamn

>All this love for tri ITT
I'm so proud of you all. Loc Lac had the best online. That desert and sandstorms for events was the best.

You have excellent taste for agreeing with those TWO completely separate anons who clearly aren't the same person and I, yet another very different user, congratulate you on your superb taste and being a member of this huge, distinct group of anons who all recognize 3rd gen's greatness.

>shittiest monsters in the series
>implying -drome > -ggi
ha
heheh
no

You need to a 3DS to play the last real MH.

The series unfortunately is dead going forward

I always play female.
Always the same character even on MHS

Sadly, you can't start with the best game in the series.
Do P3rd and/or FU first, then play it.

>dead going forward
Yeah nah get fucked, 16 player hub towns is gonna be comfy as fuck and that's all I really need tbqhwyf.

Eh its a hard series to get into.
Id say 4u or gen. Or wait for gentoo.
4u is debatably the best game (3u is better due to having an actual controller imo but is a bitch to get through the tutorial without falling asleep and 4u has better/more content)
Gen is the easiest to get into but a lot of the mechanics in that game are crutches that will make playing mainline games hard. Plus its basically 60% of a game since no g rank.

Regardless, we can agree Moga Woods is no longer the same place we knew in Gen/XX
Especially with the bright saturation adding salt to the wound.

read op as Hun some Moms

Have money to spend?

Yes
Buy a 3ds and buy Monster Hunter 4U

I do but not much
Whait for Monster Hunter World

No
Play Monster Hunter Fredom Unite or Portable 3rd in psp emulator

>excited about 16 players
lol, quake team fortress had 32v32 matches in 1997

World is shaping up to be a hybrid of Dos/Tri in terms of what we are getting with a 4u-esque story.
it's going to be fucking incredible.

I admit though, it took World to finally appreciate what Tri has been trying to do for the main series all along.

What's the expectations for this game?
-will be hated by fans
-fun little spinoff that creates its own niche
-redefine monhun moving forward

i'm guessing you're a nostalgia fag who started on tri and loved 3u cause it's like tri.

>The combat was at its most coherent and simplest

the fuck? have you even play FU?

alright bud. i don't play online but whatever. here's why i think 3u is overpraised:

all the best weapons come from the same 3 monsters
all the final fights are boring mmo style lao shan style faggotry, save lucent and abyssal, one of which can be glitch farmed
locked charm tables
stupid fucking shakalakas
overtuned slime invalidates the need for elemental weapons
and regardless of your shitty opinion, i feel confident in saying the majority of monhun players would rather never have underwater combat again

there are things 3u did great. it started the fad of doing away with the farm and just putting in a duping npc. it had a free roam mode, deserted island is still my favorite area to this day, seconded maybe only by the new area in mhxx.
but to me there's better options, i've never had a desire to go back to 3u.

FU > p3rd > 4U > 3U > XX > X > mhf1 > tri > ps2

But that's not Monster Hunter.

...

fans will like it
normal people wont pay atention to it
Sup Forums and /vg/ will shitpost about it

Exactly as every mh since mh was a thing here

Play 4U and only use CB.

>FU > p3rd > 4U > 3U > XX > X > mhf1 > tri > ps2

If you seriously think that anything before 4U is better than 4U you are mentally handicapped.

I mean kind of get FU, there are still nostalfags who think FU is the best but 3rd? fucking really?

Dos>4u>p3rd>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the rest

3ds haters. just ignore it.

oh its because muh grafix
I get it now

fucking patetic doe

You must really like the vs arena to put Dos before anything.

If you have 3DS - just play 4U, which is both the most newb friendly and the best game in the series so far.
If not - then start with downloading PPSSPP and emulating FU and P3rd. FU is good, but a bit dated, though, so it might be hard to get into if you're used to more smoother gameplay.

verticality is so forced and gimmicky in 4u not all of us enjoy mount hunter. as retarded as X/XX is, it demonstrates a much less forced approach to level design to incorporate aerial combat

also i can play p3rd on my 60" with a controller and it looks fucking amazing

nice try but no i love my 3ds and vita both

>verticality is so forced

No its not, only one weapond use vertical attacks as it's main gimick and you can even compleatly ignore the verticality of it

And in the map aspect just a couple of maps have a couple of areas that fuck you in the ass with verticallity. And i'm talking about like 4 or 5 AREAS in total not even maps as a whole

>as retarded as X/XX is

Who is talking about those games? Im talking about 4u the objectively best game of the saga until now

Exactly why Tri is one of the perfect entries to start with, and absolutely not Freedom Unite.

P3rd emulates fabulously, looks great, and plays well. It's really the only option unless you have a Wii U or a Vita.

>imagine being this slant-eyed

that pic trigger me

Lagi and rath rare species are not realted with an ecosistem but with age. Abyss and metal raths are just really old lagis and raths

>graphix mean everything
okay, kiddo

user I dont think Monster Hunter is a game for you

How about you go and play the new and asome Call of Duty®: WWII or Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II in your Play Station 4 Pro™ or even better Xbox One X™

I think those games are better suited for a big boy like you

as a hammer lover i will always like the older games more, and i simply don't care for how bow evolved beyond p3rd/3u. bow was perfect in fu/p3rd/3u to me and 4u killed hammer

>overtuned slime invalidates the need for elemental weapons
Brisant Demolisher has shitall for purple sharpnes though

If you want the most modern, and can stand handheld, 4U. Generations is great, but there's no G rank and the hunter styles are completely irrelevant come World.

I hate that the most optimal way to play SA in literally every game is to button mash X in sword mode like a retard.

>underwater combat is cancer
fucking baby, just learn to control the camera properly

FU had hyperaggressive small monsters though

Why would anyone use a GL when Lance exists?
Why would anyone use a LBG when HBG exists?
Why would anyone use an SnS when CB exists?
Why would anyone use a HH when Hammer exists?
Why would anyone use a hammer when GS exists?

they let you use axe mode in XX

Just start with the best: 4U, FU, 3U, Stories

>Why would anyone use a HH when Hammer exists?

Can't rock out with a hammer.

>Why would anyone use an SnS when CB exists?
Status, mobility and you can use items with the weapond active making shit like rathalos braind dead easy if you are carrying a bunch of flash bombs.

>Why would anyone use a HH when Hammer exists?
Suport and buffs, everyone love the HH user specially DB and Bow users

love this meme of
>you don't like something
therefore
>you must be bad at it

GS takes a lot of time to master

4U is the best starting point. Generations is also a bit easier than the rest, at least in the beginning. I would also recommend 3U, but that's more or less because it was my starting point.
Also everyone love FU, so dabble in that too. But the hitboxes are absolute garbage and the series improved a lot since then.
So in the end, start with 4U.

Sometimes I firmly believe I am the only person on this god forsaken planet that like the underwater combat.

if you have a switch, MHXX SA has a few options. the new hunting art makes axe mode godlike or you can run brave style which focuses on swapping between the forms constantly (you literally just spam the form change attack)

Underwater combat was good if you had OK controls for example the clasic control in Tri

But if you have really shity camera controls like the one on the 3DS it can be a hellish nightmare. Specially ceadeus god I hate him

Start with a nail in your left hand, flop your sack on the wooden dining table, and with a hammer in your right hand drive the nail through the skin.

You are now completely caught up on the history of Monster Hunter.

>No way to map vertical dodges to Z-buttons in 3U

The only monster giving me trouble underwater is Lagiacrus and Plesioth, but I loved the concept. Can they please just improve controls and camera and let me swim again? I miss Gobul.

MHp3rd is the best one since you can emulate it on ppsspp and if you download the HD version ot won't give you any eye cancer because the emulator will apply antialising. And the game itself is easier than others and it doesn't go full retard with too much content like mhfu. Also no broken hitboxes or shitty first gen monsters. And the eastern Asia setting is comfy af.

is this series like Dark Souls?

The new SA axe art is retarded man, why would you lie like that. Nevermind brave does nothing for axe mode but gives you 2-for-1 didcharges in sword mode.

Its like Dark Souls if Dark Souls wasnt fun.

Also no.

>Can they please just improve controls and camera and let me swim again?
We can if you're willing to fork over $20 dollars for the underwater expansion pack

...

MHFU is pretty much the starting point. Hitboxes are a bit janky
P3rd is a bit easy but that's mostly attributed to it's lack of a G mode. It also has amazing weapon balance.
3U is good for that same reason and adds G rank but adds underwater combat which is no longer applicable
Don't do 4U at all because it's weapon balance is horseshit.

...

The clothing under the armors never get enough love.
