Vive is better obv. But since you've waited this long you might as well wait and see what happens at CES. Or maybe get a Rift in the meantime because they're cheap. It was $300 on Prime Day, so it might happen again on Black Friday. Vive is obv a lot more expensive, but you can do more with it.

Vive is superior, Oculus Rift is cheaper. The thing is that VR is expensive either way, though, you shouldn't skimp out on the hardware.

Don't listen to the other valveniggers. unless you are planning on playing in a literal warehouse you are not losing ANYTHING by going with the Rift over the Vive.

I have both and they are the exactly the same tracking wise, but the rift is FAR more comfortable and the controllers are way better for most games (MOST).

So don't shell out an additional 200-300 dollars for the Vive unless you are going to be playing VR in a gymnasium.

Fucking this. I have both (and develop for both) and anyone who tells you there is any substantial difference between the two headsets is retarded. You should only get the vive if you have a bigger playspace than 4x4 Meters. The oculus handles 4x4 easily but shits the bed if you scale it any bigger than that.

at 200 dollars cheaper, it's pretty much a no-brianer to get the RIFT, unless you have qualms about giving money to facebook (or you have a fuckhueg playspace).

I've also dealt with both HTC and Oculus customer support, and HTC kept my fucking Vive for 3 months before sending it back, whereas when my Rift had a dead pixel i got a brand new shipped to me for free within 2 weeks.

Oculus uses sensors as well. You need 3 of them to get results equivalent with what the vive does with two (but the technology is very different, and Valves solution is undoubtedly better and more robust). But once you have them mounted up high pointing downwards, the results is indistinguishable from what you get with the vive. Turning around, walking about, laying down on the floor, doing backflips is no problem at all with the Rift. The only downside really is that they are plugged into your USB slots on your PC, so you have to do some cable managing to get the perfect setup.

No, the knuckles controllers are not out yet, but the Vive tracker is (which is another reason why Vive is better than Rift).

It handles it no problem if you set up your sensors correctly. It's literally the exact same thing and you can play every single Steam/Vive game on the Rift (and vice versa).
And for the record the Vive Lighthouses are technically very different from what you would call a "sensor".

occam's razor, tpcast can't even get the vive's microphone working which is a tiny fraction of the amount of data compared to the rift (which are basically webcams)

I doubt they're going to bother working with the rift until it has inside out tracking and facebook can afford better than tpcast for wireless

Vive is 599 for the base package, works absolutely fine. You can then pay an additional 100 to get a headstrap that is actually usable and can be worm for more than an hour at a time. And additional pucks you want for 100 each *not required at all and barely have any content for the time being). Also there are new and improved controllers coming quite soon so expect another 160/200 dollars for that.

Rift is 399 for base package. Works "fine", but you really need that third sensor to actually get the most out of it. which is 59 dollars. And then you will need 1 or two 5 dollar USB cable extensions if you want to set up a proper Roomscale experience on the same level as the Vive. The default Rift strap is really good.

So 470 for the Rift and 599 for the basic vive package. But i would REALLY recomend shelling out an aditional 100 for the Vive head-strap, because the default one is embarrassingly terrible.
