is it worth getting one? i sold my regular 3ds xl but kinda wanna get back into it, cause i really missing games like animal crossing

should i get 2DS XL instead actually? forgot that was a thing

If you are buying new then the new 2ds xl is a better buy. The 3d isn't worth the extra $50. If you can find a new 3ds cheaper then $150, do it.

i have one and only downside i've found yet is that the screen is a little less bright than my old original non-xl 3ds

other than that i'm having a blast playing monhun on a bigger screen with slightly better graphics and a better framerate and being actually able to run games with excessively high-poly games like pokemon and mh stories way better

OP definitely get yourself a new 2ds

high poly models*

Get fantasy life. It's amazing. The 3ds has such a great library of games. Plus theres tons of good ds games.

No, unless you need to save the money. The N2DS XL has poor speaker placement, zero chance of an IPS screen, and is minus the 3D (which even if you turn it to minimum, uses an autobrightener and slightly sharpens the screen). Get a regular size N3DS or the SNES XL one. Or a cheap one from the refurb shop on nintendo's site.

i remember reading on that ALIENS game for the ds back then on a games magazine laying around a hospital lobby

back then i had no DS so i just forgot about it, but now i have a 3ds and i'm getting the THIRST

should i get it? how much does it cost? if it's too expensive i might just end up emulating, i remember doing it with diamond and pearl and it was easy as shit back then

>poor speaker placement
use headphones like everyone else, even on the new 3ds xl.
>wanting an ips screen but too cheap to have headphones
>screen is less bright
i agree with you there, but it's very little difference and pretty easy to get accustomed to.

3d is just a gimmick, period.
nobody keeps it on more than 5 mins and if they do they're usually just experimenting.

50 dollars more is still too much for these things

It's still inferior regardless of if you like the 3D or not. Having it on minimum won't affect your eyes and it makes the games better to look at (e.g. peach colored Miku with it off, regular skin color with it on).
If the extra cost really matters then there's nothing wrong with getting the N2DS XL, but if you can spare the money the N3DS is infinitely superior.

>zero chance of an IPS screen
what is there a fucking rng chance a 3ds will be ips or a tn screen?

>N3DS is just slightly superior.
ftfy

Speak for yourself, the new 3DS's 3d is great. I don't have it on ALL the time but it's nice to have it available. Just because you can't use it or don't care for it doesn't mean it isn't a great little feature. I think he should give it a try before 3D is done for good.

Yes. Although budget models like the 2DS and N2DS XL will all have the TN screens. Sometimes referred to as the "screen lotto."
Nah it's superior in every way but price. If I had said N3DS XL then you'd be right.

except OP already had a regular 3ds XL so they did get to experience the 3d

so unless they liked it enough to keep it there's no reason not to go for the 2ds xl

They both use a fucking 240p screen homie, tn or ips doesn't mean shit. Saving 50 bucks is saving 50 bucks.

The regular 3DS's 3D is dogshit though. I never had it on with my original model, these ones are actually pretty good.

>so the new 3ds is infinitely superior
>but the new 3ds xl is inferior to the regular new 3ds

ah i get it ( i don't )

Higher PPI
Faceplates
Same light weight as the N2DS XL
Good 3D
Was cheaper than the XL until it was out of stock and scalped

It doesn't have anything to do with the resolution. If you need a budget console that's what the 2DS XL was made for dude, if you want the better one it costs more. Like you said, 50 bucks is 50 bucks, so pick whatever you want. That's why they come out with all these models in the first place, they get as cheap as the original 2DS, which is less than $80 at some places. Or as expensive as $200, if you want all the shit the thing is capable of.

Do you want 3D? Go N3DSXL
Don't want 3D? Go N2DSXL
Just want to play 3ds games cheap? Go 2DS.

The entire line has about a year left on it, no point in spending 200 on a gimmick that died out 4 years ago unless you really want to see things in 3D still.

>about 5 posts of cherrypicking pros and "pros" still don't ammount to 50 extra buckaroos value

say, chummer, you seem a little buttmad the 2ds xl is not as "budget" as you may originally have thought

If you want to actually make it fit in a pants pocket, get the 3DS. The 2DS has a stupid shape and has no protection against scratches to the screen.

The 2DS is the most comfortable handheld since the fucking gameboys. Unless you're taking a fucking blade to the screen it is fine because it is recessed and not flushed with the rest of the plastic. Plus you get a free game with the 2DS. Ain't trying to shill shit but seriously the N3DS is a waste of money because no one uses the 3D option anymore.

Yeah, I bought one and feel ripped off.
And regardless of you dismissing it as "cherrypicking," the best option is still the original size N3DS if you can find it. Cheap, has the same features and more.
Without price
N3DS>N3DS XL>N2DS XL
With price
N3DS>N2DS XL>N3DS XL

I got a new 3DS XL yesterday and i still have to unpack it
what are some fun and must have games i should start with?
also are games region locked or can I get them from anywhere?

The 3DS is the best implementation of 3D ever used in casual consumer electronics. If you don't like it that's fine but it's a good thing that shouldn't just be dismissed.
Personally I think OP should just get a 2DS XL unless he can find a used new 3DS for cheap though, he doesn't really specify much outside of already having had the original.

>tfw got two 99% perfect N3DSXL (some veeery slight scratches in case, no malfunctions) at different pawn shops for 100 bucks each
Honestly those were lucky days, I entered those 2 times on a whim and hit jackpot. They work perfectly after a year and I got my 2DS friend's envy

just get a nintendo switch

Yes to region lock, you may hack it and get freeshop. Get Monster Hunter 4U asap

>tfw no pawn shops near me
I got a GBA SP from a thrift store for $10 though.

>MH4U
>Bravely Default
>Pokemon
>original DS library

There has to be something on there for you. One warning though: get a comfort grip sleeve for it. Otherwise your hands will cramp after playing 4U for 6 hours straight.

It's pretty good to hit one and get a hidden gem home, specialized used games store up their prices according to ebay and shit but thrift/pawns may mislabel their "Nintendos" on occasion

>they didn't make the n2dsxl a single piece of comfy plastic
>uncomfortable crampville clamshell shit instead
well atleast I can see the games I am playing, the 2ds was comfy but that fucking screen was tiny.

Yeah I love finding good shit like that in thrift stores and garbage sales. Got Megaman Battle Network 3 Blue and Golden Sun 2 as well.
Meanwhile the local VGT has beat up (but clean) SPs for $120.
