Meh. You know what, my first gen was an Atari 2600, but I *barely* remember it. Same for the NES we had after it. I was only 6-10 years old. I can't think back on those experiences and compare them to anything I'm doing today. I can't even remember what my school looked like back then. I just have vague blips of Aseroids in my head, and a lot of Legend of Zelda (the original) and waiting for Nintendo Power magazine to come so I could get hints to beat it. And that fucking Ninja Turtles game holy shit I was stuck on one part with a grappling hook for like a month.

You don't really outgrow the experience, you just replace it with real world tasks that give the some mental benefits. Video games are a substitute for when you don't have the ability to get those feelings of accomplishment in real life (no money, job, freedom,whatever).

Once you get older and have those doors opened up, you can replace video games with real life. In theory. But some people either don't want to, or still don't have the ability to do so (disability, laziness, controlling wife, whatever).

You're never outgrow the mental gains of playing video games, regardless.
