Final Fantasy 15

Why was Final Fantasy 15 a better game than Persona 5?

Serious answers only please.

fuck no

The characters are better, but it's not a better game.

Miles better antagonist.

It looked better. That's about it.

Serious Answers?

>It's appealing in a certain aesthetic and to a certain demographic
>It's Open World for a majority of the game
>It gets continuous updates
>For once in a single player Final Fantasy, basic Black Magic is very very important.
>Crafting Magic allows for customization depending on what you need for a fight
>There's a post-game
>There's a variety of weapons, to allow different fighting styles
>It's an additional entry into a longer running franchise

And I say this as someone who prefers P5

FF15 was fucking abysmal after the Leviathan, P5 was just boring some hours in.

Its fanbase aren't composed of ironic weeb girls on twitter, that's gotta count for something right?

Can we think that FF15 is EA's Spore?

>that's gotta count for something right?

It does.

This is eerily accurate when it comes to girls I know on social media.

FF15's in game narrative was bad, but it wasn't Persona-tier bad (i.e. scooby doo).

Because it has a well established cast of likeable characters who are all adults and who go through change, and a well done antagonist with a ton of charisma. The world feels varied and really nails the roadtrip feel and the brotherhood dynamic. The combat is actually involving and fantastic monster designs help create a sense of believability to the world making it feel more lived in. The OST is amazingly done and the way it uses leitmotif in the boss themes later on in the game incorporating character themes and the story themes into them really hammer down on that musical pressenence. And the ending is extremely emotionally impactful because of how well the bros were pportrayed in the game and how believable as friends they came across as.

P5 just felt like generic Japanese kids again in some scoobydoo wabbabe story with predictable twist and a very bland ending. It was extremely restrictive and linear and felt needlessly padded to make it feel longer than it needs to be. The music is very forgettable and unmemorable and the dungeons are badly put toghther, when even the random generared dungeons in P5 offer more challenge than the carefully designed ones in it then you have a problem.

There really isn't a single thing P5 did better than XV.

>Serious answers only please.
Better start with a serious question first.

>Why was Final Fantasy 15 a better game than Persona 5?

Says who? Metacritic (both users and Critics) say that Persona 5 is better than XV

>clings to metacritic because he can't come up with his own argument
Pathetic.

>It's Open World for a majority of the game
But this is an awful thing.

Because I unironically can't enjoy real-world settings anymore as a white-collar wagecuck, I need me some escapism.

No it isn't, FF1-9 are too and that's what people love about FF.

I hope we can have comfy FF15 Comrades threads when it drops in a few days.

Pretty sure people loved the dungeons, boss fights and story and presentation, not roaming around the map killing random monsters and running fetch quests.

>tfw just got back from a Distant Worlds concert

What's everyone's favorite track from FF15?

Comrades does not look appealing.

it's just fighting monsters (aka Holding O) with other players and you have to pay to experience it.

No. Even after all these updates still no.

It depends. I felt more invested in the world emotionally in FF15, so even the more lackluster quests felt more satisfying for some reason.

Most of P5's quests are basically just finding a guy in Mementos and listening to his monologue anyway.

Looks good, same with ep iggy

I bet they are gonna make the 4 bros playable in comrades after ep iggy comes out because they probably want people to experience playing as iggy first in his own episode

>manual boat controls

I doubt it will control well

Somnus, hellfire, ravus aeterna, invidia, veiled in black. Fuck man its one of my favorite ff osts

They played Somnus and Apocalyptis Noctus at the concert. Nobuo was there too, was pretty cool.

Because it wasn't a rewardless dating sim with a half-assed combat system.

Having played the beta you die if you try that because there is no phase autododge and no in battle items either so you have to play properly, nice shitpost though I'll give it a 0/10 because you keep regurgitating this meme across multiple threads

pc when????

XV-kun, I bought XV a few weeks ago and loved it.

Thank you for defending this game on Sup Forums, it's a shame it gets so much shit.

"Early 2018" apparently.

The offroad car controls well, no reason the boat won't

I wish they had distant worlds near where I live

>P5 just felt like generic Japanese kids
They're both shitty shonen stories.

It isn't though. As it stands, FF XV is only a bunch of demo segments stringed together in a rather hamfisted way. In contrast Persona 5 does feel like a full game.

Offroad driving is out now?

It was a really cool experience. They ended it with One Winged Angel and tried to get the entire auditorium to join in on some of the vocals but nobody did, Nobuo joined the choir for the piece though, which I liked.

Early 2018, no specific date yet so could be all the way to March 2018

>Why was Final Fantasy 15 a better game than Persona 5?

interesting question. I played P3 and P4 back in the day way before any hype and always thought they were very ok games but nothing more. a little boring for my tastes. same with P5, even though it's by far the most polished game in this series. Now, FF XV was certainly a rushed game (despite being announced 10 years ago). But I did enjoy it way more. It's the best 8/10 game I have ever played. both worth a play for different reasons if you ask me. also Ardyn was a great character.

>remember prompto had a conflict about being 'made' the same as vivi in ff9 everyone loved that
>except it was established in one scene and resolved five minutes later because the power of friendship

I enjoyed 15 for what it was, but I'll never go back to it, after you get to leviathan it feels like it's put on a track steaming to the endgame, there should have been more.

and the MASSIVE OPEN WORLD can be travelled in minutes by car. HUGE.

I don't know if the dlc improves it, maybe it does, but it doesn't deserve my money.

>The offroad car controls well

I haven't played XV since that update as made.

Offroad driving was added in june.

Heh figures they'd end on owa that's uematsus most popular one

>turn on PS4 with FFXV to check on the latest updates
>5GB of updates to download
God damn.

>I played P3 and P4 back in the day way before any hype and always thought they were very ok games but nothing more

This is exactly how I've felt about the entire Persona series, and I've played 2 through to 5.

Their main appeal, for me, was that the life-sim aspects were, when I first played 3, entirely new and novel. I'd never quite encountered anything like it in an RPG before. Managing your school day, just getting to traverse a Japanese school environment in of itself was quite cool and it was very realized.

But once that novelty aspect wears off, there's just not a whole lot that keeps you engaged with the world. The protagonist is silent, and you can't really identify with him in any way (this is especially absurd in 3 as you're supposed to treat his sacrifice as a big deal, but it didn't resonate in the same way Noctis' did), your companions are interesting at points, but their arcs feel contrived and the fact you're -needed- to drive their arc forward in a sort of lock and key way, combined with the fact any development they have as a character is part of a gamified system (S-Links) just feels hollow and silly somehow.

I'm not saying 15 is a perfect game by any means, but damn I've been more emotionally invested in Tales' games than any Persona game, and that's saying something.

From someone who played both and liked both. Persona 5 is one of the best games I ever played. Final Fantasy XV was alright. It can be fun but it was nowhere near the same level as Persona 5 in any way possible.

Speaking of P5, I have to put my NG+ run aside so I can make room for Comrades. The upside is if Comrades sucks, I can just pop back to P5.

Ep Prompto delves more into Prompto's origins and his insecurities and canonicaly takes place before he reveals his origin to the party. The best period to play his episode would be right after you reunite with him in ch13 but before he tells the party of his origin.

Is there an open world or world map that you can't traverse in minutes?

>Says who?
I see that picture spammed a lot ( obsessed samefag ?) but it's kinda bs.

The game absolutely deserves an 8/10 and this comes from someone who loved the game. It was clearly rushed by Square for some reason. And I'm not talking about shit missing from the previous trailers. There's objectively a lot of story elements that were missing. And Nifelheim should have been more explorable.

>Their main appeal, for me, was that the life-sim aspects were, when I first played 3, entirely new and novel. I'd never quite encountered anything like it in an RPG before. Managing your school day, just getting to traverse a Japanese school environment in of itself was quite cool and it was very realized.

And this is exactly why Persona games are so popular with girls, particularly cosplayers. Both cosplay and Persona are surrogate forms of high school life for people who feel they never experienced a school-life of their own in the past.

>single player Final Fantasy, basic Black Magic is very very important.
FF13's magic was pretty useful. There's no MP so basic spells fire/aero/blizzard/thunder are spammable basic attacks, while the -aga spells cause knock-ups which are VERY useful against certain mobs.

True, Tabata even mentioned in a recent interview that originally the shift from the open world to linear part was gonna be gradual instead of abrupt but they ran out of time so had to do it that way. Makes me think Cartanica/Tenebrae/Gralea was gonna be more explorable

God damn. If only.

Can we all agree at least that Darin De Paul did an amazing job voice acting Ardyn? Not sure who his Japanese VA was.

>The best period to play his episode would be right after you reunite with him in ch13 but before he tells the party of his origin.
>buy the game and not complete it until the dlc has been released

fuck off, the main game has to stand on it's own, dlc should be extras, not stuff that makes the main game better after the fact.

>Not sure who his Japanese VA was.

Keiji Fujiwara.

Even Luna's room is fully modeled and can be found in Tenebrae with the armiger glitch, and while sure it's used in some cutscenes it still has collision detection on the furniture and stuff

Yep, Keiji Fujiwara is his JP VA and both did a fantastic job.

FF XV had better world-building that's for sure.

how can a game that's been in development for a fucking decade still feel rushed and unfinished?

I enjoyed it overall but fucking hell, what could have been.

staff changes killed the studio.

Lost Odyssey was the last good FF game.

Because it wasn't actually in development for that long. It was only under full dev for like 3 years. The original version of the game was basically shelved for 7 years and then scrapped with the usable pieces leftover stitched together.

It does but it also just gives more insight into him.

Like ep Gladio has nothing to do with the main story, the only thing you learn that carries into the main story is we just see how ge got his new scars from Gilgamesh, but that isn't crucial to understanding the story, most of ep Gladio is just stuff about the crownsguard and Cor

Are they gonna fix anything with DLC?

>how can a game that's been in development for a fucking decade still feel rushed and unfinished?

It's essentially two creative visions patched together, that's why.

>I enjoyed it overall but fucking hell, what could have been.

Agreed, but my feeling about FF15 is that it gives a good foundation for modern FF games to adopt moving forward. Since 12 they've not really known what they want to be ultimately, and 15 gives a workable template to follow.

Because boyband roadtrip adventures is more fun than "We're thieves, but only in fantasy-land, so we're not 'real' thieves".
Also, Noct's power suit is really cool. One man armoury + phase-dashing + tag team attacks + Impressive magic. It's just all around fun.

I beat the game about a month after it released. Loved it, the whole atmosphere of a contemporary midwestern American landscape was handled perfectly. I like how they dealt with the different beasts of the wild and the demons that appear at night in unlit areas... they could have handled the magitek soldiers a little better, they seemed too mindless and it would be better if they acted more like police or something.

I'm going to buy all the FF15 expansion packs trek through all the remaining content.

Because the XV we got wasn't in dev for 10 years but rather just over 3. Nomura barely got shit done in 7 years then the project under tabata restarted almost from scratch only just using the characters, world and some story concepts but also now being remade assets from the ground up on a new engine.

This. 15 may have been rushed but the formula (open world game in the rough vein as things like GTA - with large expansive wildernesses and a couple of big towns -
combined with segued narrative-heavy linear segments) is golden.

Without the development hell of something like the Versus project to hamstring 16's developers, we should be able to expect something really cool.

The upcoming 2018 DLC seems like its gonna be for things in the main story, the current 2017 DLC feel like things that happen adjacent to the main story

>"For FFXV the theme is the bonding of Father and Son"
>"Regis gave his car to Noctis so he feels like his father is with him the entire journey"

He actually meant that LITERATELY - Regis is not in the fucking game for more then 2 min and they had to get a meaning of the car so they fused a game "mechanic" to the main fucking theme of the game, for that two-birds-one-stone garbage.

The only reason this man isn't crucified like Peter Molyneux and Sean Murray for scamming people is because he is Japanese, and glorious Nippoin can never do wrong.

A lot of the things they're doing in XVs DLC also seem to be them trying stuff that they wanna do on a bigger scale in Tabata'a new IP, though that's not coming till PS5 and Tabata said he's not gonna announce it until they have a release date

>All the FFXV VAs are attention whores.

I would probably go in hiding desu.

>Why was Final Fantasy 15 a better game than Persona 5

That's like asking "Why is a cup of water better than a glass of water?".

It wasn't. I even liked XV quite a bit, but the game is far too rough and full of padding to be better than P5 (although that has its own problems).

>Why is shit better than gold? Serious answers only please.

But we've known since before the game was out that Noctis's bond with his father is symbolized through the car, that's literally why when the car breaks down in Niflheim it shows a flashback to Regis opening his arms to Noctis.

Regis is in XV more than Zack is in 7 so I don't get your complaint. Nomura is the one on par with Murray and Molyneux and Inafune. Tabata is based as fuck and on his first HD console game ever he had to fix Nomura's mess and did a great job everything considered.

>though that's not coming till PS5

Shit, really?

P5 and XV have the same pool of VAs.

He said it's aiming for next gen, which would be 9th gen.

But thats the lamest bad guy of all time.

That's Ardyn, a villain with one of the most sympathetic motivations and backstories of any JRPG character, not a Persona Scooby-Doo bad guy.

Nah, Ardyn is based.

>that Sup Forums thread

Related: What do you guys make of that theory that Ardyn planned the waking of the Glacian (and its destruction) so that it would render Niflheim desolate and barren and they'd be forced to make war against Lucis?

It's trash.

Versus XIII was creative. There was a unique dynamic between the modern "big city" of Insomnia ran by mafia-esque politicians who used fantasy swords in contrast to the medieval Niflheim which looked more fantastic, yet used firearms. That was creative. Too bad they turned Insomnia into just another fantasy city and all but removed Insomnia from the game.

Nomura described it as a game that deviates from series’ norms in in countless ways. Versus was clearly using KH as the basis for its combat. I mean you can actually see it in some of the old trailers: shorter and more clearly defined combos where landing a finisher actually matters (the finishers seemed to do about double the damage of a normal attack), the ability to replace normal hits in the combo with a magic attack and then flow into the next hit seamlessly, actual hitstun on enemies so you can make it to a combo finisher (something FF15 sorely lacks), and obviously the original UI had a command menu exactly like KH.

XV is the exact opposite of what Nomura was trying to do with Versus. The only people who like it are clueless XVfags who only hopped on after the renaming.

Versus playing like KH is not a positive.

>FF XV had better world-building that's for sure.
Not even comparing it to P5 since that itself already rode on the other games for its setting, but having to put half of your world building in DLC doesn't seem that good.

Does it really matter? Nomura was clearly not capable of meeting this creative vision.

KH1 and 2 have way better gameplay than any FF.

Dude is lame and completely not threatening. A good Final Fantasy game needs a villain thats actually scary powerful. Like Sephiroth, Ultimacea, Kefka, Kuja or some powerful monster like Lavos from Chrono Trigger.... Ardyn is wack bro.

No. Anyone who thinks any Kingdom Hearts game has good or even decent gameplay has incredibly low standards.

So to say the same for FFXV shows even lower standards?

Nomura never even had the chance to develop Versus XIII as he intended to. This continued until 2011/2012 as SE could not spare any manpower as they were trying to put out the raging dumpster fire created by XIII and XIV. And when Nomura could finally be given a proper team, SE forced him to make it a mainline title because they had nothing left, then Tabata weaseled his way to director by taking advantage of Nomura's kindness in letting him on the team.

Yes XV plays poorly as well.

FFXV
E3 2013 Trailer,

"I can't stay any longer" said Nomura through Stella, "My heart won't let go" said Noctis who represents the player, us. "Don't worry about me (Versus XIII, Nomura). Live your own life".
"The world we purport to know is ever changing ending as we speak. So it is and must be for all existence." (Versus XIII is ending) And at the end : "you want the truth ? it's complicated".

E3 2013 Trailer has been a goodbye from Nomura you fucking faggots, we didn't deserve his Final Fantasy. Fuck.

>look at all these assumptions I'm making!

>No.
Name the best offense in KH1 or 2. Because you can do that for most of the FF games.

>Anyone who thinks any Kingdom Hearts game has good or even decent gameplay has incredibly low standards.
Anyone who thinks KH is just button mashing is a fucking retard that couldn't be bothered to go beyond the very surface level of a children's game and a hypocrite for not applying the same logic to FF.

Are you new? When Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 was released to immediate player backlash and negative critical reception, the team could not fully mend the game in its existing form as its engine and server structure were already critically flawed. This meant that, in order to save XIV, the entire game needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Wada in his official business report in November of 2012 stated:
>"The unsuccessful launch of FFXIV caused a negative chain of events in other areas across the businesses. One notable example is the significant delay in the development of new HD games titles"

Keep in mind that until November of 2012 FFXIV 1.0 was still being updated by the dev team while at the same time the 2.0 version was being developed. To achieve this SE poured all of its resources into rebuilding XIV from the ground up in just 2 years. Meaning, everyone and their mothers was working on XIV including the VsXIII team.

My dude, you are really talking out of your ass

We knew next to nothing about Versus XIII, and everything points to Tabata having to literally fix a black hole.
