I can't imagine how unpleasant it would be to sat straight in front of a monitor trying to play a game in 4k though, your eyes would be constantly darting around the screen

Console 4K is just upscaled 1080p anyway. It would look blurry as heck on an actual 4K 60" screen. Kind of like how Nintendo consoles and handhelds are notorious for rendering at a lower native resolution than the resolution of the screen.

4k tv's are common and cheap now. They're shit for anything besides movies and tv though. 4k monitors with reasonable response times are still extremely expensive.

It isn't worth it to discuss expensive things here because most people here can't even afford a video game let alone a new system. VR, switch, new games, new computer hardware. I don't think it deserves the hate it gets. It's pretty good from an overall gaming standpoint. Exclusives aren't everything at the end of the day. Although saying that, if persona 5 and horizon weren't £40 each I'd probably be playing them but I can't afford it so I end up playing the Xbox way more, which isn't a bad thing.

Most games still upscale, and the ones that don't and aren't first party run poorly (drops to ~20 FPS).

Why? It's a perfectly capable console. I don't see Sony offering me back compat for free. Also PSN is a whopping £15 more than XBL here now after that price hike Sony recently did for some unknown reasons so the cheaper Xbox is basically my only choice for online games too now.
