You know what to do, post gayms, talk about RTS, call people fags, lament the harsh truth that Warlords Battlecry IV is never ever coming out.
What have you been playing, user? I'm just Supcoming these days, I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a good RTS MP experience.
Also, Meme Division is on sale (pic related). I'd actually recommend it with the discount. I had a lot of fun with it and the player numbers should be boosted by the sale a bit so you can have some matches with new players.
Make RTS great again - Shitposts per minute edition
Obligatory War Wind bump.
UCS >>>>>> LC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EDniggers
>You will talk about video games, user. And you will like it!
>lament the harsh truth that Warlords Battlecry IV is never ever coming out
That said Dark Dwarf Tinker is a fun hero, especially when playing the normal dwarves
>mad Engineer skill
>super tough towers
>put towers directly in the face of the enemy
>send crossbowmen into the towers
>enemy base status: locked down
I haven't played it in ages but no game comes close when it comes how unique the heroes work and are. Such a shame that we will probably never see a sequel.
*steals UFO*
*gets it to level 8*
*overflows stats, making the weapon do millions of points of damage and causing hit targets to have their HP roll over to tens of thousands*
nothing personnell
Perimeter is CUTE
You can terraform and hide from bullies under comfy energy shield
War for the Overworld or Dungeons?
>???
I just found out that Perimeter 2 exits. Seems like its shit because its mostly negative on Steam with only 42 reviews?
store.steampowered.com
Seems like this is another shitshow like Seven Kingdoms Conquest. Fuck the guys who made Conquest, seriously.
>Renaming Fryhtans into Deeeeemoooonz
>UNITE
We're totally not dying
i hear energy shields give of a specific kind of radiation which causes sperm cancer
What's the best modern military RTS?
...
What went wrong?
>Ubisoft
How was this one?
>UCS
>Got BTFO by remnants of LC and ED in LS
How can GOLAN even compete?
Would recommend, especially if you liked Ground Control. I remember enjoying it very much.
DELET THIS RIGHT NOW
I'm still playing Escape from the Blue planet
I've never understood the appeal of C&C, personally.
Get out.
You probably didn't play it as a child then. It was magical and it certainly was something new with the cutscenes and the story. I remember reading the first Red Alert manual religiously for hours. Also, its hard to deny the influence of CnC on the genre.
What i like about Escape from the Blue Planet is that you can lose some missions(and get some extra) and still win the game
I tested it out recently and you can actually fail every single mission and still continue the game, you only lose if you run out of missions (or if Fang dies). Might have been changed in some patch, since I remember from way back the game ending if you fail UCS New York or ED Leviathan.
Give it to me straight user. Is Dawn of War dead? Can we survive DoW 3? Hold me.
DoW 2 was shit on release as well but its a great game nowadays with Elite mod. Although, sadly, it seems that DoW 3 cannot be fixed by any mod.
What is the most obscure RTS you have played?
JuraWars
ParaWorld
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms
i liked the fantasy theme, the broken units, and the fact there was only one simplified resource.
Probably War Wind and Real War.
>Infantry stances confirmed.
Probably dragon shard.
Oh I hope this isn't shit, they said they took inspiration from CoH and MoW, but it's coming out on consoles too.
That is literally my main concern right now. If they center the game too much around console controls it is bound to be shit.
Just play Soulstorm with the UA mod.
What exactly is "wargamey" about the Wargame series? It looks like just regular RTT to me. But then again I mostly associate wargames with strategic operations where you shuffle around divisions
>rts also released on consoles.
There is exactly zero chance this game will be good.
Morons like you will buy it anyway and then come complain about it here.
I suspect you won't like it if you're used to autism simulators like Gary Grigsby's War in the East. On the other hand it had a greater focus on unit preservation, combined arms and unit placement than many other games. Of course, frenchydevs suck with balancing in both Red Dragon and Meme Division so cheese is omnipresent if you really want to use it. Especially in Red Dragon since it features modern weaponry like ATGMs.
>just finished replaying War 3 for the billionth time
Glad you could make it, Uther
I should mention that I only care about singleplayer. Is the campaign good?
I'm fine with it not being a wargame like I'm used to, was just wondering since the scope looked small for the wargames I know
>der untermensch posting
Sudden Strike 4 or Steel Division?
I remember asking you about this game being zoomed in as hell and how I couldn't get into it because of that, it's like you said, the mouse is used to control the camera (should have checked the tutorial instead of jumping straight into Skirmish) but I still can't get into it. The camera controls are so choppy (both displacement and adjustment) and the game doesn't seem to have any sound on my end.
I'll concede that it's probably not a bad game once you get everything working but it feels so much worse than any other offers that came on that era that I don't really feel like playing it.
No, both Red Dragon and especially Steel Division have weak SP campaigns. Placeholders, not interesting, more like tutorials for the MP.
You could try out Close Combat or Men of War if you're in for SP.
Did they release wic for consoles at the end? I thought that was cancelled
I'm playing this on Hard right now! Currently on the Alliance / Blood Elf Campaign on TFT. I'm admittedly kinda shit at WC3, I think it has mostly to do with that my unit compositions always die to the enemy ones. I mostly rely on blowing up their production buildings and reswarming them. I'm better at Starcraft's more macro oriented approach I guess. I still like WC3 a lot though.
I'm also currently introducing two of my completely new friends to the genre through Starcraft: Brood War. One of them is very discouraged about "being slow" and not being able to beat the AI; we had a lesson yesterday where I showed him that you can beat the AI with just your mousehand and by having a simple plan that involves getting a lot of units, and just remembering to keep your workers bulding and keeping your minerals low. My friends show some promise so maybe we can jump into 3v3 BGH in due time.
>Men of War
I thought that was basically just Company of Heroes
youtube.com
>when the part at 2:20 kicks in
It's just perfect.
Honestly, its a great game for the ideas and the mechanics. The engine and graphics aged like milk, so its understandable that you are finding it hard to get into. I think that most of the people playing it today are guys who played it when it came out, or at least have some connection to the Earth series. Its a nightmare to get working, I had problems myself and had to disable some shit in WIN7 to get it going. You could try out 2160 which isn't a bad game either, but I don't think that you will like it since its choppy as well.
It's a lot better than Company of Heroes.
I honestly didn't have any trouble with Hard until the final level, which definitely involves cheating by the AI. Best of luck with that shit user.
Not really, its more in depth especially with infantry combat and shit you can do. Individual soldiers that have their own inventories and such things.
youtube.com
I personally haven't played Men of War: Assault Squad 2 but I played the older one and there was a lot of goofy and cool shit you could do with the game mechanics.
>we had a lesson yesterday where I showed him that you can beat the AI with just your mousehand and by having a simple plan that involves getting a lot of units
I beat the campaign of almost every single RTS I palyed as a kid by building up to max units and just dicking the AI to death. IIRC I had to cheat to win against Archimonde in WC3 though, and Cossacks 2 absolutely ruined me cause that playstyle doesn't quite work there
I've spent the last two weeks playing Age of Empires III with the Wars of Liberty mod.
Thinking about coming back to SCII now that it's probably full of hues to play with but I'm going to stick with custom singleplayer like I always did.
Well, Reign of Chaos campaign I've beaten, and it wasn't that hard except for last Undead mission.
TFT's difficulty is worse.
>I had to cheat to win against Archimonde in WC3 though
That one was actually not at all a problem for me, because I just went mass Archers with 1-2 Druids of the Claw to Roar at them and Malfurion to Tranquility all of them. When Thrall's base fell, I only had 9 minutes on the clock.
Was this really that obscure? I remember it being pretty big in the game magazines I've read. Played it too.
>game has great base building that makes it feel like a compact city builder, but has awful easily cheesed unit combat
>game has great flexible unit combat where everything has a lot of options and interesting abilities, but the base building is an afterthought at best and nonexistent at worst
There was an RTS in the early 2000's. All I can remember from it is that it had a unit that was like a samurai, and it had an aura.
Kohan was really innovative and fun. More people need to play it.
Empires dawn of the modern world?
Heroes of Annihilated Empires
Armies of Exigo
sounds like Battle Realms, a really underrated game
Why does the victorious syrian look angry instead of happy?
>That sound of the charging Tesla coil
auralux and auralux 2, also one of the best
I never played any RTS in MP so I gotta ask: How was the balance in Yuri's Revenge? Once during Yuri's campaign I got all my buildings destroyed (shut up I was like 12 years old) and still managed to win simply because I had 5 gatling tanks standing around who soloed everything the AI threw at me
How is the final Earth series? The one on the new planet?
Oh shit I remember playing the demo.
The fighter jet dodging animation was amazing back then.
2160? Mediocre? They made some stuff more casual (no tunnels), infantry is back but pretty useless. Some cringeworthy heroes in the campaign. Pros are still unique mechanics (ED bases are made from interconnected modules, LC builds towers and stacks modules on them). Its still an interesting game, but a downgrade from 2150 for sure.
>Also, 2170 never ever. Reality Pump is busy with random rpg cashgrabs
>Yuri's campaign.
Fake and gay, there's no such thing without mods.
The camera limits and FPS cap can be changed with console commands. Camera zoom and movement is always choppy in vanilla but in the expansion (TMP/LS) it's smooth.
Sorry user. It's been ages, might have been Skirmish to check out Yuri's units
Come to think of it, I never understood why the game freezes for a moment when tesla coil fires
>Slightly hyped
Good to know.
Thanks user!
Clearly it's hitfreeze like my japanese videogames
Fuck I bought this and forgot about it for years. Is it as hard as everyone says?
this was a brilliant game, put many hours into this with a friend.
that looks fantastic, thanks for reminding me that there is one last rts on the horizon/
I've personally been dissapointed (not unsuprisingly, the signs were plain to see with it's development paths) with dow3. for those that haven't played it claimed it would be a blend of dow1 and dow2 gameplay and ended up being a blend of starcraft+Moba
That the campaign was so fucking lacklustre and absolutely unreplayable was a huge nail in the coffin.
But the hugest dissapointment of all is the devteam which brought this flaming middle finger to the rts genre are now working on age of empires too.
On better notes though did anyone ever play empires:dawn of the modern world/
I remember playing taht on gamespy for years
I remember getting Warlords Battlecry III on a sale or something and I really enjoyed it (way better than Heroes of Annihilated Empires when it comes to mixing RPG/RTS elements). and this threads made a lot of mentions of a mod called the Protectors. How much does it improve over the Steam release?
It was more fantasy, I think its . I remember one of the factions(?) had a building you would make to resurrect or summon three dead brothers(?) or something along those lines.
7th Legion
The card system was interesting but the AI and pretty much everything was subpar
>Clearly it's hitfreeze
There are practical means for this, but once you have 3-4 tesla coils firing repeatedly it gets annoying pretty fast
It had good soundtrack
Has news about gameplay been released? Will it play like DoW 2 or Sudden Strike or will it be an actual RTS with base building?
If you didn't namefag so much, OP, more people might actually want to talk about RTS.
RTS threads were always slow
Nobody likes a namefag, to be quite honest.
He's pretty much the only one making RTS threads on a regular. With no /vg/ and the fact that most RTS threads will die without many posts either way I'd say he's somewhat succesful at what he's doing.
Men of war is much more realistic while CoH is more arcade.
>got coh2 this year
>still playing it trying to climb the ranks
why do i do this to myself
at least it feels good wrecking ostheer shitters
coh2 is a steaming pile a shit
I had a lot of fun with automatch, but while the game was still the main concern of Relic they really fucked the balance with pay to win commanders. Holy fuck when that American commander came out that has the Pershing and rangers. Also, if you remember original Rifle company where you could basically call in veted rifles as soon as the game starts.
no
Comp stomp > PVP
seven years war
moddb.com
Just check it out. Even if you don't agree with their changes the HD and game support is pretty sweet. Also seems to be a good way to get MP going.
it is, but its fun shoving other people's face into shit
What are some other RTS games that involves spreading/corruping like the zerg do?
I know to a degree the undead do in WC3 with the land dying off and in IIRC in Armies of Exigo i'm pretty sure the subterranean faction working in a similar way.
How the fuck do I do the campaign on hard? I'm at mission 3 ( I think ) when you need to defend 3 points from massive waves of increasingly difficult germans.
>dungeon keeper 3 never
It still hurts
