Am I the only only person who has never undocked my switch? I got it at midnight on the night it released and I have never looked at it as a handheld. The joycons have also always been on the side, I use the pro controller exclusively, no shitty puppy controller for me.
Yet everything I hear is “games on the go!” “The switch is such a great hand held.”
What about you Sup Forums? Do you ever undock your switch?
The Switch: Docked or Undocked
>Am I the only-
No.
Not buying one until about 3 years from now when it has a good library of games.
I play about 75% undocked but lately with Doom and LA Noir I’ve been docking it more.
I actually rarely play docked. Most games take a performance hit docked, and I find handheld gaming to be more comfortable.
No when would I ever play games outside my house?
Are those good ports? I’ve been considering them
L.A. Noire is pretty fun. Noticeable pop-in while driving, but doesn't ruin it at all, and it runs smoothly except for in a few cases. All in all, the game itself is still as fantastic as I remember it. It boggles my mind that I'm playing it on something the size of a kindle
When I get this thing, I'm playing it undocked, I disliked Nintendo's home consoles since the Gamecube, if I'm getting a Switch, I'm getting it as a handheld.
What did you think this thread was about?
Doom is ok. La is freaking great but there is some pop in here and there.
i have also never undocked my switch
only time i can think of that i would is for long flight/train ride/road trip
i thought i was going to play everything docked. wasn't really into a hand held. next thing i knew i was playing everything undocked and enjoying it.
I've never docked mine. I just play in bed, though I wish the kickstand wasn't so shit. Why the fuck is there only one leg, and why isn't it in the middle?
More people play it undocked than docked. There are stats to back this up.
I just saw picture of Switch. I didn't read the title or op.
The kickstand is pointless. Not sure what they were thinking. Luckily, it's removable and I'm sure someone will make a better one.
Switch fans sure do love docking
This is the future generation
I never undock my switch either.
Docked + Pro Controller master race
Both. I play splatoon 2 docked because ethernet connection gives a big advantage. But I played BotW and Mario odyssey in handheld. Mario did look a little soft at 720i but it wasnt bad at all
made me giggle
kys sonegro
wut? I don't even have a PS4 or Xbox one either for that matter. This gen is shit. Zero games interest me so far.
I've played docked, undocked with joy-cons, and undocked with joy-cons attached. Grab-and-go is pretty great.
this.
Other than Pre-patched Zelda, no other games have issues docked
This
Do both.
Some games obviously better docked while some better handheld example docked doom multiplayer undocked PUYO PUYO TETRIS.
Just got mines today. Playing undocked with the Switch on a table is pretty comfy.
>What about you Sup Forums? Do you ever undock your switch?
ye since sometimes its nice to just comfyily play shit snuggled up with low brightness that the undocked mode provides in a dark room.
But hey nothing wrong with how you prefer to use the thing. Just nice to have the extra options available even if one does not use them.
Well I guess when your games don't have much of a story you just tend to do that
2 reasons I play undocked:
>commute to and from the job
>ive been sitting in an office chair all day, at home I want comfy bed playan
I mostly play it undocked since most Switch games aren't that pretty on a 3440x1440 ultrawide display. It's so comfy as a handheld, but if I wanna use the Pro controller then I definitely do dock it. I mean, there's not really much of a point in playing it in tabletop mode to use the Pro controller if I'm right next to a display, and it's not like I'm THAT hardcore of a gamer to just carry a Pro controller in my backpack everywhere for when I'm not near a display.
I mostly play in docked mode
I use both, but mostly undocked. the only feature i haven't used for the switch is seperate dual joycons because their too small and thin for my giant american hands
90% undocked 10% docked. I dont want my display to get scratched
Docked about 80% of the time. I splurged for the pro controller on a whim and now it's hard to go back. I have large hands and it's very comfortable.
They look just fine on my 60inch 4K tv
Both good ports, but for Doom the 30fps can be jarring at first if you've played any of the other versions.
I play it in 4K at 60fps on ultra settings on my PC, but I feel the game probably looks more cinematic in 30
>Am I the only...
no, you're not that special.
it's like 85%-95% less comfy in handheld rather than docked + pro controller
I like that it's portable for when I want to game on the move/while travelling but that's about the only time I'll undock it.
Do you think on black friday there will be any decent deals with zelda?
>tfw live in niggerland and can't take anything nice outside without risking it getting stolen
I doubt it. Nintendo is going to have no trouble moving product. Next year will be even crazier, if they keep up their annual release of Pokemon games.
I play tabletop or docked.
Handheld is pretty uncomfortable for the right stick.
I'll play 2D games handheld since that stick is barely used though.
>Playing it docked when it's a none issue that having it there and on too long will warp the device
KEK
You’re right, it is a “none” issue. Mine has never warped
I literally just use it as a 3ds replacement so i can play in bed. I can never go back to 3DS after Switch, so good thing I finished everything I needed to. Like maybe once in awhile I'll play on my monitor.
>he fell for it
>doesn't even have a screen protector regardless
lol
>its a none issue
>none
pokemon USUM is the last time my 3ds will get play
switch blows it out of the water
I do this, but I want to play USUM and can't. That 240p screen kills the experience now.
im gonna play usum at 4k in bed on my pc through 3ds emulation
my pc is close enough to my bed that i can do this, 4k 50 inch tv as a display
Lol. Show PC settings m8.
I have never once played with the Switch in docked mode.
not that user but i can run it at 4k 60fps,
1080ti paired with an i7 7700k
what is your pc? I tried running citra and got like 5fps
So piracy is your answer huh? Congrats on contributing to the death of gaming
I've never once docked my switch, use it exclusive as a hand held. idk why.
I’m that user and it’s easily doable with my build.
a regular 1080
a I7-7700(no K)
16gb DDR4
650w PSU
It it mostly stable with one one instance of it dropping to 49fps for a brief moment
See, I can’t stand the idea of playing something on a tiny screen, so I only play docked, but weirdly, even my 3DS was played at home on the couch in stead of on the go. I don’t like public gaming
im this user
sorry but i dont care, i feel like companies should compete with piracy rarther than expect a sale, why would i buy a 240p game, portability is a huge advantage but id prefer the higher resolution and frame rate, id buy it on the switch if it was avalible and switch emulation was avalible because then i would still have okay visuals with the added portability
ah
damn I can't afford a 1080ti wish I could ;-;
Yes
I’m sorry but that isn’t a “compete with piracy” argument.
For starters, it’s a game that is highly available on a platform that not only has sold tens of millions of units, it is also available for relatively cheap prices, especially if you go for outdated models.
There isn’t an availability issue or a cost issue or a distribution issue and the game runs just fine on the hardware it was developed for. You are literally pirating something and altering it to a state it was never intended to be in.
Just get a regular 1080, the leap isn’t that massive. It’s noticable depending on what you do, but a 1080 can do most of the same things at similar performance
like i said user, i dont care
one experience is objectively better than the other, so ill use that one, it just so happens to be free
Just got my Switch tonight. Only played a bit of odyssey. I prefer puppy layout, But either way it's still too small for my white man hands. Gonna have to go pro eventually.
1440p isn't a multiple of 1080p.
its because 1440p is a weird resolution you cant really multiply other resolutions to achieve it
Why would you even leave your house?
I did it once when the power went out.
>playing docked
enjoy your warped switches
>patrician tier
plays exclusively docked
>where's quentin when you need him tier
doing anything with your switch besides leaving it docked
you can take your switch to bed or around your house and it's comfy
what does it teleport to another dimension if you play it too long
>not playing docked and in bed
get a tv in your bedroom
I'm buying a Switch soon for Xenoblade, what's stopping me from using a USB Type-C cable to hook it up to the dock without actually sliding the unit inside, to play in docked mode that way?
>Game has sexy women as regular enemies
>Forces you to kill them
I wish they would make one that didn't undock and had better hardware. I live in a shithole so if I took it out of my house it would get stolen.
is xenoblade a continuation or is it a final fantasy deal where i dont need to play the other ones?
Am I the only person who has never docked my switch? I don't have a TV.
like final fantasy, there are only nods to the series as a whole.
I've actually never even plugged my dock in at all, I've used it exclusively as a handheld from minute 0. It's super, ridiculously comfy in bed and actually I'm playing Odyssey in bed right now.
If I could buy a regular ass Nintendo console and play mainline Nintendo games, with a regular ass controller I would do it in a second, and pay way more than a switch cost. Why does Nintendo hate good ol' Joe Six-pack?
I am very rarely at home anymore. Most of my use is undocked. The kickstand setup is surprisingly good, it's like carrying a tiny TV around, and you can still use a real controller.
Yes I undock my Switch, and you're a retard for not undocking yours once in a while.
The ability to use it as a handheld is what makes up for a lot of it's shortcomings as a home console. You don't even need to take it off your property, it's absolutely made to be played around the house. Play it in bed, play it while you wait for water to boil or food to cook, play it on the back porch on a nice day, don't limit yourself. I'm don't have multiple screens, so I use it in tabletop mode on my desk while I browse or watch a video. Making use of all the available modes is what elevates the Switch from a good console to an incredible one.
See my entire post you fucking shut-in. Do you just stay in one room for the majority of your time. Pathetic.
Considering they marketed it as being able to do that, no you're not the only one.
But you can do just that with the Switch you fucking retard, just like OP does. The Switch is all about playing your preferred way. It's absolutely an inferior way to experience the system but to each their own.
Yeah, and pay for peripherals that tend to be useful for 1-2 games, as well as a peripheral that's a regular ass controller. I'd just assume pay the same for a console that performs slightly better plus I miss out on waggle controls , and I don't get to play games at work like an ADHD tween
When I first got it, I played it for about 2 months solely undocked while in bed.
Then I docked it and haven't taken it off since.
>already played the game
>bought the fucking rehash
You are the cancer killing video games.
if I wanted to Bing Bing wahoo in public I'd buy newest new 3DS XL HD 1080P 3D. I just want a fucking Nintendo 2017
Nothing. People have been doing it since launch.
Didn't you say you'd "pay way more than a switch cost"? Why are you negotiating with the price now?
I've literally never docked my Switch, the dock is still in the package.
>dock switch to charge
>TV turns on
how the fuck why doesn't the PS4 do this, it's a sony TV even
Im willing to pay more for a more powerful console that comes with a regular controller, than I am willing to pay for a potentially mobile waggle tablet. I'm not negotiating the price, I'm negotiating what I get for the money.
I usually play docked. Don't have a 55 inch screen for that. I play undocked when I go to my room.
