They are feigning excitement or happiness. Women and feminized men that are addicted to social media will do this.
Either Westwood dying or Dead Space 3.
If Westwood was the turning point then there is no hope as it showed that good games don't matter. If DS3 is where it went to shit then there is hope as memes like forced coop and cover shooters die with time and there are brief episodes with less shit (like this year).

No Man's Sky reminds me of bitcoin. They hype it up and then it crashes.
3 months later.
>It's good now!!!
>sells another 100,000 copies
No it's not.
gta v
No game makes me lose faith in the industry, the consumers do with what they purchase. On the one hand you have people that buy up all kinds of mediocre no-challenge interactive movie crap and call it gold on the other hand you have people that buy up all kinds of mediocre otaku pandering fap bait crap and call that gold. It seems like the market has decided, not the publishers, that a good, solid gameplay experience is not something wanted anymore. Even with things like the Souls games you seem to have a hell of a lot of people claiming what actually makes the game good is secondary crap like lore and "cohesive" level design, not the gameplay.
If No Man's Sky made you loose faith in anything, you probably have bigger problems than video games.
Fallout 3, I think.
Dota patch 7.00
Guild Wars 2 literally killed my excitement for video games.
Now I just passively play whatever monster hunter and dark souls games that come out.
The whole console era near 2008-2009.
Watching the most negatively reviewed game of all time continue to sell doesn't bother you in the slightest?
The fact that they outwardly lied about the game having multiplayer and got away with it completely unscathed?
>Be shill who was excited for NMS
>Canceled pre-order due to financhu crisis
>Reviews come in

Diablo 3
what went wrong with video game teams
lets settle this once and for all, is that creature second to the left a male, a female, a male(female), or a female(male)?
>it crashed
That's good for bitcoin, it will spur more investment
not really of course, everything is "good for bitcoin" according to the insane people who gamble/invest with it
DmC
lmao @ filthy nocoiner cope
Not really.
I mean, in contrast to the entire industry NMS didn't do anything unusual. Developers lie and falsely market things all the time. Technically it's not even a bad game, just bland as fuck because procedural generation makes for a poor provider of content (unless you enjoy roguelikes).
In a lot of ways it was like Spore. A combination of average gameplay, great marketing and disillusioned consumers produced a drama bomb.
Dark Souls 2.
Dragon Quest IX. Handhelds and all who support them need to die.
Spore
Did they specifically collect every dickless numale to make this game?
Lol you silly communists
MGSV. 7years worth of disappointment. I want to believe Death Stranding will be a return to former glory. Only thing I'm remotely excited for now is MH World. My body is ready. Looks perfect.
Mass effect and Halo 4 were the final nails in the coffin for me.
Most Wanted (2012), Dead Space 3, Gta V, Nms ofc, Witcher 3, any nintendo game starting with n64 all of them are highly overrated

Bitcoin is largely seen as a bubble by hedge funds and financial analysts. Are these guys communists?
Warhammer total war is good
The ultimate answer is no.
You have to a retarded manchild high on a hypetrain to lose faith in video games just becase of 1 or 2 games out of the 1000000
You meant Total war after Shogun 2 and before Attila
What? You unironically think CoH2 is bad, and Rome 2 is good?
If you legitimately thought No Man's Sky was ever going to be good you are the problem with the gaming industry, no joke. Fuck off.
The first trailer should have been enough. Sean Murray being a flustered faggot on stage definitely should have been enough.
Seriously, if you legitimately at any point thought the game was going to be good, you are either underage or don't play enough video games. Either way you shouldn't be here ruining other peoples hobbies.
It was so obviously a fucking scam but you faggots will act like its the companies fault that you're gullible. They were smart. That dude is fucking rich now.
Things started turning south when Oblivion came out. I was so god damn excited-Morrowind was my favorite game. When it became clear just how warped their priorities were in terms of design, and how successful it was subsequently, I knew it was all over.
Should have better clarify that.
Shogun 2 was the last ok game.
I would even go back to medieval 2 since then they have started to remove features.
Drink it.
Tell me what you have against Warhammer 1&2

Ah yes the 5 year bubble.
Surprised more haven't said this. This really was the one that kicked off an attempt to really just treat games as way to try to actively prey on consumers.
Man, the people who were hyped for No Man's Sky were fucking annoying. They sounded like a fucking pastor preaching about God. "AND LIKE THIS MASSIVE UNIVERSE OF INFINITE POSSIBILITIES!!!"
Man, shut the fuck up. You let the hype get to your head and look what happens?
Always be fucking skeptical no matter how strong the hype is.

Although I somewhat disagree on the Souls game part though. While they shouldn't be the main focus, things like art design, presentation, music, etc. can heavily improve a game if done well. They can make it much more enjoyable to sit through and encourage repeat playthroughs if they are good enough. Of course gameplay should always take precedence, but neglecting other aspects isn't good either.
And that bit on the level design is definitely false. Level design IS gameplay. The reason why the open world meme took off is because people got sick of poorly designed linear corridor levels. And like fucking idiots they assumed that open world meant it would be better, but even now you can hear some of these idiots from time to time saying that these new open world games feel empty and boring. Gameplay is more than just how your character controls and attacks, and level design is definitely part of it.

>It's ok to ruin other people's hobbies if you're smart and become rich off it.
If you legitimately thought NMS dindu nuffin and people being gullible justifies scamming them you are a soiciopathic retarded piece of shit who shouldn't be here ruining other peoples hobbies.

Spore taught me to never be hyped for a game
I haven't had faith in the Vidya industry for years now.
>Was there a particular game that made you lose faith in the vidya industry?
Mom, i posted it again...
>reading all of this in Alex Jones' voice
I laughed so hard I started coughing holy shit
I remember all the hype, all the anticipation. Looking back I really had no way of knowing, it was a different time but the damage was done all the same.
I haven't felt the same about videogames after this.
DmC made me lost faith in the gaming press
Nintendo wii announcement, never bought anything new from them again and never will considering how shit they became
This
Pokémon Sun & Moon and USM
Absolute garbage
I hid my buyers remorse out of shame and my friend ended up buying it a couple weeks after release, I could have stopped it.
command and conquer 4 : tiberian twilight

these were my childhood games and seing what the franchises became hurts, its not even angry, just sadness
>that guy slamming booze, knowing the game is shit and the people he work with are fucking pathetic
Total War Rome 2, Bioshock Infinite.
>devs say repeatedly say MP isn't a focus or a primary concern for them
>WOW WTF WHERE'S MUH MP
99% of the people mad over NMS were people who blatently weren't following the marketing for the game and what the devs intended it to be and were just mad it wasn't what they wanted.
That being said even as somebody who WAS in the actual target audience, I was still let down due to the graphics downgrade and the fact they never added ansel support like they said they would
>not rubbing that shit in their face so they can warn you when you're about to make a bad choice
My friend saved me from buying the new CoD a few days ago because I was wouldn't stop reminding him I told him Destiny 2 would be shit then gloating about it when he hated it. he was right about Battlefront 2 years ago, for whatever reason this horrible interaction keeps us both from buying shit games usually
Not a game, but the entire gen 7 in general made me quit modern videogames. I have been pretty much only old game consoles till now and sometimes i play some classic PC games. Only reason why i still post here is because gen 6 is still outlawed in /vr/

The devs stated that it will have multiplayer at launch and people were mad at them for lying.
no one follows 100% the development/marketing of a game
And the developer straight up lied about multiplayer, he told in various interviews about online mode
This game man.... fuck this game.
I was probably not even in high school at the time. Put this in my ps2. So fucking excited for some more Sonic Adventure 2 greatness.
I could not even believe how terrible, clunky, unresponsive, and glitchy it was. Even as a kid I was just floored. The drastic quality difference between this game and previous 3D sonics was IMMEDIATELY obvious for me even as a kid just from the first level.
From then on every game I thought I'd like I'd be so worried it'd be a waste of money / time.
tbqh the only reason i knew no mans sky would be shit from the get go is because ive seen it before so many times so its very easy to tell when a dev is lying or exaggerating to build up hype, molyneux, todd howard, etc
if i was younger i could see myself falling for it, we've all got to start somewhere
Mass Effect 3 made me realize the evils and problems that hounds the development of a game. and that no quantity of hype will ever change that.
But MGS:TPP being unfinished just settled the deal. Before I was wary of games and made sure to research before buying, but this made me lose faith on the industry, robbing us of such potential...
>Game devs back in the 90's
>A bunch of bros in a basement making video games or a small team of passionate creators in a company
>Game devs now
>It's either one guy, a group of film rejects wanting to make "muh cinematic experience", or a bunch of greedy businessmen
Have you taken the soypill?
DMC 2
I know that feel, I'm getting that same vibe from Star Citizen.
>he actually believes this mass-marketed meme perpetuated by indie devs
Its not the game itself but the people that put this game on some sort of pedestal. A nonsensical unrewarding story with characters with questionable actions, extremely varied environments poorly tied together that makes a jarring experience, average 3rd person shooting even at the time with everyone taking way too many bullets, and most of the game takes place in charted areas. Its a decent game at its best and a predictably frustrating at its worst but I hate the fans and reviewers the most. This game made me not be able to take anyone's opinion seriously.
I'll never be same after metal gear.
Its a classic example of the same situation as Evil Within 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. The first game was seen as completely average, so when the sequel actually made improvements all across the board it was commendable. I understand what you mean though.
The PS3 also had no games so
Nu Male's Sky might have been garbage but most people realized that and eventually the game just got ignored.
Battlefront II? Now THAT's a game that will make you lose faith in the industry. It's everything bad about EA and this entire hobby all rolled up into one shitty package.
STRAFE showed me how much incorrect advertising can build up hype for a game, and the have the game be a different category then what the hype train passengers were looking for.
>"muh retro" crowd bamboozled by rogue-lite shooter
MGSV was the last time I was hyped for a game.
I feel like I'm by myself cause I thought the first Uncharted was good experience a 8/10. The shooting may not have been as good as the second one but the story flowed well from one set piece to another weaving in different time eras, character cast was small, simple, and everyone had a role to play. While the environment wasn't too varied it was appropriate for the story and didn't fall into the usual adventure story tropes that the second one did. It was overall a fun ride.
I also liked the 4th one too for similar reasons even with its blatant flaws
