Beating the Fate in a Liberation Rite, finding out about what happened with the old Nightwings, Hedwyn's goodbye when he leaves before the rest of you do, the genuine sense of love which develops between you and your triumvirate, Sandra trying to push you away and the bond you grow by the end, and Volfred and Oralech both volunteering their freedom so the Reader could go home all hit me super fucking hard - but only the last one finally broke me. The credits kept the tears flowing though, especially the song.

Christ it was like being hit with the sequence in Bastion where you save Zulf ten times in a row.

I cared more about ensuring my family had a happy ending than I did about ensuring one for them.

Honestly though, knowing what I do now about the endgame setups I might have actually let Bae, Jodi, and Hedwyn stay down there since each can find a perfectly happy life down there together and with their lovers - if not for the fact it turns the revolution violent or causes it to fail.

I made the mistake of savescumming my first playthrough, looking forward to getting my ass kicked in a True Nightwing run and giving a lot more tension to the rites

also did anyone ever actually use the abilities that require you to salute? I would always just go for passive buffs over those

I'm pretty sure Pamitha, Volfred, and the others would all live with the guilt for the rest of their lives knowing that they might have been able to keep things peaceful if more of them had been there - and I just ain't willing to tolerate that.

Nope, didn't even learn about saluting properly until somewhere after my fourth liberation rite because its not mentioned in the tutorial. Figured that shit was about when a goal is scored and both teams are lined up together or the gestures at the start of a round, which made it sound useless.

Then again I also beat the game without ever throwing the ball since I forgot you could do it outside of passes for so long that playing without it became a habit, so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask.

truthfully i don't think pamitha was characterized too well outside of her vamp gimmick and sister complex, but volfred was a pretty sympathetic dude all around

In fairness he's happy either way and even if he goes back just becomes a hermit who hangs out with the crew sometimes.

That said you can 100% believe I sent him back despite being my best scorer after he said he'd refuse to return until he had regained his personal sense of dignity at the first Liberation Rite. The second that little worm bastard told the Pyrehearts to get fucked and gushed about the true meaning of honor and how great the Nightwings were I knew it was time and that he had earned it.

I also did it without ever losing a match on Standard, aside from deliberately throwing the last one for the other side's sake to see what would happen.

And I just got really good at keeping someone quick on defence to intercept instead.

Yeah, Pamitha felt a bit weak to me too despite liking her - which is why she was my third or so ally sent back. I liked her scenes with Jodi and Hedwyn though, brief as they were, and the idea of her and Rukey becoming drinking pals is sorta amusing.

[spoiler[Felt slightly annoyed that she's the only Nightingale to be said to feel like she has no home and leave to go travelling though, given I thought that everyone else felt like they'd found one together. Made it seem like it mattered less to her than the others.

I left the tree, the snake and the bat since all of them really didnt need to go back. The tree probably wanted to get back the most but I couldnt really not leave myself since i had to get orb cutie out of downside before all exits close. Leaving Sandra in downside is too cruel since eventually as centuries go nobody will be left in there as everyone dies out. At least in the outside world she wont have a lack of owners.
Bat seemed to mostly want to go outside because it seemed intresting and snake didnt even give a shit if she left.

Yeah, it does feel like they're sort of the 'easy' trio to leave behind if you're going for a seven Nightwings sent back run. They're sorta self-sufficient with a purpose driving each, and if you manage to keep Oralech alive too then they can all be outright happy as well.

Good God I'd never considered the Sandra thing though. I know that in all likelihood there'll always be a few people down there somehow or other, but with the Rites over for the age, her fellow phantoms moving on, and no more exiles being sent who fucking knows how many centuries or millennia she could be on her own before being found when they resume. That's just fucked up.

ol' hedwyn gets left out i reckon, though i do recall a cute scene with him and sleeping bertrude, maybe they were banking on you freeing him first?

since ignarius did nothing wrong you can free him, and then jodariel since there's not too much dialogue with her i wager

Jodariel and Hedwyn both get some dialogue where they grow closer to Pamitha, though I don't fully remember how it comes about - might just be automatic after fighting Pamitha again. The Hedwyn stuff is really just there to give you the ability to give him a happy ending if he stays and she leaves, though, and the Jodi stuff gets no mention in the epilogue.

It does sorta feel like Hedwyn is expected to be sent back first given his lack of a relationship with another Triumvirate, but since I've not done a playthrough where he's stuck around long enough to encounter The True Nightwings I cannot say for sure if he has any sort of unique scenes caused by them. Personally though I think the Ti'zo stuff is expendable since I don't give much of a fig about Lendel and outside of Ti'zo cussing him out being funny it doesn't grow him much as a character after their first Rite against eachother (which I think unlocks more of his backstory?)

Also now that I think about it Jodi also gets her friendship with *ae unlocked also, which is important to the epilogue you get, so she's definitely worth keeping until you do that if you're planning to keep them together.

yeah i think i'm dodging lendel whenever possible, he makes up for his piss-easy first rite by being the toughest non-true nightwings matches later on

oh crap really? for my earlier playthrough i let jodariel go really early, thinking that she probably shouldn't be in the downside any longer, on top of demons not named ora"fuck the scribes"lech being kind of terrible

Yeah, they have a bonding moment over Jodi learning how hard her life was before she found you guys and giving her a bear hug while saying she's stronger than most of the soldiers she's known. It affects how intense their friendship is in the epilogue, and iirc even causes some pain for Jodi if she gets sent back while *ae stays behind.
Though you're not wrong that Jodi really does deserve to go home sooner than most of the rest do.

I actually found the Chastity the hardest fights after the TN, Saps are a fucking pain to fight against imo.

Agreed. But on the flip side, Volfred was one of my favourite characters to use, along with the hag. Coincidentally, their friendship was also one of my favourite parts.

People who spoil themselves to try figure out how to get the ending they want missed and essentially ruined the point of the game, but I cannot see why you'd not do it on a replay when you know most of the twists and lore of the game and are probably just playing to get a specific ending setup.

I luckshitted my way into the '''''''best''''''' ending I could ask for on my first playthrough though. Literally lost to Oralech just because I forgot I'd respecced Volfred to not have his 'revive with ten points when you lose' mastery right before the Rite.

Volfred was my last guy to get out, and I got all of the new Nightwings out. When he offered me a chance to get out in his place, I was -so- tempted.

At least my protag gets to travel an interesting world with Sandra.

I was really close to throwing the match and letting Almer and Dalbert win on my first run, but I ended up winning to free as many as my people as I could.

It was pretty depressing.

There's no min-maxing because there's no perfect ending. People just trying different situations. I really liked it when I beat down teh Fates like 3 times then let them win the liberation rite and sent Fae afterwords.

That's actually somewhat impressive. I might play in English instead of Japanese when it comes to PC and stops getting story DLC/patches if the rest of the dub is that well done.

The only thing I've noticed like that is that Oralech's final encounter changes whether you crush him 3-0 or let him win narrowly.

Ah, that's kinda disappointing. About to do my first replay after winning every match besides the last one on my first and was hoping I could maybe throw for the Fate to see how they react to me showing mercy.

The dub is extremely good all around.
Noctis, as you can see, is very very good. I like his english voice actor a ton in this game and he puts in a really solid performance overall.
Ignis is a lot more unbalanced, being somewhat emotionless at times. Though he has his good moments.
Prompto is solid overall, though his performance in the DLC is pretty soap-opera esque.
Gladio straight up sucks. Dude cannot emote for the life of him and it's super lame. Whenever he's either angry or cocky, however, he turns in an excellent performance.

Rest of the dub is pretty good all around, with Ardyn being the only other really wow performance.

I thought Ignis was supposed to be that, though I expected HIM to be the one to freak out about his eyes, he remained pretty nonchalant about it throughout the whole game.

Ignis is intended to be like that, but there are some segments where he just doesn't emote at all or the intonation in his lines is wrong.
For example, the Noctis "ebony coffee" line is meant to have him retort with an enthusiastic "yes it is", but it instead comes across as potentially a little annoyed which isn't the intention at all.

Have a pretty good resilience to stuff that is supposed to be sad, heart-wrenching or tragic since most of the times they make a whole show about it with sad violin music and whatnot and I can't shake the feeling of the devs sitting beside me saying "ITS TIME TO BE SAD NOW". But when it comes to these garbage ass moments I don't see coming I can't really not react.

'Cause it's a sentimental feeling. Cappy is right, you have come a long way, and he's been such a goofy helpful character so for him to wrap up his character arc with a final "you're awesome" but more heartfelt at what's basically the real conclusion of the game is pretty satisfiying.

I cried at the Festival redux in SMG for the same reasons. Just a fucking cavalcade of being told how hype I am for beating the game 100% twice is super satisfying. Granted I was like 10 at the time so whatever

The only liberation rite I lost on my playthrough was to the harpies when they started straight up cheating.

I'd like to have another go and try to let the Fates win on my next playthrough.

The one thing I REALLY dislike is that you can't get all the scenes between Jod and Ign and free them both. I did a whole playthough where I would throw every match against them I could but its impossible to get the Tempers enough favor for a second liberation rite.

Im one of those babies that cry in most all ending credits/sequences. Especially if the music is touching or it gives a "Thanks for playing!"
I think the last game I beat was Pikmin 3. Didn't hit me as hard though as the others though.

I know this after ending the game and looking back, but I cant say I didn't get fucking mad when he swoop in and was already "Good job reader now fuck off I'm the reader" when we first met, never managed to let go of the feeling i had at that moment. Some point later he asks about freedom and gave a "you must have had a pretty bad childhood :^)" reply which at this point he doomed himself to the Downside with Me, Bertrude, and Ti'zo. yeah im fucking petty

Getting the ending that is your ending and nobody elses and then discussing the outcomes to see what the best and worst cases were was hella fun when the game launched.

Anyone else find themselves not thinking of Volfred and Bertrude as 'true' Nightwings in a sense? They weren't there for the first journey, so they never really felt like they were part of MY crew - even though they stayed around longer than nearly all of them by the end.
