nostalgia

Making a political statement with a game that shouldn't have any politics.

>we got the people who made classic game you loved
>all artists, music makers
>no actual programmers, level designers

Same mistake as every Kickstarter

the game was sold on the basis that it was "the old rare team getting back together" but there were a lot of key designers that didn't come back.

/thread

What political statement did this game make? Looks like shovelware.

No one cares about that. The real problems are with the game design. Can you just stop bringing this up every time? It's irrelevant.

>Bringing politics into nothing, especially concerning a guy many people loved anyways
Not even the biggest issue but it is one.
>”Rare is back!”
>Rare was not back
>Bland as hell game riding another game’s coattails

>political statement
You mean the same anti-corporate greed sentiment movies and many games have been doing for years?

not him but i disagree i think its very relevant. see the developers of the latest Wolfenstein

It just didn't have enough character. Grant Kirkhope's better work was in AHiT anyway.

>kekstarter reaches the DLC goals
>no DLC in sight, or ever mentionned again
HUM SWEETIE EXCUSE ME BUT EXPLAINS THIS TO ME OKIES? THANKIES~

Nah, that was overblown in relation to the actual impact it had on reception. and are the real issue.

>Kickstarter says they want to make a throwback Rareware style collectathon
>They deliverer on what they said they would make
>People flip their shit
I don't get the hate everyone likes to throw at this game. It wasn't terrible it was decent at best.

Was sold using nostalgia over substance.

not that, they are talking about the Jontron controversy, they fired him and erased any part involving him bc he had different opinions, while claiming at the same time they do care about diversity of any kind.

The fuck are you talking about nigger? The only thing that could be seen as politically charged might be the corporate bee being the antagonist, which is a common trope and has been for decades.

What went wrong was they tried to mimic the series it claimed to hail from despite not understanding it whatsoever. Maps were massive while being completely empty, characters standing out like a sore thumb in every map and not being designed for the areas they're in, quick movement not being fully unlocked until halfway through the game, and bland as fuck music.

It was a pretty good game. Definitely had some issues but too many people apparently expected some Odyssey-level reinvention of the 3D platformer and not the N64 throwback collectathon it always promised it would be. Tooka-Laylee is going to be GOTY material

they said in the latest reddit AMA that they're working on it now that the switch version is done

yes, yes soyim, buy the game!

It wasn't that bad.
The rolling move was a little finnicky and was basically a talon trot that controlled like shit, putting in a free flying move in a platformer was a huge mistake, the transformations were ass, and the writing wasn't great, but otherwise it had solid gameplay and music.

>Definitely had some issues but too many people apparently expected some Odyssey-level reinvention of the 3D platformer and not the N64 throwback collectathon
A Hat in Time is a throwback collectathon, YL is a test in tedium.

A Hat in Time is also 5 hours long.

AHiT felt more like a Sunshine sequel than a Rare-style collectathon. Backed the KS and enjoyed it well enough but Y-L was definitely more the type of game I was looking for.

Still exists in the unpatched Xbone version

I’ll take a short game that’s fun to play over a long game that’s painful to play any day.

The devs removed one of the voice actors from the game after he said a bunch of horrifically racist shit on a stream in front of thousands of people. Sup Forums was outraged that a company didn't want to be associated with him

Its not that his opinions were different, but that they were blatantly offensive. When will you guys learn that not all opinions are equal and never were?

>white people should become a minority in their own country
Gb2 Africa or Mexico or whatever 3rd world shithole you crawled out from

>"I don't think uncontrolled mass immigration of people with culture and religion different from ours is a good idea"
>horrifically racist

Not all opinions are equal, and those eschewing race realism are the lesser.

>Horrifically racist

Quote something he said that was trully racist, I dare you

>claiming that white people shouldn't become minorities in their own countries is blatantly offensive
Back to your third world hellhole, shitskin.

He literally said that wealthy black Americans commit more crimes than poor whites

How are you getting an Internet connection in your trailer, Cletus?

there is a little thing calle ''stadistic numbers'', people tend to base their opinions or make decisions acording to what the numbers tell.

Is it true though?

How to ruin a thread in one easy step.

So what? That doesn't nullify the reat of his argument

Except there is no actual evidence for this

How's the smell of your own farts today, California?

How is that horrifically racist. At worst it's misinformed. He didn't pull that statistic out of his ass, it was based on some Sup Forums graph that was getting passed around as real.

ESL please go.

Yes, (((They))) wouldn't want you to know about it.

I liked it. It had some frustrating parts in the arcade games. Music was excellent and the levels were mostly good to decent. Looking forward to their next game.

This is why AHIT was the better platformer.

Say you're Playtonic. Someone that you have paid to represent a product you have produced says something that alienates an entire demographic of people, along with a lot of people who are sympathetic to said demographic. What do you do?

Because it was pedo wank bait? Yeah, I can see why Sup Forums prefers it

poor level design
poor enemy design
poor game design

Nothing? Nintendo got away with years of employing an open pedophile. In a PR position no less.

Hat actually had the cuter furry husbandos.

So you'd be willing to potentially lose a large amount of potential customers to keep the approval of a fringe demographic who likely wouldn't buy your game anyway?

>D I V E R S I T Y

Taking Sup Forums's word on statistics (or really anything) is horrifically dumb though

Don't you dare diss our boy Reggie.

>Hat in Time hired Jon tron
Good trolling and marketing.

i mean she got fired, but sadly it wasn't by the fact she was a pedophile supporter.

Most potential customers of these games don't give a fuck about youtube drama. You're essentially trading approval of one fringe demographic for the approval of another fringe demographic.

>Everyone that disagrees with me is racist and so can be denonized and marginalized
Leftists are pathetic. Make me sick.

>"I don't think immigrants that assimilate are good because they enter the gene pool"
>not racist

>Unity

Forgot your profile pic.

>pulling up crime data from fbi.gov
>horrifically racist

Like it or not, being against interracial relationships is a position that's firmly outside the Overton Window these days.

It plays like a 90's platformer despite being made in 2017. Also thought it looked ugly.

Surprise surprise

Unless you're jewish.

discussing crime statistics is as neutral as it gets. Destiny race baited the shit out of that discussion. Nothing that Jontron said was necessarily wrong or abhorrent.

Where the fuck did all these cucks come from? Jesus.

Most of the music for one thing. Compare
youtube.com/watch?v=rH2SF01LQ9o
to youtube.com/watch?v=LSKw9EtJx1U

Also the inside of Yooka-Laylee's temple is a single small room with a very simple puzzle. While Tooie's temple is an entire dungeon that ends in a boss fight.

I would say interracial relationships would be considered either "Acceptable" or "Sensible" depending on your opinions of the topic.

It looks lame. Children have standards too, you know.

it's actually amazing and other platformers could learn a thing or two from it

I pirated it and played through most of it during the first few days of release on PC since it didn't get a day1 switch release. I thought it was fun, definitely spent a few hours playing it, but it wasn't BK that's for sure.

Heard they fixed a lot of stuff and it recently got released on switch. Was considering picking it up and giving it another shot, but I saw they still want full price for it.

IDK but I avoided it for a year because of Sup Forums and just played it due to the PS4 sale and I loved it. 100%'d it. It wasn't as good as BK but it was great. It definitely could have been better but it was almost exactly what I expected.
