Im like halfway through ch 8 and ive got just over 100 hours. The side quests take a fuck ton of time and give you JACK FUCKING SHIT! So I stopped doing them because salvaging gives you way more money and raises the dev level super fast. The only other time waster is getting all the rare blades through certain side quests and random core crystals and some arent even worth it trying to get

Even though I'm only about 12 hours in at ch 3, I left my switch in sleep mode without closing the software so the hour count is inflated to 60.

75 hours. But I spent more than double that afterwards doing all the side content I could. Why are you people so obsessed with doing that kind of stuff before you finish the game.

it's more fun to do things at appropriate levels
that's why the developers made it significantly harder to overlevel through the inn exp system letting you not take levels but still do a large amount of side content

I don't get it either. I just did what I did for XCX and mollywopped all of the quests after hitting the level cap.

What really bothers me is people actually grinding the krabbles for fucking hours when you can make the stronger uniques shit out Legendary cores like crazy.

63 hours done all the shit I wanted to do and really enjoyed the game, there's shit loads of other games to play so no need to keep grinding side quests and other shit for nothing when I can move on to another cool game

Vandham isn't really that good. He can Launch, I think, which would go after Nia and Rex or Tora Topple the enemy, but it's not a mighty need or anything. Swap him for Rex or Tora if you really wanna use him for a bit.

Also don't waste your time with Rex's Sword Bash, Rolling Smash is where it's at. It's especially useful if you have both him and Vandham, since he'll be drawing aggro and getting bopped all the time and is just overall powerful as fuck.

Which artes should Rex have? I have Back/Rolling/Side on him at the moment.

I had Anchor Shot, Double Spin Edge and Rolling Smash on him all game, AS gets more useful in a bit because you'll be able to inflict Topple with it, if it were just healing potions I wouldn't have kept it.

It's never really slow if you know what you're doing, but yeah, there'll be ways to speed up the arts recharge later. It can get quite ridicolous.

making any sort of commitment to interesting build is heavily discouraged by game itself
therefore no, battle system is meh and there is no point looking farther than one solution to everything

Sounds like I'm in for a long ass ride. It took me close to 60 to get to prison island in the original and that was only half the game.

Um, so you’re properly leveled without just grinding mobs endlessly. Plus as you level higher, the quests decrease in experience so by the time you’re done the main quest none of the earlier side quests grant XP anymore.

Can anyone help explain the combat in this game to me? I'm about 6 hours in and I've just saved nia from being "executed" but i still don't feel like I've got the hang of the battle system yet. I tap the sticks slightly after every swing to quickly build up the meter that lets me use my.. specials? I know I'm doing less damage but you get continuous hits and I only do that when I need to use anchor shot for quick healing, i know about storing my special with pyra up to IV but it talks about a lot of other things and a lot more shows up on screen and I just have no fucking clue

Because when you finish the game somewhere around level 60 - 70 and then start to do early game side quests they are boring as shit.
Best to do them as they come. You don't even need to grind if you happen to get stuck on some main story fight because doing a few side quests will help you level up nicely.

Willing to bet that the reward for beating that side-quest is nothing valuable anyway, just like every other sidequest besides the three that give you Vess/Praxis/Theory.

Yes. By looking at the effects tree in the top tight you’ll know which order to command arts to create seals and element orbs. For instance, the tree may show a bunch of elements but they all lead to seals in paths of 3. You could have Tora use stone then nia use aqua then you trigger roc with a level 3 wind attack. Using those three in order places a seal on the enemy such as blowdown, self destruct, shackle driver/blade etc. also, after the combo an element orb will be placed in the enemy based on the element of the final attack that triggered the blade combo. In this instance, since roc Was last, the orb would be wind.
Once you have an orb (or orbs) on the enemy you should trigger a chain attack by pushing + when your party gauge is full. During this chain, when you attack, you can damage the orb or break it by using attacks of opposing elements. Breaking an orb allows you to continue the chain attack for another round for every orb you break. This is really important mid-game on.

it adds some info about Uraya nobels in lore which will never be mentioned again, but that's just merc 5 sidequest, all you get is more shitty merc missions to get some shitty passive bonuses
