I dislike the 1070 because it’s a weird inbetween card. It will play everything at 1080p flawlessly. But will struggle with some games at 1440p.

I'm playing Dying Light at 1440p, usually around 110-120fps, with Witcher 3 I'm getting between 60-80 at 1440p.
With Rise of the Tomb Raider I'm getting around 60-90. You'll have to tweak some setting to get high framerates but you can get them.

At 60hz? Sure. Above not so much. I'd get a 1070 to for up to 100hz and a 1080 for 100hz+

When people recommend a gpu, they're usually saying it's good for med-high settings.
My watercooled 1080 struggles to stay at 60fps consistently at 1440p on ultra in Witcher 3, and that's several years old already.
