THE FUTURE OF THE SWITCH

let's talk about the future of Nintendo's Switch, Sup Forums
I feel they actually came out TOO strong with TOO many of the good classic Nintendo games. We're not even a year in and we already got Zelda, Mario and Xenoblade. What is there to look forward to now? We're not getting a NEW Zelda, Mario or Xenoblade. Indie games? Ports from Wii U? Multiplats? Seriously what is there to look forward to? I'm not very interested in labo but I fear it will sell insanely well and push Nintendo to focus on that instead of, you know...actual games.

Thoughts?

um, their biggest game series, Smash Bros.?
And SMTV too.

Metroid prime 4, fire emblem, maybe an animal crossing and it' totally possible to have another Xenoblade if the previous one sold well

All of these games...?

When a new Smash Bros comes out for it sales will explode once again.

Well monolith is working on their next switch game already, and then I'd imagine Odyssey and BOTW will get "sequels" on switch (BOTW more like a Majora to Ocarina situation)

Not a single game on that list is mainstream or a console seller except for maybe pokemon.

Don't forget Pokemon and Animal crossing, both > 10 million sellers on 3DS.

You make a good observation. There isn't anything to look forward to. I also doubt Nintendo has a sequel to BOTW in the making. It will all be just DLC for the next 2 years.

Same for Odyssey.

Games just don't get sequels anymore and since Xenoblade came out too (or rather was rushed out) you now have a console with nothing but multiplatform titles planned.

So...more ports/remasters than actual new games? Gotcha...

Jesus it's like you guys are intentionally ignorant about the announcements Nintendo makes...

>New HD console Pokemon
>Hopefully a new Animal Crossing that's actually the next game after New Leaf
>New Super Smash Bros
The Switch is fine.

Since we technically got a Mario Kart for this generation, I hope they pick a different racing series to make for the Switch. Even though it's never happening, a new F-Zero would be cool. I'd personally want a new Diddy Kong Racing with bigger tracks and the ability to mix item balloons together. It would also be cool to see them try a different racing spinoff or even make an original racing IP. I'm also curious to see what they'll do if they just make another Mario Kart. It'd have to be a pretty substantial change from 8 Deluxe in order to not feel like a rehash.

What's with Donkey Kong? As far as I know, the series sells pretty well.

You're overly worried. They already confirmed that another Zelda is in the works for the Switch, it's exactly like how the Wii got a gamecube Zelda port at launch and then got it's own Zelda later on. Mario gets like 5 games per console, we'll see 2 or 3 more minimum.

We're still getting all of the announced games, like a Fire Emblem main series title, a Pokemon title, a Metroid title, and then also later getting huge titles like Smash and Animal Crossing.

Labo doesn't matter, it's basically just a minigame compilation they split into 2 games based on the accessories they use. 1-2-Switch didn't doom the system, Labo won't either.

It's not even like the Switch is in a bad place right now anyway. I can't wait to find out the official sales figures next Wednesday, the shitposting potential is amazing.

>Nintendoomed because they're too good right now
Jesus christ this is getting pathetic.

>Pokémon
>Animal Crossing almost guaranteed
>Fire Emblem
>Bayonetta 3
>Metroid Prime 4 (and possibly Metroid 5)
>Pikmin 4
>Super Smash Bros.
>Another Zelda game confirmed to be in the works
Granted, a lot of this stuff might not be soon, but it's not exactly looking bleak at the moment.

It's going to have the entire Bayonetta trilogy, Smash, Metroid 4, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I don't care if it gets any more games. This modern obsession with buying hundreds of games isn't rational or healthy. Listen to what you're actually saying. "I can't wait to give more of my money to some rich guy for a toy!" Truth hurts, but when you hit 35 and suddenly realise you're an old infant, it's not pretty.

>Sony ponies STILL mad about Bayonetta
>Most anticipated sequel since metal gear
>SMTV
Yeah who could possibly be excited for those games?

>no good multiplats
>exclusives will dry up
>$70 cardboard
It'll be dead within 2 years.

Nintendo's orgasms last for seven years, they don't have to worry about blowing their load too early.

>too many good games!

Seriously?

Nice bait.

A return of classic and long dormant IP followed by some of the most diverse and interesting new software any gaming platform will see in it's lifetime. Nintendo has too many cards to play.

>maybe Pokemon
>maybe
>Pokemon

>maybe

Plus
> Octopath
> 2d Mario or Mario3DLand/World like
> Mario Maker

I'm talking about how successful these games will be, not how popular they may or may not be. All things considered Bayo is a pretty niche game, but I'll be picking it up for sure.

Has there been any word on cloud saves? Every time I think about my 250hr zelda save, 120hr mario save etc I legit feel anxiety build up inside me.

The moment it gets the next Smash Bros game the Switch will make all the money in the world.

Why the anxiety? If saves are deleted, it gives you another reason to play through the games in a few years. Jesus, these are games. You're not getting paid for hour many hours you submit to Nintendo at the end of the year. When you were a kid did you count all the hours you spent playing with marbles or board games?

> Not a single game on that list is mainstream or a console seller except for maybe pokemon.

Xenoblade and Octopath Traveler were actually the tip on the scale for me to buy a Switch.

because I'm a fucking hermit loser that care about shit like that. I still have my playstation memory card with a maxed out FF7 save.

They will never focus on Labo and delay games to make more Labo sets if it actually does sell well long term. The Labo teams are probably greenhorn programmers that Nintendo are unleashing on something like this to get their toes wet.

They should announce something soon or they'll lose traction and sales will fall. That's probably what they're waiting for actually

>cloud saves
When the service shuts down, you won't be able to access your saves.

A new Zelda could be announced in 2 years. BOTW is a wiiU port after all.And they said those DLC were all we'll get, so they don't seem to want to milk it that much

I hope for a new Smash Bros game, but I can already feel the Wii U port incoming.

If they follow up on the pattern of a Direct Mini being followed up by a proper direct within 20 days, then they might show off some more stuff within 6 days (unless Labo was supposed to be a replacement for a proper direct, which seems a bit silly).

I just want Animal Crossing news and a fucking Virtual Console

The VC is especially egregious, not a word on it and we are a year in

I'm nervous. Is the Switch momentum halted after less than a year?

We still need a friggin stream for the online.
hopefully that will be the occasion for them to show a "surprise" game that heavily requires said online.
This is where I see Mario maker coming back.

That new Yoshi game honestly looks like garbage. I understand it’s targetted at really young children, but so are Kirby games. At least Kirby games have some redeeming qualities for older players, but the new Yoshi has nothing going for it. Even the gimmick of playing levels again from the backside is fucking boring.

>direct mini happens
>wait for the next direct
>nintendo labo
Guys

DBZ is a blunder in the USA? well shit.

The labo announcement wasn't the direct. Quit trying to force this meme.

New Smash in two years, and possibly even a new Mario Kart in the same year.

Lets not forget Pokemon, Metroid, Fire Emblem and possibly AC soon.

They still have a lot of great stuff coming.

>I hope for a new Smash Bros game, but I can already feel the Wii U port incoming.
If they were doing a quick port we would have had Smash 2017 and Odyssey 2018. There's no chance they'd wait this long for a port of a game they know will sell well.

Smash is hard to do straight ports on because of the licensing, they don't own quite a few of the characters that made it into Smash 4, especially DLC ones.

Maybe we'll end up getting "Smash 4 Switch" as a mostly-reused-assets game, but it wouldn't just be the WiiU game again. If they did it this way, it would be the full WiiU game, but also all of the 3DS stages and some 3DS extras like all trophies from both, and all of the DLC built in for free, and then something else to draw people in like how Mariokart 8 Deluxe had Battle Mode and some new popular characters. Hell, I'd bet on an Inkling character getting in, Ice Climbers returning, and maybe even an all new mode.

Newsflash for ya: Fire Emblem sells consoles these days

>Wii U comes out
>BAWWWW NOT ENOUGH GOOD GAMES ON LAUNCH
>Switch comes out
>BAWWWW TOO MANY GOOD GAMES ON LAUNCH
Will Sup Forums ever stop hating Nintendo?

No need to be nervous. There's no way it's going to be as bad as the Wii U and even the Wii U was worth owning if you're weren't obsessed with buying hundreds of games a year.

There HAS to be a direct soon

There are no set dates for any first party games after Kirby

No ports dont count, we need actual games to look forward to.

Yoshi is closest and its still TBA, everything else is Holiday if we are lucky, but more likely 2019.

On WiiU you can make as many copies of your games and saves as you want-care to invest. Now I worry about my gamepad.

They are probably looking for a way to make a full price sell, their numbers probably show that people on Switch are mostly already on Nintendo and got those games.

>a new Mario Kart in the same year.
I don't see them make a brand new MK. If anything it's gonna be a big DLC expansion.
For instance a big back of retro tracks

This year is probably going to be a lull in the switch's release schedule in terms of blockbuster games as the bigger development studios shift from Odyssey, BotW, MK8D, and ARMS to new games. We shouldn't get anything too big until 2019 or maybe late 2018. Labo seems to be Nintendo's way of filling time and broadening their demographic by letting it be used as a creativity tool

There is no "new" Smash coming or Kart. You can forget about it because the Wii U wasn't popular. We'll get ports and that's it. If we're really lucky, we might get an F-zero, but I wouldn't bet on it.

>no new smash
lol

>Famitsu: Nintendo Switch users may be worried about next year’s lineup, with both staple titles such as Mario and Zelda, as well as new hit titles such as Splatoon having already come out for the system.
>Yoshiaki Koizumi, producer of Super Mario Odyssey: Nintendo still have many IPs which have not come out for the system, and also more than just existing IPs in store as well. We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t even thought about, which will be released steadily over the next two years. We hope to make games which resonate with players using this process, so please patiently look forward to it.
soon...

Sorry, not going to happen. They'll port the Wii U one and call it a day. Barely anybody owned a Wii U, so nobody played it. It's "new" to everybody that owns a Switch.

But I want it to keep breaking records

mario striker WHEN?

How do you put "no new Smash or MK for switch" and then "an F-Zero game" in the same sentence? That is quiet a leap.

Wouldn't mind that especially if they added a Double Dash/Co-Op mode to it, it would be the percfect Mario Kart experience at that point.

Only thing in question here is your sanity. Of course a game like MHW is going to be at the top of the Amazon best sellers chart near or at launch. Hell, it didn't even show up on the list until preorders started and only after Labo and GoW left the top was it able to be seen. tl;dr - CALM DA FUCK DOWN

Sup Forums hates everything. It's safe to assume anyone who uses the word Nintendogaf is either a newfag or an invader.

>Nintendo actually paid famitsu to damage control when they realized switch will be dry in 2018
Soon, as in wait 2 years for more games.

Except tons of people owned the 3DS, and Smash was basically the same on 3DS with the exception of some stages.

It won't be a port, we would have seen it by now if they were porting it because a port doesn't take that long to make and Smash is a massive seller. They aren't going to do a port of Smash when they know people will buy way more if it's a new game.

>If I'm stupid but say it seriously all Sup Forums will elect me the leader of their board for sure
you need help

>biggest development studios
there's 11 EPD development teams plus Retro and Monolith and for the moment only 5 of them have released games for switch

Weak as fuck lineup, Nintendo burns up fast.

idiot, troll or both?

>tfw Wario will STILL be Dead in 2018 even thorugh SML2 turned 25 and Warioware turns 15 this year

Haha, everyone, get it? He's pretending we haven't already had it confirmed that tons of new titles are coming out in the next two years. He's pretending we don't already know Pokemon and Metroid and Fire Emblem and Kirby and Yoshi and tons of other games have already been confirmed for the near future. Isn't he funny and witty for being able to pretend he doesn't know the facts?

When Virtual Console finally hits this thing I want them to absolutely rip the fuck off how Sony handles their PS1 classics.

It's absolutely fucking infuriating to me that when the Wii U came out, despite transferring all my shit to the Wii U, when the games were released on the Wii U side of the OS Nintendo made me pay a fucking dollar just to be allowed the privilege of playing on my shiny new tablet. The second strike came when they """"""""""""linked"""""""""""""" the 3DS and Wii U accounts "together", despite being able to go into my recent purchases and see that I bought say, Mario 3 on the Wii U, I was still told I needed to buy it again on 3DS.

Compare that to something like Playstation or Steam. I got my PS3, I bought Resident Evil 2. They added PS1 support to PSP, all I had to do was copy the game (and even my save file!) over to my PSP, and I could keep going. Then, years later when the Vita came out, I could still copy over or redownload those same fucking games (and once again, even the saves) over to my Vita or Vita TV, which is actually how I beat Suidoken and Xenogears as a busy adult.

Considering you still use the same fucking account on your Switch that you made for Wii U and 3DS, I am going to shit a fucking brick if they're going to ask me to buy Link to the Past for a third fucking time which I know I will like a good little cuck.

>inb4 some dense cunt tries to use "hurrr well did they give you the GBA version for free" like I've seen before

I do too, but only because it's funny reading the angry comments. I'm more than happy with the Switch because I like my Wii U and now it's portable. I can play the games I have and it looks like more great ones are coming. I'm trying to cut back my gaming hours so I can focus on other interests. I like the idea of games like Tetris and Mario Kart that I can put down for two months and still come back to later. I let gaming as a hobby take over my life and the only thing it ever did for me was eat money and time.

>We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t even thought about
Well, you got me there

Prove me wrong. What CONFIRMED 2018 game is worth the $300 Switch.

>Nintendo might be too good for its own good

When's Animal Crossing?
When's Pokemon?
When's Smash Bros?
When's Metroid Prime 4?
When's Bayonetta 1/2 and Bayonetta 3?

Come on Nintendo throw me a bone.

I think a new Zelda is actually closer than we think. It'll be a similar situation with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.
And it'll probably be a direct sequel to botw, cause it just took to long to make with too much effort to just start from scratch again.

But idk.

I did say I wouldn't bet on it, but if Nintendo puts out another racing game, it will have to be something that isn't Mario Kart. I really don't see them releasing two Kart games for the same console when the existing one is new to most of the people who bought the Switch.

Sorry, but PS4 is king, and the angry comments will be coming from you.

nintendoeverything.com/square-enix-considering-the-secret-of-mana-remake-for-switch-aware-of-western-interest-in-seiken-densetsu-collection/

>“To kind of give background in terms of when the project started, it was about two years ago, and the Switch hadn’t been announced. Once we had announced this particular remake title, we were very surprised to see the amount of demand and feedback we received for a potential Switch version.”

>“So, the voices are heard, we’re aware that people are desiring a Switch version, and we will make an effort to see what is feasible in the future, though nothing is confirmed or planned.”

Makes sense t&h. That remake looks like a cheap indie game, and those sell like whoa on switch

>When's Animal Crossing?
>When's Pokemon?
>When's Smash Bros?
>When's Metroid Prime 4?
>When's Bayonetta 1/2 and Bayonetta 3?
Those are all 2019/2020 releases

Perfect time to do an F-Zero game. But that probably won't happen.

No need to be afraid. Nintendo went full brake and nothing good will be released the first half of the year.

Kirby has a pretty big fanbase.

>$300

If you want to bait, at least get the basics right

I mean that's actually a really good point about people playing it on 3DS. I wonder how much of that market overlaps with Switch owners. There's a lot of people buying the Switch that haven't played games in years.

Imagine being so fucking jaded you can't even think about the possibilities.

I have no fucking interest in Labo and I don't plan on buying it, but that doesn't mean I won't look at the cool homebrew kits or 3D-printed versions people make in the next few years and go "well isn't that cool".

A multiplat
Yaaaay~

Sorry, $299

You already know they'll ask you to buy everything again. No need to shit bricks. We know they're pricks.

They already confirmed that future Zelda games will be open world. Going off of this, it's basically a guarantee that the next Zelda will be the Majora's Mask to BOTW's Ocarina of Time. A new game made quickly on the same console as the last one, using the same engine, but trying new stuff to keep it interesting.

It'll be great to see it, who knows what they'll change. Maybe we'll get a more classic Zelda in an open world, with durability greatly improved/removed from the game and the world more "alive" and less open fields and destroyed stuff. They could even re-use the same map, and just make it not destroyed, replacing broken stuff with fixed stuff and filling the world with NPCs and such.

Just me or Nintendo should try new IPs? Splatoon was nice, ARMS was good but didn't set sail. What new IPs and horizons you guys would like to see? Could be rehashes like a "Animal Crossing: Pokemon edition". I think engaging multiplayer experiences like GTA online and MOBAs would sell like hot cakes.

there was a four year gap between skyward sword and tp

that's not close at all

There ya go buddy.

Tencent are already putting a LoL clone on the Switch at some point.

An open world pokemon, maybe even an MMO.

>What is there to look forward to now?
Literally every other series nintendo has
>We're not getting a NEW Zelda, Mario or Xenoblade.
What makes you say that? A new zelda is already confirmed to be in the works.
>ports from WiiU?
Yes
>Multiplats?
Yes
>I'm not very interested in labo but I fear it will sell insanely well and push Nintendo to focus on that instead of, you know...actual games.
This isn't Iwata nintendo. Plus, nintendo has specific divisions for games and things like this, as proven by the wiiu ports and actual games being dev'd at the same time

>thoughts?
Shit thread

I've already long since set up a raspberry pi and my R4 came in the mail just an hour or two ago. It fucking blows but I've already prepared myself for the worst.

I still have my old modded Wii in the bedroom, but I put my raspberry pi in the living room. I know it's not the thread for this, but fuck me I bought a NAS storage unit the other day and it's so fucking nice to have all my anime streamed out to my nice big TV instead of watching it on my monitor.
