>hurr jap games are so ridiculous with huge anime swords those would never work in real life
As technology advanced, swords got bigger and bigger. Just before swords went out of fashion because of guns in the 16th century, they were massive and bigger than a person (look up "montante"). If we were still using swords today, they would be Monster Hunter sized.
all swords are wonderful and should be represented in video games
Jeremiah Sanchez
yeah, he totally BTFO that armless puppet
Samuel Jones
Listen up faggot, just because large swords were used SPARINGLY throughout history does not mean they were preferred or even popular. They certainly weren't a result of increasing technology. Pretty much all of Europe the prefered single handed swords both before and after the introduction of firearms.
Luis Johnson
if that was a person the sword would just fly off his hand from sheer shock.
Kevin Bennett
i know this is bait but it does give me an excuse to post this cute little sword
>He thinks ceremonial swords were widely used in combat LMAO, people who do such things are literally legendary and it's often the case that their deeds are greatly exaggerated.
Nathan Peterson
Large as fuck swords would also be limited if every fight wasn't on a random field. We'll make shit more efficient in killing while being smaller. Laser katanas are the future of sword.
Hudson Nelson

Katanas were wielded by two hands. Full plate armor at its peak was designed to deflect slashing blows without encumbering its wearer. Katanas were useful to cut off peasant limbs, nothing more.

No one even used swords. It was all spears. IRL sword fighting is a snoozefest. The most efficient way to kill a man is the most boring.

>The most efficient way to kill a man is the most boring. Stabbing him in the back when he is not paying attention?
Reminder: Katanas aren't good for striking against other swords, training with the katana consists of mainly dodging the enemies attacks and using the long reach of the sword to cut at the weak points the opponents armor. Also the reason the metal was folded 100 times over was because the metal they had wasn't as strong on it's own.

Civilians may have owned such swords but cut & thrust swords like the schiavona were commonly used by militaries. Pic related is a civilian weapon.

hema is cool and all but there's no point in using a regular longsword when theyre all made of lightweight plastic.
conversely, no one but an actual brick shithouse of a man would be able to whip around a real steel zweihander like that.

The swords used in hema are generally of the same weight as the sword it is based on
Dylan Cook
not everyone is an 80 pound vegan soyboy like you
Christopher Allen
Depending on the place and time the fighting was done mostly by peasants (sengoku, some wars before XIV europe) with little to no instruction on how to fight. A spear is much easier to use en masse and needs no technique or education to be used effectively, contrary to a sword.
Christopher Reyes
they weight the same as real swords that's why they are so thick
Hudson Ross
This is actually pretty cool. At least he's trying to find ways to make big heavy swords usable and trying to develop techniques to use them different from these hema dudes who keep just repeating old stuff over and over without even adding anything to it.
Caleb Bell
>based Keep digging your own hole lol

A spear would do what you described much better.
Katanas were ceremonial swords and not for actual warfare. They were used for executions and exhibition.
Dylan Richardson
doubt that extra long sword includes the extra weight.
Bentley Cooper
what material wobbles around like a nerf sword but still weighs the same as steel?
just because the handle weighs 10 lbs doesn't make hema sword techniques 1:1 with real swords.
Jacob James
You know what I mean, the top edge of the sword was used primarily.
Benjamin Price
Here you go.
>Using the long reach of an incredibly average sized sword to cut fucking lamellar armor No. Even with relatively shitty Jap chainmail, no. Consider never posting again.
You should also consider never posting again.

The typical zweihander weights 2 to 4 kg max what are you on about Even a kid has the strenght to weild it
>typical >4 kg How heavy was the heaviest sword you've ever handled user?
Wyatt Ross
>conversely, no one but an actual brick shithouse of a man would be able to whip around a real steel zweihander like that. They're not as heavy as you think. My longsword is an unsharpened replica I use for training and it's only 1.6kg of weight.
Zweihander would weigh around 3-4kg for actual battle use and while you're gonna get tired of swinging real soon, it's not that difficult.
Hunter Jones
You're retarded, read my post again. You're not supposed to strike the armor, you look for points where there is no armor such as the wrist, neck, armpit, etc.
Tyler Lopez
if your sword doesn't weight at least 10kg it's worthless it's never gonna penetrate dragon skin

isn't it retarded on his side to back off against a long sword?
Sebastian Miller
>Just before swords went out of fashion because of guns in the 16th century
Thats not how it happened. Guns began to replace bowmen, but even then it took a while because for a while, Longbowmen could shoot more accurately and faster at distance. Swords were always in the minority anyway at least during the medeival period, Pikemen/spearmen were the most common infantry unit. You could make pikes purely out of wooden sticks, and arm barely trained peasants with them and they'd still be deadly to a cavalry charge,
Benjamin Wood
is he training for some kind of anime expo? Those stances are full retard
Nolan Edwards
What's the best length for a spear?
Owen Cook
Most of what he does in that particular video is pretty bad. The sword itself needs to be reworked to reduce the weight, and the dude needs to bulk up and get some strength through his entire body.
I'll admit though, the sword looks kind of neat.

you also have to consider the fact that swords were not the primary weapon in battle, sword was a secondary weapons, have fun trying to pierce a plate armor but hitting it with a blade.

i'm not retarded. of course steel isn't 100% rigid. but that guy did a two handed thrust directly into someone's chest and the blade instantly buckled. it's not even close to steel density.
