>Square Enix’s previous CEO, Yoichi Wada, was concerned regarding the state of the game in 2012 when the development wasn’t progressing as smoothly after 6 years in production. He called Tabata in 2012 and wanted to get his opinion on whether they should cancel it altogether and start from scratch. Tabata said that it was not possible for the development to carry on in the same way and this is where he was involved to make sure the project was eventually realized in the form of Final Fantasy XV.
>At the start, his development team wasn’t on-board with the idea of taking on the project of Tetsuya Nomura. 90% of the team was against the idea and it took some time to convince them. Tabata then started to look for ideas on how to rework it into a mainline game. The two core concepts that were planned was the idea of Comrades, and the idea of a Journey. Both of these were a strong part of the final game and helped elevate it to something special. >gearnuke.com/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-troubled-project-2012-square-enix-planned-cancel-tabata/
Considering the other news and articles over the years, it sounds like management that ultimately fucked over versus. First by stretching Nomura way to thin, and second by trying to bring someone in who wasn't really with the game from the beginning to piece everything together to release a game.
I think XV was flawed at release but I liked it, and I'm afraid to say it.
I'm bitter, but I'm starting to mellow out. When I get a PS4 I plan to FFXV for myself and form my own opinion.
James Parker
>Yoichi Wada Friendly reminder that it was HIS fault that FFXV turned into shit. Here's the timeline: 1. Development of FFXIV and XV(Versus) is going on at the same time. 2. Cataclysm release comes close and Wada decides that they want to compete with WoW and pushes FFXIV very early, it was laggy unpolished alpha with 0 content. Game fails horribly. 3. They are forced to apologize and rebuild XIV from the ground. They don't have enough manpower to do this. 4. 90% of Versus dev team is forced to work on XIV reboot. Versus is left with skeleton crew.
He killed 2 games at once. We could have FF11 HD instead of WoW:anime edition. FUN FACT: He also responsible for Nobuo Uematsu leaving the company. THIS FUCKING RETARD CONSULTED WITH A FORTUNE TELLER HOW SHOULD HE IMPROVE PROFITS AND SHE SAID THAT THEIR OFFICE IN A "BAD AREA". So he moved ENTIRE COMPANY to the other side of Japan. Nobuo is old as fuck and can't withstand spending half of the day traveling to work to the other side of the country so he quit.
Tyler Price

Liam Gutierrez
FFXV was a "good game", but the thing is, FFXIII Versus was looking to be a fucking god tier epic.
Michael Murphy
FUCK YOU WADA YOU STUPID FFFUUUCKING CUNT
that's well known, dude
Easton Hernandez
Why does nobody consider the possibility that Nomura mismanaged it?
Thomas Peterson

gamasutra.com/view/news/39374/This_week_in_Japanese_news_Square_Enix_to_Otome.php >"[Square Enix CEO and president Yoichi] Wada took a couple of locations to a fortune teller named Pao," said Uematsu. "Pao said the Meguro space was not going to bring any fortune to the company, and pointed to Shinjuku. That's why he decided to move it there. I heard this directly from Wada."
Jayden Young
I had never heard that. He's constantly getting pull to other games for various reasons. Seriously, look at all the times he gets pulled in to either direct something, help with development, or they want him for character design. The mismanagement of Versus was due in part to how much shit he was doing at the time. And it's why people are concerned for KH3 and VII Remake because he's directing both of those games at the same time.
Grayson Ross
So they were moving anyway and he let a fortune teller have input. That's retarded, but it's not as bad you made it sound.
Hudson Collins
...
Adrian Brooks
Because we know that wasn't the case.
Nicholas Russell
I'm not the same user as the OP, just providing the source. Didn't really move to the other side of Japan either, just the other side of Tokyo.
William Parker
You don't know shit.
Justin King
Yeah okay XV-kun.
Parker Flores
>xv-kun levels of autism
Juan Howard
Why the fuck did he go to Tabata? He's made shit. Is he really looked at so highly at Square? Does the CEO just really hate Noruma?
Carter Fisher
Make sure you pick up the Royal Edition.
Levi Cox
Because there has been many pieces of evidence showing that he is constantly made to clean up the companies shit instead of getting to do his own work.
Kevin Gutierrez
I hated it and thought it was awful and a disapointment The story is maybe the worst story ever in a triple A RPG The combat is simple and repetitive with the magic system being retarded The graphics are nice though
Jackson Davis
Whatever the reasoning, it still wasn't great. Lacked congruity, the combat was mediocre and bland, magic was awful and good fucking lord that ending segment. That shit can burn.
It had a nice looking world, getting bro-time was fun, most of the characters were interesting and the ending camping scene was kinda fucking perfect. Everything else just either meh or god awful.
Jackson Clark
>getting bro-time was fun stop, i hate seeing this faggy defence the characters were written awfully
Jason James
Tbh even tho the combat and pacing were ass, i really liked the main cast even though i went in expecting to hate them, the interactions and dialougue made them my favorite cast in all the FF's ive played so far.
Aiden Evans
What kills me is that they literally add in new dialogue in every patch. Hell even Pocket Edition has brand new dialogue added to scenes.
For some reason I really like being able to find that kind of stuff. For example there's new dialogue for the bros that implies that you may be able to drive the Regalia again after the time skip.
Justin Gray
i-i don't understand this, it hurts my head trying to understand how people liked there horrible characterisation and writing
it was worst anime of the season type writing
Aaron Collins
Ok user, you have to make a game. But the "universal" engine the company is making you use to develop the game isn't done. It's finally somewhat done two years after the game is first announced You do some pre-development in the mean time and are all set to work on the game. But wait, the other game announced, FFXIII, as the same time as yours (using the same engine too) is far behind schedule and needs help to get out the door. To even get this engine to work they had to start building it around FFXIII's needs. So half of your small team is taken from you and development is stalled. After almost two years the other game is complete and you can finally work on your game now. You start actually working on the game and even have your scenario done. But wait, it turns out that engine that your company developed is a flaming piece of garbage. It only works well for XIII and not much for anything else. Your team now has to customize the engine on the fly and keep developing the game and see what does and what doesn't work. Meanwhile the XIV fiasco happens. Wouldn't you know it, one of the main issues of the disaster was the game using the universal engine that the company made. The company is in deep shit and they admit that the development of AAA games like yours is going to be delayed. They have to fix XIV ASANow and they need all the manpower they can get. Your team isn't doing anything important right? Oh, and after all this the company is blaming you and is kicking you off your own game. They want you to now solely focus on developing a mainline KH. You reluctantly agree Oh but wait, nevermind, you're told your director of the companies "Get-out-of-Jail-Free" game. You now have to develop the two most anticipated AAA games in possibly the companies history. At the same time. Have fun
Liam Butler
I want to contribute but I haven't played the game. Waiting for that sweet PC release.
Would you guys think it was better to play a game at 2k and 60 FPS or 4k and 45 FPS?
John Scott
XV? 2K and 60fps.
Blake Foster
being nomura is suffering being a versus fan is suffering
Lucas Gray
i was lonely at the time and i self inserted, so im not really being objective i guess
Brayden Campbell
That's not why Nobuo quit. Nobuo is quoted as saying he thinks they should have stopped Final Fantasy after Sakaguchi left. Nobuo left for much better reasons.
Brayden Gutierrez
Not that user but some people are able to enjoy things as they are and some people are so invested because they appreciate a particular thing so much that they are unable to see past flaws anymore.
I don't read any books that aren't teaching me a skill so I probably wouldn't know a masterpiece of writing until I read one which allows me to enjoy a wide variety of things.
If it makes you feel any better, I really liked Planescape Torment and the Thousand Years of Dreams stories from Lost Odyssey.
Jace Evans
I mean, people like different things. Though Prompto could be extremely annoying at times.
Cameron Anderson
Yes XV. Should have said the game.
Thank you. I know it's no big deal but I was on the fence of which one to go with. Sometimes I swear I see more detail on the 4k despite a 1080p screen.
Tyler Wilson
>and helped elevate it to something special. citation needed

Ian Torres
>it sounds like management that ultimately fucked over versus We've know this since even before the game came out.
Blake Young
You say that, but there's have been many threads that try to put this squarely on Tabata or Nomura, when it was really out of their hands.
kek i have much more respect for the new ceo of square youtu.be/aoOI5R-6u8k?t=19 Under Yoichi Wada square faced a 150m+ loss for the last 3 years before he got fired.
Cooper Wright
That's just misinformed fools and retards to rile up people. It was always clear it was a management issue. Nomura wasn't given the proper resources (including work time) to shape his vision and Tabata even did a good job with what he was handled and told he had to ship it out asap. Something like this is ALWAYS the fault of management, no exceptions.
Jack Foster
How did someone so clueless to the business even make it to ceo and how wasn't he fired the moment he asked a fucking fortune teller for business advice? What fucking incompetence all around. I bet some people were pocketing large amounts too.
Matthew Williams
It's really funny how people think FF hasn't been shit since X-2
Dominic Long
>flawed at release It was and still isn't a finished game.
Austin Perry
Nomura needs to fuck off to his closet full of zippers and belts for a while.
John Reed
I said that because of the patches that have been released in the interim. At no point did I say that the game was the GOAT or that there still wasn't work to be done.
Christian Wright
The latest KH3 trailer really got my noggin joggin about what FFXV could have been. Unfinished story aside, the gameplay really was subpar, and I think it was hamstrung by half dicking both the RPG elements and action elements in order to appeal to """oldschool FF fans""" who Tabata thought were too retarded to play an action RPG.
Jason Richardson
Nomura-san had a hard life.
Liam Sullivan
There were absolutely problems introduced by Tabata, though. Making the game open-world when even his team thought it was a stupid, unworkable idea and simplifying the combat to satisfy his old man reflexes were not the management's fault.
Jayden Long
>most of the characters were interesting Literally no one but Ardyn. The rest of the cast was either severely underdeveloped and annoying (the main 4) or neglected altogether.
Fucking this. They're not even the best characters in their own series, and that says a lot when you consider FF's shitty writing record.
Zachary Green
Why couldnt they wait 1 year?
Lincoln Garcia
XV is an alright game but it’s definitely not Nomira’s grandiose original vision. This game was supposed to be his magnum opus.
Henry Howard
The part about moving is wrong. They moved to a different side of Shinjuku because they had so many fucking bad memories of his horrible management. They moved to get rid of the PTSD from his tyrannical reign, then he resigned. It was one of the decent things he did, acknowledging he fucked up.
Xavier Roberts
I mean it could be a little bit on his end, but he has admitted he doesn't like being a director. Now take into consideration there was a time when KHBBS, KH358/2, KHCoded, and FFvXIII were all in production. That's 4 games and guess who directed all of them. Then of course there is the issue of XIV bombing so hard SE had to redirect a fuckton of resources to salvage it.
Parker Evans
The new guy is definitely a lot better at making money. He’s probably the reason square at least became a mobile powerhouse.
Elijah Hall
>start playing FFXV >enjoying it >fuckload of DLC announced >decide to stop playing it until the final version is out >FFXV becomes a service instead of a game At this point I don't know if I'll ever get back to it. When the fuck is it gonna be finished?
Jose Flores
By the end of this year.
Charles Roberts
Jesus Christ I really hope that bit about the fortune teller is a joke.
Samuel Cook
When you stop having shit tastes.
Brandon Martinez
Tabata fucked up the most. The team begged him not to do open-world but he insisted anyways because "all western games do it". If you read any interview with him you'll see he's clueless and can barely keep track of his own lies. He had 4 whole years to make a decent game and failed every way possible.
Samuel Stewart
Forgot to add, FFXV writer is a literal who fujoshi not Jun Akiyama, ton of Ferrari artworks were scrapped and the composer never managed to create something as powerful as Omnis Lacrima under Tabata's direction. Every single aspect of game development was in some ways a failure.
Jonathan Harris
I liked XV too considering i have like 90 hours in it but the actual story was only a few hours long and thats the reason I play FF game so I was very disappointed
Samuel Martinez
With all of the shit that gets added monthly I have about 200 hours on XV.
Jeremiah Ward
Because everything that came after the base game was a reaction to what people wanted.
Juan Ross
I like how he was like "man, those Shinra guys in FFVII really knew how to manage shit, we should follow in there footsteps"
In before FFVII remake you play as Shinra and the Turks and Clouds group is the bad guys you have to take out for the sake of corporate honor.
Landon Richardson
XV is the first Final Fantasy game I dropped (though I didn't play the MMO games).
I got to the Titan fight, and I just thought to myself "This is a fucking mess. The combat is a mess, I have no idea why the fuck I'm doing this. This fight should feel epic and scary but I just feel like I'm wading through papier mache."
It came with my PS4, so it's not like I spent too much money on it (the PS4 also came with Uncharted 4), but god damn it is horrible, and I really tried to like it.
Jackson Peterson
Nobody asked for Comrades, the chocobo/AC festivals, or Episode Regis.
Anthony Turner
Tabata should have listened to the 90% of his team telling him it was a bad idea.
Nolan Cook
>>Square Enix’s previous CEO, Yoichi Wada, was concerned regarding the state of the game in 2012 when the development wasn’t progressing as smoothly after 6 years in production >after 6 years in production
finally, proof that this game was worked on for 10 years before XV was released
