Tyranny Didn't Sell: The Usual Obsidian Flop

rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/paradox-admit-tyranny-sold-below-expectations-dlc-still-in-the-works.115226/

>“Obsidian did a great job of capitalising on the timing of Kickstarter and the wave of nostalgia for these type of titles,” goes his hypothesis. “We've seen that most of the titles after Pillars of Eternity, if you look at Wasteland, Torment - they haven't been anywhere near that kind of success. So maybe it's that a lot of nostalgia fed into the initial bubble and that's why. These games have a market, but it's never gonna be that peak [again].”

>Wester shoulders the responsibility for Tyranny’s marketing, which ran with the slogan: 'Sometimes, evil wins.' It was an approach that wisely brought Tyranny’s twist on RPG morality to the fore - but didn’t touch so much on its singular world and cast.

UH OH, DIVINITY 2 PROVES THAT WRONG

Wow it's like Obsidiots don't want to admit that Obsidian creates generally unlikable and unsellable games

>B-BUT POE SOLD!

Only because of Baldur's Gate nostalgia

Did any Obsidian game ever do well? I can't think of a single game of theirs that wasn't a buggy piece of shit.

>generally unlikable and unsellable games
The quality of a game is irrelevant, what matters is advertisement. Just look at Kingdom Come, its an only above average game that sold really well. Also look at any EA and Ubisoft garbage too.

Only Fallout New Vegas, but they don't get royalties - yet Obsidiots still buy it in droves.

>play divinity
>half of the quests are broken and screw your whole game

>play pillars of eternity
>half of the quests are dialogue dumps and SJWism

>call your game Tranny
>wonder why it doesn't sell

>kiddinity fags literally shaking in terror because BASED sawyer is going to lynch every last larianigger in one month

say your prayers, larianiggers
you're fucking FINISHED on april 3rd

I-i-it's all the publisher's fault!

>Muh shitty nu-CRPG is better !!!

Kill yourself my friend

stay seething little kiddinity queer

Can no one make those games like better, im not asking to be full 3D and cinematics but there should be something along those lines where they could modernize, you cannot keep making them go full nostalgia in everything. Many liked the old ones due to their difficulty, system, writting or lore but I won't really miss the isometric, top down or 2D sprite...

>RTwP shit
>saving anything

Come back when you have a battle system that is actually fun.

Tyranny was godawful.

>literally everyone in the game so unlikable the game allows you to skip the faction system and kill all of them

Obsidian games are pretty shit taken on their own, nostalgia is the only thing they have going for them

>love old obsidian titles, even alpha protocol
>got poe
>it’s shit to the point I don’t even consider pirating tyranny

That bullshit doesn't even matter, horizon has a bit of that kinda pandering but it was a good game. poe, especially when compared to the games that brought about the nostalgia that funded it, is hot fucking garbage.

What other sjw shit was there other then this? And as I recall, they only asked the guy if he would change it, which he did and instead made it about someone getting killed over a joke or some shit.

the fuck is tyranny? They really need to work on their marketing

>look I posted it again
Fuck off retard.

They could, but they don't want to. They lack discipline.

I wish Japan understood WRPGs, because they could probably make something as good as Fallout 2 or BG2.

a top-down RPG where the ~bad guys~ won

>japan
>making a good rpg

>Tyranny didn't sell
Not surprising, the setting/writing didn't manage to achieve the Black Company-ripoff it tried to be, partly because they went full retard on gender roles yet still pretended it was a bronze age setting and partly because there wasn't much of interest when you went deep into it. (most NPCs being unlikeable assholes that'll snap at you for just about anything doesn't help)
The combat system was slightly better than previous attempts but marred by ultra-shit encounter design. (almost always the same fight with little variation)
In theory I was much more interested in Tyranny than PoE but in practice I didn't even bother finishing Tyranny whereas I only skipped the DLC expansions of PoE. (i'll go back and play them sometime later)

Crpg set in a world we're a evil overlord had won and you were one his lieutenant's agents called a fatebinder. Problem was you can't be that particularly evil throughout it, and it just felt like everything was half-assed. Think it was made by the b-team, and most obsidianfags will agree that it's shit.

PoE suffers from shit gameplay and having to read lots of the lore before you can appreciate the story.

come back when larian is a respected veteran developer in the industry like obsidian, fucknut

Literally no one has ever said "I play Obsidian games for the gameplay" besides you.

How many times are you going to post this same exact thread, OP? Saged.

CRPG where you are supposed to be evil but you never actually do anything really evil.

>Skipped the DLC expansions
Nigga the dlcs were the best part of pillars. And while out of the three companions it adds, two are trash tier and the other is elder god tier.

>can't finish a game
>literally need other devs to make a battle system for them because they can't make a decent one on their own
>even Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights fans trash talk Pillars combat

Honestly I felt I could do more evil shit in pillars then Tyranny.

larian doesn't even have fans you fucking retard

...

That's why i'll be going back eventually.
I played PoE before the DLC even came out.

>A game is only good with its DLC/expansion pack

I have some hopes for Cain's and Boyarsky's supar-sekkrit project.
But that's about it as far as Obsidian is concerned.

>I can't read

came here to shitpost this
nice work user

stay shook larianiggers

>>Nigga the dlcs were the best part of pillars.

You can't read what you wrote

Ah, okay. But honestly, the dlcs are far better, I wouldn't bother much with the other two companions. Both are fairly boring. Thankfully one only takes a about 10 minutes to finish her quest. The other is completely forgettable, which is ironic considering her whole quest is about forgetting shit.

I said they were the best part. Personally I enjoyed the base game but there dlcs are vastly superior.

I'm sorry but I played a shit game - I'm not gonna put in 30-40 hours to see maybe a good 1 hour DLC

I'm the guy who played the base game and I didn't say anything about it being shit.
Tyranny was arguably shit though.

OH NO NO NO NO

Obsidian is not Black Isle, and they have never come close to their level of quality.

Nu obsidian is garbage, all the talent left.
