The only good 3d sonic game is heroes tho sorry sperg
ryan was the best voice
The only thing the game has going for it is production values. That's all Sonic fans need I guess.
Admittedly the production values were so good that they tricked people into thinking boost gameplay has legs.
>That's all Sonic fans need I guess.
Most Sonic fans care more about the characters and stories than gameplay (I don't know why), so it makes sense that they would obsess over a game that features more style than substance.
>have the best sonic voice again
>Griffith
>best anything
There are people who really feel this way? Jesus.
i agree with everything youre saying except
>have boost gameplay this refined again
generations was a step up in every way, as the drift was more controlled and he did a cool spindash while doing it
Also you forgot
>have music this good
>have sonic team try to make a great game
>art direction
I don't understand how they didn't just continue with the art direction completely. The levels, the humans, the animals - it was all perfect.
Also miss the WOO HOO's
>Art direction
>atmosphere
Yes, fantastic. I think this is the ideal balance of lightness and seriousness. SA and SA2 aren't bad, but looking at them today it's a little too cheesy I guess.
>story
Kinda basic but it didn't bother me. Nothing will ever have the impact of SA2 on me, which I played as a kid.
>boost gameplay
Maybe. Most would say Generations refined it, but honestly it's kinda a toss-up. Generations has far fewer open-ended sections, such as the 15 FPS Adabat waters.
>voice
At this point, sure. I know people hated on Jason Griffith back in the day, but honestly it comes down to voice direction. If the direction is shit, the voices sound like shit (Sonic Heroes). If the direction is good, the voices sound good (Can't think of any Sonic games with good voice direction).
Didn't know my thread from last night would get popular enough for someone to repost it, but thanks I guess
Ryan was great too, but he almost sounds like SpongeBob when he does his Sonic voice nowadays. It's been a long time though so I can't blame him.
I think we can all agree that Griffith sucked at first. But I think he really improved in Unleashed and Black Knight, which is why he's my personal favorite.
just saw the cutscene of the opening for the goddamn wii, much better than forces running on pc
what happened to sonic mang
Then why does almost everyone agree that Forces sucked?
Why the fuck is he not doing the quicktime events and jumping over the boosts? Does he not want to have fun?
All these funny little insults that this guy makes and he doesn't even have anything to back it up. "It's just that bad hurr durrr"
Daily reminder that no game in existence, has ever been unfairly treated as Sonic Unleashed. 10 years ago, 10 fucking years, and look at the graphics and gameplay.

All because of the werehog, which if it was Knuckles, nobody, nobody would of complained. Yes, even with all the FPS issues. If it was Knuckles this would of went down as -the- Sonic game. Prepare yourself for the spoiler image.
How much was the werehog hated for this shit to rank lower then fucking 06? Did Twilight make people despise werehogs or some shit and wasn't this the same release as Unleashed? Dear fucking god.

FASTER.
>That image
Ok, I'm mad.
Colors was the only good 3D Sonic, suck my dick
IGN also did this, and it's the year I stopped giving a shit about individual website reviews.
This will never not make me mad
Werehog was just a poorly implemented idea. Tighten that gameplay up and it's great.
>1:20 when he starts running on water on Adabat Day
fucking gotta go fast
I have fucking ALWAYS loved Unleashed. Its my go to "Fuck you I liked it." Game. The intensity of the atmosphere of it is unmatched by any game in the sonic franchise, shit damn near any game in its generation.
The werehog wasn't even that fucking bad it was just hardcore sonic autists that ONLY wanted the boost gameplay griping about it. It served as a great buffer for the sonic levels just could have been better executed.
Unleashed's reception is one of the most tragic things to ever happen to this franchise. You can really tell Unleashed and Black Knight wanted to bring this new vision for Sonic, one with a light-hearted yet adventurous tone, similar to the early Adventure era but more well-thought out. This could be seen all throughout the stories, visuals and character design of these two games.
Imagine a world where Unleashed wasn't overly panned just because of a gimmick that really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Imagine a world where Colors was never made, so this vision would be allowed to thrive. But what did we get instead? BALDY MCNOSEHAIR, shitty kiddie stories written by two hacks that don't even know about Sonic, membah Green Hill and Chemical Plant?, Sonic now sounds 40 years old, retcons out the ass such as "the games take place on two worlds", I could be here all day.
Eight years later and I'm still mad. Even if the games themselves do get good again, (unlikely considering everyone behind Unleashed/Generations left and the interns behind Forces are probably all they have left) that new vision of Sonic will NEVER come back. It would take a miracle to do so.
At least Classicbros finally got what they wanted. I'm happy for them.
Based Unleashedposter is back. Haven't seen you in a while. Give this a read:
Fuck, Forces looks like a cheap fan mod in comparison
If you're talking about the opening cutscene, that's a pre-rendered FMV. Still the best Sonic opening in existence though.
If you're talking about the in-game cutscenes, those were recorded from the 360/PS3 version. Still, those real-time cutscenes look miles better than anything Forces had to offer. Unleashed HD in general still looks amazing to this day, which is really impressive for a game that was aiming for "realism" from nearly a decade ago.
unleashed is heavily underrated
if it didn't have werehog, people would've loved it as much as people loved generations
remove anything werehog-related about unleashed, stick to day-time stuff/levels only and it's honestly a really good game
the unleashed project mod for sonic generations is honestly my favorite modern sonic game, because it's pretty much what unleashed should've been in the first place
no classic sonic forced into crappy 3d physics, no werehog, no OC shit, no edgy storyline, just plain fucking good modern sonic boost gameplay. That's all this series fucking needs
Always lurking lad, always.
Reading with a heavy heart, and it just made me realise something from the picture I've posted in the spoiler.
Sonic Unleashed was the first game after the complete diaster which we know as Sonic 06. If, and this is a big if, Sonic didn't have the werehog, this would of been the way the series went, the director would of went down as the genius he is making the lightning engine purely for Sonic Unleashed which I cannot even express to you how insane it is. It may be the greatest lightning engine ever put in a video game, but its in a fucking Sonic game and nobody would believe it.
> you live enough to see Sonic Unleashed become a cult classic
weirdest timeline
I don't think Unleashed is a good game. But I do feel like the developers cared. Like there was actual effort put into it, even if it didn't amount to much.
And the soundtrack is stupid good
I just want a PC port so it can be played in 60 FPS.
So where is this faggot now?
Seriously they need to get some better level designers. That's all they need. Colors level designer isn't that great. Lost World could have been good if they had proper levels insead of whatever the hell they decided to do. Forces levels are a worse Colors and that's really saying something. Where did the guys who did Unleashed and Generations go? They know what good level design is.
He abandoned IGN for good
...Just need to vent my hate towards Forces, I've said this before and I will never not be completely BAFFLED, SALT, pure UNBRIDLED HATE towards this one artistic choice.
THE WHITE BLUR LINES WHEN SONIC BOOSTS IN FORCES. I..
WHAT. How? HOW DID ANYBODY, -ANYBODY- Look at that, and say "yes, do it"
This is an OFFICIAL, SONIC GAME, TRIPLE A. Fucking LOOK at it. Am I going insane? Does nobody realize just how bad those white blur lines are? You cannot see anything, it messes with ALL the colours, it-- there has never been a worse aristic choice in a video game. Find me a worse thing than that, the only thing I can think of is some of the red bloody screens in some of the cods, but that is just the worst possible thing I have ever seen.
Going at the speed of fucking sound WHILE not being able to see anything, FLAWLESS SEGA, FLAWLESS. I will never not hate that. The worst thing in the entire Sonic franchise. Those white blur lines make Sonic 06 look like the fucking davinci code of video games. FUCK.
i miss you ghost girl
>Unleashed
>Good level design
No. Generations was a vast improvement and that was still a bit lacking
Is sonic forces good or bad.
...
It's alright, but Gens is better.
Not even worth pirating.
I agree on the dressing surrounding the game being great. Beautiful game, great story, nice little hubs with NPCs that had tons of optional stuff to do. Griffith is also at his best here, and I prefer him in this to Roger Craig Smith. Also one of the best Sonic soundtracks out there.
However, that doesn't excuse the performance issues, the gate blocking sun and moon medals, the fact that Sonic finding said medals through exploration isn't encouraged by very slippery controls, instant death QTE's, and some actual Dimps level design in later stages, which is just talking about the daytime shit. Werehog is unrefined, the combat music is bad, it gives you a million combos that all amount to the same shit, and the platforming is stickier than it needs to be, it also dragged levels out far more than it should have. And the werehog legitimately did have potential when you look at it, it just needed more time in the oven.
I loved Unleashed when it came out, and I have a soft spot for it to this day, but what was brilliant about it was stuff that wasn't always tied to the game itself, and the good ideas in here were more often than not half baked, despite how much it clearly was a passion project.
Griffith was the best Shadow.
The 3D sections in Forces are literally just boost to win this time. Izuka even said this. So to make it look cool and fast they added it. I can't remember a single bit of 3D platforming in it.
It's a game that wants to be over as bad as I want it to be over.
It may be the most passionless Sonic game i've ever played.

Probably one of my favorite boss battle mukssic trac
>have this art direction again
That's good. I don't want NPCs like this again, ever.
Sonic Forces as a whole is the culmination of awful artistic choices and Sonic Team having the inability to learn or remember anything.
Remember when City was first shown off alongside Green Hill and some thought the story would be about multiple locations merging together because of how out-of-place the blocky Lost World mountains and trees looked next to the more realistic city?
Nope. It was always meant to look that way. What the fuck?
Professor Pickle looked okay at least
All that great music that you can't hear because the game is going WHOOSH 90% of the time.
Werehog wasn't a bad concept just poorly executed.
Shit taste. Even if you didn't like human characters, you have to admit it's still better than the alternative and actually fits with Eggman's goofy design.
Would it have been more accepted as an idea if it was called a Hedgewolf instead?
I don't think so.
Anyways, posting ghost girl

Why the fuck does the game straight up look next gen right there? Holy fuck.
I forgot how cute werehog sonic is

Best hub
It really proved how lazy Sonic Team has become. At least for stuff like Unleashed you can tell they cared and put a lot of effort. In Forces there is no passion at all. Maybe they just realized years later they can make mediocre shit and it'll sell well? Who knows.
Because Forces had neither?
>HYARGH

Redpill on Sonic and the Black Knight, Sup Forums
Better than pic related? Of course. I was just baiting anyway, Unleashed's NPCs were fine. I just find that humans in Sonic games always feel out of place to me, odd, and it doesn't help that they change their appearance for each game (not even mentioning how the world changes in each game and there's never a logical explanation).
I actually loved Unleashed... on Wii. Never got to play the PS3 version. Is it emulatable yet? Did I miss much by playing on Wii?
>low quality out of place humans
>art
>levels that are straight lines skinned for different locations
>atmosphere and scope
It's not a bad game, but it started the trend of shitty "innovations" and boostshit.
>You can really tell Unleashed and Black Knight wanted to bring this new vision for Sonic, one with a light-hearted yet adventurous tone, similar to the early Adventure era but more well-thought out. This could be seen all throughout the stories, visuals and character design of these two games.

This does upset me honestly more than it should. Black Knight especially did a good job of establishing what has always been SAID about Sonic but never really done in games, in that if it's a somewhat gray area decision that he fully believes in, he will go through with it.
Black Knight had that super chill out It Doesn't Matter remix too that I adore.
>have boost gameplay this refined again
Unleashed was good, but Colors and Generations are far better when it came to the boost mechanics. The drifting in Unleashed is really damn loose compared to the 2 titles I mentioned.
You know what? For once in my life, I actually feel for Sonic Team. Fuck it, ya know? Whats the point? Would YOU guys do the same? Why try? Why try for these people who just hate on your game? Why spend all of the hours perfecting Unleashed, making that cgi cutscene at the start, the lightning engine, taking time and effort for everything, actually putting pure passion into it, if this happens? Whats the point? You might aswell just go full fuck it mode and make a shit game like Forces with no soul, it'll do the exact same and even if people hate it, its free marketing and will only make all the youtubers/twichers do it for epic lulz. What the fuck do they care? As long as they get the cash.
Even though I'm ranting, I'm -pretty- sure Sonic Unleashed is one of the best selling Sonic games of all time, 3d anyway. I think.
>tfw unironically enjoyed Werehog levels because it astounds me that sonics intense speed was warped into his Weremuscles
>tfw loved doing tedious suplexes and banana slamming as werehog
According to some website, it sold a bit worse than Sonic CD
And for reference, CD sold...?
2.5 Million whereas unleashed sold 2.45 Million
March 16th is a Sonic Panel for SXSW and to reveal what is next for Sonic the Hedgehog. Lets see what shitshow Sega give us this time.
Please god if 3d is ruined just let Mania team do there thing.
HEY.
He actually went on to design the Luminous Engine.
He's now retired.
It'll be the rumored racing game, Sonic Mania+ DLC/physical release, some stuff on the IDW comic, Sonic Boom season 3, and some Q&A and meme shit with Aaron Webber and some of the voice actors.
Forces is less of a response to Unleashed's reception and more a response to Lost World's. They went for something new and it got shot down immediately. Fuck trying to break the mold and experiment to discover the perfect 3D Sonic formula, the fanbase clearly isn't interested, let's just throw out some low effort boostshit.
youtube.com
>When ST made Pixar nervous for a brief, brief moment with this top tier quality
Lost World had shaky execution which was the problem.
Oh, definitely. I'm still trying to figure out what they were trying to pull off with that bizarre kick move which you had to use on specific enemies for no logical reason. But either way, the game's reception made ST through up their hands and give up on creativity.
....I realize I'm talking about a magic hedgehog which wears gloves and giant red boots, talks, and runs at the speed of sound, but
Why can Sonic breath in space? I get it, really, but, delete this. So he can't breath in water but he can breath in space? triggered unironically.
>fell for the same shit twice
Yeah, Unleashed was unfairly shat on.
It's still fucking mediocre at best, and undeserving of this autistic worship.
>tfw only played the Wii version
Looks like I fucked up
The CG animated cutscenes are the most gorgeous thing in the game in my opinion
You didn't fuck up, the Wii game was supsriingly good, but you're missing out a fuck ton with the ps3/360 version. The entire game is different. See
C'mon SEGA. Give us a PC port of Unleashed.
This. Honest to god this. If you could mod the Werehog battle music out and polish up some of that framerate, some fans clean up the textures a little and you have the best Sonic PC game.
>the movie wont look like this
Don't lose hope just yet, it's being animated by the same people.
Unleashed had a great story and atmosphere, I wish Sonic Team would take notes for it in future games. I loved the world adventure aspect
Is the Wii version good or is the Xbox 360 and PS3 version better?
I think so too, he fit Shadow perfectly. Not a fan of his Sonic, I prefer Chris Redfield there.
Its not on the PC? Damn that game has been ported on the PS2, PS3, Wii, 360 and even the fucking Blackberry.
That holds little water seeing as the same statement can be said about generations/colors development. not that those are bad, just half the game their predecessor was.
n
Why do people say it was unfairly shat on when half the game was shit?
Sure it was pretty damn good outside of werehog, but that means half of the game was still shit. It was pretty mediocre, but not as bad as people say.
Werehog was not as bad as people made it out to be, it just overstayed its welcome if anything.
Unleashed's story was better than any of the Adventure games
It really is a shame, Unleashed feels like the last well budgeted Sonic game.
Color's success kinda fucked up the games moving forward leaning a lot more heavily on 2.5D and Kishimoto becoming the main director of the series for every game sans Generations.
No, it was pretty shit and had huge FPS issues
Well, the animation studio isn't Sonic Team. It's just somebody that Sonic Team hired on. They are unrelated and for some reason Sonic Team didn't bring them back on for the other Sonic games. They did animate the Colors Intro however, and they will do the CGI for the movie. So it will most likely look pretty good.
