Remake is worse than the original game

>Remake is worse than the original game

why does this always happen

Greed

*blocks your path*

Not a remake.

I HURT MYSELF TODAY

They almost never involve the original team

How would you define a remake then?

This wasn't a remake, it was a re-release with a mini-expantion bolted on.

Often its because it wasn't done by the original developers so the "vision" of what the game is and should be is not there. Its like changing the directer and writer of a movie mid production, you're going to end up with something totally different.

MGS: Twin Snakes

Oh come on user. Theif Gold is not a remake. Final Fantasy 3 on the on DS, Leisure Suite Larry VGA, those are remakes. Totally rebuilt the game from scratch. Its "remade"

Would you consider Halo 2 Anniversary to be a remake or simply a remaster?

Misunderstood the OP then, I figured he meant "re-release"

Its a unique situation, its both.

Remake
The game was built from the ground-up with brand new assets, cgi cutscenes, and extra story content all in a new engine

>remake improves on the game but not enough to warrant getting it when you already have the original regardless of how much you enjoyed it

Didn't Trent himself say that he liked the Cash version better

uh actually

I wouldn't say it's worse, just different. Like if Carpenter made a Kubrick film I wouldn't call it bad, just not the same. I enjoyed Twin Snakes but wouldn't recommend it for a first-time playthrough at all.

The only remake ever worth its salt was Tactics Ogre. It brought new content and fixed gameplay elements, all without ruining the original artstyle.
It’s also a great game by default that has theoretically aged fantastically considering the state of SRPGs at the time and right now, so it was definitely worthy of a remake.

There are actually a fair number of exceptions to that.

IMO this is different enough from the original that it almost starts to become an "apples and oranges" situation.
I love both the original and ZM for diffrent reasons.

AND YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL

Perhaps, but RE:Remake is the in the ~5% exception club that actually captures and GETS the original intent of the game and in the 1% that expands on top of that.
I would not say it's a fair amount, more like a uncommon occasion or even rarity. but RE:Remake definitely falls in that.

I WILL LET YOU DOWN

Zero Mission only shares part of the map design with the original. Both are pretty different from each other.

Remake ruins the atmosphere

In a very strict sense, where even Zero Mission doesn't really count, then yeah it's pretty rare.

Never played Twin Snakes but it looked pretty damn good.

It's less campy, but I'm not sure if the original game was meant to be as campy as it was.

I like both for different reasons.

MGS2 mechanics without re-balancing the game is not really good for a lot of people. Cutscenes are also over the top for a lot of people. Maybe some day a guy will fix the gameplay so it actually becomes REmake tier.

You're right. It's actually scary now.

Remaster. Added bonuses and blur cgi cutscenes =/= remake since it is in the games original engine and everything. Lucas adding cgi and making minor adjustments doesn't make a star wars remake. Now the multiplayer or halo 2 anniversary is a remake.
