Got this game a long time ago in a Humble Bundle and never played it. Thinking about giving it a go. What should I expect?

its pretty cool and makes you feel awesome.

A decent game that should'nt have DMC name on it.
Slash Slash
Bang Bang
Angst Angst
Its still a good game just not everyone wanted super edgy Dante. However the higher difficulty settings are garbage as it color codes enemies to only take damage to demon/angels weapons which absolutely shits on player choice with using what they want to use
Great gameplay, horrible plot and characters.
It's great, but American voice acting is cringy as fuck.
Laughable plot and characters on top of dumbed down gameplay mechanics.
Some set pieces were kinda nice.
Your choice...
DmC PROS
>probably the best Western hack and slash action game ever made
>nice art direction
>nice music
DmC CONS
>stole valuable dev resources from capcom
>not as good as the older games
>shit combat for a DmC game
>atrocious platforming and level design
>killed any chance for DMC5
>shit characters
>tameem
A solid overall title that viewed on its own would be pretty damn great, but it's lacking writingwise compared to the prior titles.
solid 6/10 action game with horrible writing
>B-but DmC has bad combat!
it's only this way because Capcom found out what a shitfest ninja theory was doing and sent some of their own to help out
if not for that DmC would have been unsalvagable
This might shock you but performing flashy yet pointless combos against enemies that don't fight back after the first hit does not equal good combat.
but that's every dmc ever
So you admit that DMC3 and 4 are actually shit and that 1 is the best one?
...
A pretty good game i really like it
>stole valuable dev resources from capcom
not to sound like a fanboy, but dmc4 still seems to look/feel better here
Anyone who's not underage knows 1 is the best DMC
I would go with the definitive edition on PS4/Xbone. It adds a bunch of fixes to the game (Lock-on system, better rank system, etc).

Of course, I don't think anyone could disagree with that.
It's because DMC4 does what most anime inspired games do, and just snaps to animation frames with a bit of smearing. DMC mocapped everything from the looks of it.
Why do people keep posting Vorgil gameplay as if it's better than Donte?
Vorgil has fucking godawful animation for, at least Donte has some decent swings behind his punches.
Can we talk about the shit sound design in DmC?
Ebony and Ivory feel like airsoft guns. Rebellion swings feel weightless. Slash noises are unsatisfying. The sound is just shit in general when it comes to DmC.
DMC3 was actually on the cutting edge of mocap work in video games. It's the reason why both Dante and Vergil are voiced by stuntmen. Also one of the first Japanese games acted in english from the start.
Of course there's animations that are done by hand, but most things were actually done for real.
FUCK YOU!!!

reboot done right. dmc fans sulked because that's what fans do when they see reboot, but truth is it was executed really well. maybe combat was dumbed down compared to dmc4, but now it's flashier and you can feel cool way easier
it's like persona 4 to persona 5
>Sup Forums circa 2018
>truth is it was executed really well
It really wasn't.
It's amazing how well DMC3's cutscenes hold up for a PS2 game. Game really was pretty groundbreaking.
DMC4SE Vergil was fun but I really hate his new teleport move. Makes playing him feel very trivial unlike Nero and Dante.
anyone has files for el donte mod?
>What should I expect?
AA really boring experience.
The gameplay is lame as hell
The story is edgy as fuck (big offenders are the Gunfire Abortion scene and then Donte calling the dead baby "Wet Chunks" to it's father because he could)
The music is wubstep as fuck
>using DLC and not the base game
All three games, DMC3, 4, and DmC, only did mocap for the cutscenes. The gameplay/combat animations were done by hand. There's some footage out there showing Reuben doing mocap for the Rainstorm attack and some other stuff, but those were for a cinematic commercial, not used in the actual in-game animations. The actual reason why DmC's animations look so bad in comparison is because Ninja Theory just has shitty animators who don't understand the basic principles of animation like anticipation, slow in/slow out, whatever you want to call it.
There's an interview screencap out there where Capcom tries to explain to NT why actions should have a dramatized startup and fast follow-through but I can't find it.
Mod to remove color-coded enemies on higher difficulties helps greatly. Game is pretty good but its soundtrack isn't memorable at all, cutscenes and story you probably already know about.
Vergil's Downfall is actually pretty decent and worth a playthrough despite obviously being made by a skeleton crew, and they couldn't reuse any music from the main game since none of it was made in-house. Vergin handles more like DMC3's Vergil than DMC4SE's Vergil does.
One playthrough. It's worth that.
looks cheap
you can leave and join combat at any time you want allowing you to avoid damage and keep combos going without any effort. No wonder its easy to get SSS
>you can leave and join combat at any time you want allowing you to avoid damage and keep combos going without any effort.
So just like its predecessors. SSS is piss-easy to get in combat because it rolls off of damage rather than how fresh the move is (there's some videos laying around showing players getting SSS in one or two cheesed moves because of the damage max-out) and piss-easy to get in stages because if you get all the collectibles you automatically get SSS.
>SSS is piss-easy to get in combat because it rolls off of damage rather than how fresh the move is (there's some videos laying around showing players getting SSS in one or two cheesed moves because of the damage max-out)
like this.
solid game
just don't expect deep combat like in 3 or 4
Oh, I see, demon dodge's buff + intensely hard-hitting demon weapons. That'd do it.
A sex scene
>what should I expect
No one wants to read an essay so I'll just give you bullets
>Pre-rendered cutscenes rendered at 24Hz because Tameem is a retard so they all have tearing
>Unlikable prick characters that just get worse and worse as the terrible story drags on
>Combat that is fundamentally broken due to the ridiculous power of the angel/devil bringers and the ten-year-long enemy step window (you can easily fly to the skybox and you're basically never in any danger on any difficulty)
>Combos that are much shorter and simpler because weapon swapping no longer cancels your string
>A lot of very janky platforming
If it weren't a DMC title it'd just be another crappy Ninja Theory game like Heavenly Sword, except this time Tameem decided he didn't need to hire any writers.
>probably the best Western hack and slash action game ever made
>nice art direction
>nice music
ERFF, UHFF, ERFF, ERFF, ERFF, UHHF, ERFF ERFF, ERFF, ERFF (RANDOM PHOTOS RATTLING ON WALLS)
This shit is fucking awful even in DmC:DE.
In Hardcore mode the Style Meter is basically impossible to build on a single enemy, since it builds so slowly and degenerates so fast; but if you're attacking several enemies at once it multiplies the style gained for each enemy hit individually. Completely ruins Must Style mode which is conceptually a great idea.
DMC4SE kind of has a similar problem with the new characters since they're so focused on attacking crowds of enemies all at once.
>its pretty cool and makes you feel like Tameem's narcissistic wet dream
