It's not.

Then how do they keep getting away with it?

Duke 3d had mirriors... in 1996.

bump

>games have become so taxing that that having an entirely separate world with high poly models just running in the background for some minimal immersion benefit isn't worth doing
wow! i for one cannot even fucking run doom 4 at 15 fps so im glad they at least tried to reduce the fluff

It is not.
There's quite literally not a sngle valid excuse.
None.

Attached: doom-mirror.jpg (620x332, 56K)

and yet it could be done with top of the line games back then, with computer power from 22 years ago

>Ion Maiden doesn't have working mirrors

>2016
umm sweetheart that's oldschool. Get with the times please

what is your point? duke nukem 3d wasn't even top of the line back then, quake was. its like saying just because minecraft has fully destructable worlds the latest battlefield should be able to handle it

>Quake
>not Descent

Full 3d in 1994, bitch

C'mon that's not a valid excuse.
Technology doesn't grow in a linear line. Neither of us are developers so unless you actually read up why mirrors are difficult in modern games you're not gonna learn anything here.

>no shadows
>all corridors

please see this, faggots :^)

someone have the mafia 3 one?

The reason you don't have mirrors in modern games today is because they don't even design the model of the character. Since you are only seeing it from first person, there is no reason to create a full scaled model of a character, you just need to design the guns and hands.

here's a reason why you couldn't use third person in mirrors edge. They don't even animate the model properly and its low res textured model

God, Quake was beautiful, wasn't it?

half life 2 looked better and also couldn't afford mirrors. the real problem is doom 4 decided to add mirrors despite them not being functional

the absolute state of modern 'game developers'

You just ignored the fact that doom 3, a truly top end game for the time, handled mirrors flawlessly.

doom 4 has multiplayer models, thats probably not true

its a corridor shooter with loading screens every ten steps, it proves nothing at all

>Only 4 degrees of freedom
Call me when you can play a quake level upside down

>Call me when you can play a quake level upside down
>being so autistic this is actually part of the criteria you use to judge a game as 'good'

where is your god now

>He hasn't experienced the orgasmic freedom that comes with 6 degrees of movement
Oh fuck it's literally descent now

funny how that even with 6 degrees of freedom you tend to gravitate toward the plane which 'looks' right

My PC gets well over 100 fps I doubt them adding mirros would ruin the experience.

it would be worth mentioning if it were an outlier, but show us a contemporary game that has working mirrors.

What methods for making mirrors work in vidya are there, Sup Forums?

>developers don't waste time and resources on something players will never see in a first person game
What a bunch of talentless hacks rite xD?

see

>fighting those leaping things with 6dof
They're nasty enough without them coming from every possible angle.

what game?

>Doom 3, a game released in fucking 2004
>contemporary

doom 3 is only comparable to other corridor shooters like the new alien vs predator

>contemporary

>thinking gaming graphics has improved since Crysis in 2007

It's acceptable in a game like DOOM because it's not the kind of game where you take your time to look at every detail in the environment, you shoot things and you move to the next area.
Also it would make the game run worse for a stupid reason. I didn't even notice there were mirrors somewhere.

Doom 3 isn't the same thing, it was a slow and boring corridor shooter with small areas and they tried to make it scary and atmospheric, you were supposed to take your time looking at things.

Hitman 2016 has working mirrors so they still can do it when the game needs them.

>thinking graphics actually matter
ISHYGDDT

>its not a game where you look at every detail in the environment
but then how do i check for secrets???
checkmate atheist

Because they gave a cameo to sam hyde and he shared his tricks

This is what mirrors look like in Forza Horizon 3.
With everything maxed out and motion blur turned off.

>implying they don't

Attached: 1252484227959.png (184x211, 4K)

Do you think that was in reference to Sam Hyde? I thought the same, but... Hayden...

yeah but racing games kind of require mirrors otherwise the player will just crash into people approaching from behind.

>DUDE THE TESSELATION ON THIS DICK MAKES IT LOOK SO SMOOTH BRO!!

>being this triggered

you're missing the point

This
Looks worse than a 360 game.

Racing game or not, it can be done. It just depends on the priorities of the devs.
If you don't max out the game, mirrors look like ass in Forza anyway.

>Looks worse than a 360 game.
The fuck kind of games did you play on Xbox 360? Because I had one and no game looked as good on it as anything on PC, like ever.

Because it's no longer about cool details in games, it's all about how flashy and photorealistic the game has to look.

>600x338

>>thinking graphics actually matter
but they do, not as much as gameplay but they do

No real excuse. Areas with mirrors are usually confined too so no magic needed.

Original Deus Ex had working mirrors I think. Maybe FEAR did too?
